  • Totally Subway. I also like Panera, because they have tons of options, all of their nutrition info, and it's high quality ingredients. Also, with Chipotle, if you choose wisely, you can definitely get filling, healthy food.
  • I agree with the interval training. I'd been running at just one pace for awhile when I started, and I do a cycle of either 4 minutes at 6.5mph, 3 minutes at 7.5mph, 1 minute at 8.5mph, and 1 minute at 9mph and repeat, OR 2 minutes at 6.5mph, 1 minute at 7.5mph ,1 minute at 8.5mph, and 1 minute at 9mph and repeat. You can…

  • Hey, I'm doing my first marathon at Grandma's, too! Woohoo!!!
  • For next time, buy a Cooking Light cookbook. Easiest meals you've ever made and almost always less than 300. My favorite right now is the 5 ingredients in 15 minutes book...so many good ones! Also, whenever I'm really low on calories, I pretty much get as many veggies as I can (peppers, tomatoes, and onions are my…
  • 100 calorie bags of popcorn, celery sticks that I dip in yummy salsa, Skinny Cows for my sweet tooth, 100 calorie bags of nuts (almonds are my favorite)...
  • Oh, I feel that way about cheat meals a lot. I always end up finding that if I decide I'm going to cheat, I go WAY overboard. And I my digestive system typically feels pretty off for several days afterward. For me, I pretty much make nothing off limits on any day, as long as I'm within my calories, so I that I don't feel…
  • I've been planning to try that this week, so I'm glad to know it works! Do you really not eat below 1200? I sort of figured that the goal was to even out for the week at whatever your weight-loss calories are, so that if I'm supposed to be consuming 1200/day, then I should still make it out with 1200 calories net/day for…
  • Some websites: http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/racelocation/1,7912,s6-239-283-284-0-0-0-0-MN,00.html http://www.runningintheusa.com/race/List.aspx?State=MN There's so many races! You should try Grandma's...tons of levels of races and a lot of fun!
  • I agree. For women, anything less than net 1200 cal/day puts your body into "starvation mode" and may actually inhibit your weight loss because your body will start to hold onto fat if it feels like it's not getting enough food coming in.
  • I totally agree! I've started looking at my favorite things to order at restaurants and figuring out how to make them lower-cal at home by using leaner and less proteins and loading up on veggies. With the right substitutions, I find I can make a way better turkey burger or quesadilla or whatever and slash the calories.…
  • Also agree with that response. I had a sportline for over a year, and while it works, it just isn't always accurate, reading too high, too low, or not at all. Polar HRMs are the most reliable and I have been so glad since I switched to a Polar HRM.
  • I agree with everyone. I've wanted my tummy to decrease for over a year, but just kind of have had to keep losing everywhere else. Just now, my tummy is starting to go down. So, the point is, you will eventually lose where you want to, but you'll just have to keep up to good choices that you've been making and use your…
  • I don't know that it necessarily makes a difference when you're working out, as much as whether you're working out. I like to do it in the morning, but I'm a morning person and NOT a night person AT ALL. If it's going to be too hard for you to work out in the morning, I'd say stick with what has been working for you. Also,…
  • Wendy, I love that you drank sparkling water in a wine glass. I've totally done the crystal light in a martini glass or wine glass. It doesn't replace the joy of alcohol, but at least you feel kind of fun doing it!
  • So far, so good on the new goal. No drinks for 4 days now, even after dinner out with my husband on Tuesday and our weekly Wednesday night with our couple friends with whom we usually drink 2+ bottles of wine in a night. The real test will be the weekend of tailgating on Friday and bonfiring on Saturday...could be tricky.…
  • Epic fail for me. New goal: two weeks completely alcohol free...here goes!
  • Good for you! I'm glad you've found something that you enjoy so much. Keep it up!
  • I LOVE this group...it's nice to know that I'm not the only one for whom alcohol is a major roadblock in weight loss. My goal is a bit different than others, and maybe it's a little weird, but since I typically only drink 1-2 drinks on weeknights, which are drinks I can afford calorie-wise, my goal is to only drink during…
  • I agree with everyone, though I also wonder if you have that much weight to lose. If you have less weight to lose, then you aren't going to lose it as quickly. As you get closer to your goal weight, your body will probably lose weight more and more slowly.
  • Jenks, anyone can do yoga!!! I mean that so seriously. A good yoga instructor will be sure to explain adaptations to every pose, so no matter where you're at, you can always find something that works (even if it's just child's pose, which is basically lying on the floor...not quite, but along those lines). Think about it…
  • Most yoga instructors will adapt all of the poses so that a person at any yoga level should be able to do some version of the pose. In addition, remember that you can always go into child's pose if you ever feel like something's too difficult (which is also something that yoga instructors should remind you of). So don't…
