  • I greet everyone. Anyone who doesn't respond in kind, I chase down and trip them.
  • I hate sleeping...I love getting up to go work out and get my day started 8)
  • Nothing lame about walking the race. You're doing more than the people who stayed in bed! I'm also against wearing the race shirt at race day but that's a personal thing...the real etiquette you need to follow as a walker is start in the back. If you turn around and there are people behind you before you start...you're too…
  • People hate to hear things that don't support what they want to do. People are ostensibly here to get healthier. If they don't like the advice that will help them get there then I lose interest in their 'journey' - short as it will be. This isn't a complicated thing we do...but the commitment is hard. Just believing…
  • Glad I'm not the only one. I can't really judge it by logging so I still weigh somewhat obsessively so I can catch any trends quickly. Of course since I'm also working out at the gym, I have no idea what that will do to my weight vs BF% so I'm all measuring other metrics. 8) And I'm glad I have a #1 fan...does it count if…
  • Age: 32/m (a/s/l...its AOL!) SW: 200 (6' 1") CW: 165 - 168 Start and end is a little tricky because I initially did this 5 1/2 years ago. I was 200lbs and started tracking my food (pre-MFP days 8) ) and was very successful with it. At the time my goal was 170 - 175 which I hit about 5 years ago. I kept that off until last…
  • Follow this training plan: http://www.runnersworld.com/fun/7-amazing-tricks-to-lose-belly-fat
  • Hah, you know I had thought she was talking about 30 miles in a week but I was pretty tired (and still am 8) ) and now realize she meant 30 minutes. And sure, 30 - 40 minutes isn't quite the same but when I started out running that amount for my first year, I didn't eat much or any more extra and the weight did melt off.…
  • Stamina for sure. Speed probably even without any speed work. And definitely weight loss. Jen, I don't know if you run, but at the mileage she's talking about is when it starts to become difficult to not lose weight. I run 30+ miles a week right now and I'm generally burning 1,000 extra calories or more on days I run. Just…
  • If you can avoid it long enough, not only will it get easier, but just the scent of that junk will probably make you sick. Baked pork chops sound delicious (just don't tell my rabbi! ;) )
  • When it comes to fitness, most people think that it's bad for you and somehow will hurt you. Most people are out of shape and overweight and have health problems because of it. Most people don't know much about most things and even less know anything about staying healthy. Don't listen to anyone...you can do anything you…
  • I bruised my ribs skiing in March. It still hurt to sit up when I did a triathlon a few weeks later. Weight loss is 90% diet...should take less time to eat less food.
  • Early to start judging but if you had a decent week where you expected to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs and then 'fell off the wagon' the first weekend, its pretty easy to undo anything you may have accomplished during the week. Doesn't mean you're not losing but 5 days on/2 days off, especially early on, is not going to help.
  • I was always a tall, lanky kid and pretty fit. I first went to the Air Force Academy when I graduated HS and though I didn't finish, when I left the Academy for regular university, I was as fit as I'd ever been and about 6' 1" and 160 - 165lbs. Three years at UF partying and acting like a computer science major, I…
  • Polar hrms are very accurate. Far more so than a simple formula. They've put years of medical research into their devices and use far more information on their high end hrms such as vo2. Gamin is also very accurate.
  • I probably do that 4 or 5 times a week. But I train for longer distance events such as Olympic tris, half marathon and up and go to the gym on top of that.
  • I'll sleep when I'm dead!
  • Try and get 1 or 2 open water swims in to see how it is. If its a big race you might have a big crowd when you hit the water and my advice would, unless you're just comfortable swimming in a crowd or a fast swimmer, hang back a bit. If you lose a 30 - 60 secs on the swim because you weren't in the thick of things, its not…
  • Which marathon you training for?
  • Switch things up. Run a different route. I would not stop running all together. If you're just not feeling the running spirit run shorter. Better to do a couple 3 mile runs than nothing at all! But the biggest thing I learned recently that has really kept me on track through the summer when the heat usually convinces me…
  • I can only have an affair with you if you're married! You don't happen to have a single twin sister who's Jewish do you?
  • I come bearing beer!
  • I didn't but to be fair I lost my glasses last month on a run... 8)
  • Kidding aside (man, I haven't had a poptart in probably 10 years but you've made me want one) I agree with this. Its all well and good to jump on the video and say its not detailed enough or its not that basic and if we're talking about overall long term fitness, maybe not. Even then if you follow what you said in the…
  • As long as you're getting your fiber its all good
  • You eat poptarts? You are going to die one day.
  • Don't worry, you can do both!
  • I endorse eating on vacation, especially long ones
  • And there is definitely something to be said for keeping to your routine as much as possible but race day does bring a few unique changes that are worth taking into consideration. I carry 20 - 40 oz of water with me when I train. I carry none when I race. I care less about all out performance on a standard long run. If you…
