  • I just want to put my feelings here. None of my friends on social media or in real life want to hear this because I look more skinny than some of them do, or they're so skinny that they can't relate. I'm only 20 pounds overweight, but I feel so gross when I see myself in the mirror, because for most of my life I was at…
  • My only trouble with daily harvest is some of them are too low protein for me. I don't think that adding protein powder is a bad idea! I have them for lunch because breakfast is easy for me to do on my own.
  • It doesn't even work on the web on the desktop anymore. So annoying.
  • I find it useful to try a variety of teas, and adagio.com sells samples of most of their flavors. I suggest trying them out to start. I like strong flavors that aren't compatible with sugar, to keep me from adding sugar to it. The best teas for that for me are Genmaicha (Japanese tea with roasted rice in it, tastes like…
  • I'm having success with volume measurements. I will switch to a food scale if that stops working, but for me, for now, volume works. I do use weight for one thing: I look at the package of fresh meat from the butcher, and divide the ounces the butcher measured out by the number of things in it (pork chops, chicken thighs,…
  • I do find counting calories difficult, **socially**, since I live with someone with totally different caloric needs than me, who also relies on takeouot more than I. It's just annoying not being able to say "sure" when he says "let's just get some fast food for dinner, I'm tired, and I'm sure you don't want to bake…
  • Green tea isn't why I successfully lose when I lose. But it kind of is, because of my behavior pattern around it. Instead of getting up from my desk when I get bored to go get a bag of snacks or a sweetened coffee or a little piece of candy, I get up from my desk to get a lightly caffeinated, 0 calorie beverage whose taste…
  • I misunderstood you. You said I thought you meant it was much worse than a slip up. "A small cake" means "an entire cake", not a slice. I thought you were being melodramatic and being too harsh over really a very minor amount of food.

  • *Part* of a *slice* of a cake, good lord. I'm not saying it's a good food, but it's in a manageable amount that will easily be eclipsed by eating better the next day.

  • I agree with others who say to just eat a meal there and try to fit it into your plan. But I understand how annoying old-fashioned diners can be. It can be annoying, especially when they don't listen to you, like if you ask for something without home fries, for instance, and they still bring you this enormous pile of home…
  • It's fine. We all make mistakes sometimes. You do sound like you're developing an eating disorder if a small slip up like this is freaking you out.

  • If it's a restaurant salad, probably, yes. Or some restaurants have INCREDIBLY caloric toppings built into their salads - the pecan chicken salad at TGI Friday's comes to mind. Fried chicken coated in pecans and sugared pecans on top! Woof! Great meal, if you just ran a long race!

  • My problem with Larabars - although they are my favorite of the fast bars - is they're just too much sugar in one sitting. I started buying dried figs and eating just one at a time instead. Lots of fiber and potassium in them but less than a full Larabar.

  • If you have access to a fridge, I recommend getting some hummus and thin rice cakes to scoop it with (Lundberg Thin Stackers rice cakes are my favorite! Thicker rice cakes crumble too much.) I have some as a snack when I first get peckish around 10 AM and it can keep me satisfied until 1 or 2. It's the fiber and the fat in…

  • Wow! I didn't know this was a federal law. I live near NYC and I only knew about the local law that requires all large chain restaurants in the 5 boroughs to post their calorie counts next to the menu items. It looks like the FDA followed NY's idea at some point. Good idea, FDA! The more this is accessible, the easier it…
  • I mean, it's not magic. But I find that caffeine helps give me energy for after-work cardio. And tea doesn't keep me up the same way coffee I have after 4pm does.
  • Black tea tastes better than black coffee from most places. It's easier to prepare (pour hot water over tea, no filter or machine needed). It's more mellow and its lower caffeine amount can be taken later in the day. It's more hydrating per milligram of caffeine. It doesn't cause the GI issues that only medium amounts of…
  • English Muffin. 1. Peanut butter & banana 2. Just good quality butter 3. Cream cheese & lox 4. Cream cheese & a tiny bit of nutella
  • If it's hot/prepared foods, or fresh-baked goods (not pre-packaged), most homeless shelters aren't set up to take it/ redistribute it. There are really sad, strict laws against them doing that in many cities, too (health code violations.) Sometimes, the garbage is the only place it fits - it doesn't fit into your diet,…
  • A hepa certified air filter helped me when I was having trouble breathing in a possibly moldy basement apartment for a few months. Temporary fix, but fast. Good luck.
  • I enjoy green tea for the taste. I hope it's "antioxidants" are helping but I can't really measure thatthat. And the low caffeine means that I can frequently get up from my desk to refill it, which helps me have an excuse to move around at least an hour which you're supposed to do at a desk job. I fidget and get very…
  • Eat back your exercise calories. Or at least 50% - 75% of them. It will keep you from feeling tempted to binge as much, and it will still allow you to continue losing weight.
  • Hot weather makes me feel like it's "summer vacation" which means "summer treats" like ice cream and soda and hot dogs. I try to avoid that temptation! But on the weekends, sometimes I splurge.
  • The goth pants that I really miss wearing sometimes. They're so silly looking but I love wearing them to parties and concerts.
  • Guys, it sounds like the expectation is that the volunteers can take time to eat the food that they're preparing for the shelter guests. They probably have this rule/expectation so that the guests don't feel like they're being poisoned or being fed crappy food! It's unfortunate that the charity she's at is so food-based…
  • This, combined with the very aggressive 2 pound a week goal, makes me worry a bit. I think the 'bloated' feeling in your stomach might be psychological - basically, shame, making you feel physically unwell there. Tummies are very sensitive to emotions and can easily be mildly upset by them. (I get constipated when I get…
  • I wish my office building's stair cases were open! They are strictly for emergency only, they set off the alarms if you enter them from any floor. :( I'm on the 10th floor and would love to use the staircase a few times a day.
  • ...you've got my attention.
  • You're almost or are underweight. Your ideal weight is: 56.7kgs-76.3kgs according to a BMI calculator. There is nothing wrong with you eating maintenance right now. Nothing at all. And please eat back any exercise calories. Consider even eating for gain, a little bit, as you don't want to lose any more weight right now.
