  • Feel free to add me. I live in Akron and just started up again on MFP. I have about 100 pounds to lose so we can work on this looking journey together!
  • Thanks, my goal is 20lbs by 9/1. Baby steps.
  • I'm starting T25 on Monday 12/16. Looking for some motivating and encouraging friends. Feel free to add me.
  • Freud might have something to say about banana cravings.
  • The ads come from your search history and not from MFP. So if you goggled mcdonalds or even calories in fast food it might cause the ad to come up. Right now personally, I have an ad for replica star trek uniforms.
  • First of all, I think you look great, but the desire to lose weight is individual and as long as it is to a healthy weight, I say go for it! Secondly, how about finding an activity that may not seem like working out but it still burns calories such as kayaking, walking dogs at the local shelter, or playing tag with kids…
  • Be careful on the amount of sodium in the frozen foods. But they are good for a quick meal.
  • Yves soy crumbles are a great replacement for ground beef. I use it in sloppy joes, tacos, etc. It has low cal and very low fat and high protein. Tempeh is also very versatile and doesn't need prepped like tofu. Both are commonly located near the tofu in a refrigerated section of the store. Making your own black bean…
  • "You don't need to wait until New Year's to make a change; there is always a Monday"
  • So on a message board dedicated to us nerds, there is an ad for replica Star Trek uniforms. I love it! But sort of scary in an Orwellian sort of way.
  • Ha....just noticed how old the thread is!
  • The hardest ride for me to fit into when I was at my highest (5'1" 220 -- now 205) was millennium force but I was still able to fasten the strap with a little help from my significant other. This year I could fit into everything. The mine ride is notorious for not fitting people since it is so old (my 6'1, 230 has too long…
  • Am I a nerd if I have a Star Trek wallet and a new dna tattoo? And my pic has me kayaking in a batman shirt?
  • The objective is to eat to your goal (mine is 1400). Eating back exercise calories is controversial on this site. Personally I don't eat them back.
  • I would look up low cost clinics to go to. There are medication for high cholesterol that is as cheap as $4 a month. If your heart rate really is 220 after light exercise, you might not be able to afford to not go to the doctor. (i.e. dying due to a heart condition is more costly than a doctor visit)
  • Check your math...you will burn a little more than 250 cal in an hour. Otherwise, the more less-processed foods (fruits, veggies) you eat rather than processed foods such as white breads, the easier it MAY be to lose weight. The bottom line is when calories burn are more than calories consumed, you will lose weight.
  • Does cinnamon on french toast count? Can you share the resource about cinnamon? I would be interested in reading it.
  • Just being deployed does not mean you will lose weight. If you are deployed to a large base, the food options are pretty much the same. I was deployed to camp leatherneck in Afghanistan and unless you are very active, it was very possible to not lose weight being that much of the food was high calorie. Where are you at and…

  • Get out of the house. Take a walk/hike, go to movies (bring a small bag of grapes), go to a zoo, go to a museum....just get out of the house. I personally know that seroquel can cause crazy cravings but I deal with them by getting away from food. Hope your day gets better.
  • I am on seroquel which is similar to abilify. It also has caused me significant weight gain, but I also gained weight due to eating when depressed. I found that I really need my meds to be healthy, so I am now working on losing weight while on meds. I find the nighttime carb cravings the hardest to deal with. What I do is…
  • There is a couch-2-5k program for swimmers called zero to 1650 (a swimmer's mile). Here's the link. http://ruthkazez.com/SwimWorkouts/ZeroTo1mile.html
  • Thanks for all the advice.
  • I will try tying my shoes less tightly. I have to laugh because I didn't even think of that.
  • How often should I lift lower body? Is once a week ok because I don't like to lift and run on the same days. Right now my workout schedule is: Sunday- run, Monday- swim and lift upper body, Tues -- run, Wed-- swim and core strength, Thur--long run, Fri-swim and lift lower body, Sat -- off. Is the once a week lifting enough…
  • Yup...you've got. Despite not swimming in over 3 years, I was able to do it but was tired at the end. Glad to have some support.
  • It depends on what level you are starting at. If it seems way too easy and you are not having any discomfort, you probably could decrease the rest days. Later on, as the workouts get more demanding, you will probably want the off days. Also you could cross train of the off days like weights, swimming.
  • I am trying to learn to listen to my body's hunger signals, so if I have extra calories and I'm not hungry I won't eat. If I'm hungry, I'll eat.
  • Gazpacho! It is a cold soup made out of tomatoes and other fresh veggies. There are a lot of recipes out there. I would just google "gazpacho recipe" and you will get a lot of options.
  • Organic does not necessarily mean "healthy." I agree with eating real food not meal replacements. Also, it looks like you are always way below daily goal. Many people find it helpful to eat back some of the calories burned in exercise. Your body might be needing those calories. I know it is not what most people want to…
