I personally am in the daily group, I like to see the fluctuations base on diet and think it helps "smooth" things I know if I gained/lost 2-3 lbs over night, its mostly water/salt/carbs/hormones and it will come back off. I don't get discouraged by a high/low number because I expect certain fluctuations but if I see a…

I'm a health care worker so I get one every year to protect myself and my patients. The hospital sets up a day every year and everyone faces the "firing squad." Unfortunately this year they decided to do the flu shots at the "health fair" where they do out Insurance screening. While I'm not scared of needles (just don't…

Thanks, I will definitely put El Tour de Tucson on my ride list for next year. It looks exactly like the type of thing I'm interested in. I may sightsee on Sat and Sunday the do the canyon Monday. Even if I go Sunday I would assume (Perhaps wrongly) the crowds would be less than summer. It will depend on how much time I…

Thanks, I am not as interested in "distance" from the Grand Canyon as I am in time of year. I wouldnt mind driving to AZ on friday, riding Saturday then driving to flagstaff, I would atleast make a 4 day weekend out of the trip with a full day at the Grand Canyon. More interested in making sure the ride is in Apr/May or…

Thanks for the suggestions it seems like some states are easier to find listings for than others. Spatialized is there a website that lists Arizona rides, Ideally I am looking for a ride where I can easily tack on a trip to the Grand Canyon as part of the trip. (but at the same time is not too mountainous

Goals: 1. 3000+ miles, nearly double last years distance 2. Complete the full 100 miles at the Hotter'n Hell in August (did 75 last year and really struggled) 3. Start "quest" to ride an event in all 50 states (or atleast the lower 48), will obviously take several years to acomplish, hoping to knock out 3-4 within driving…

AAA coverage depends on the state, I contacted AAA texas a few months back specifically asking about a pick up (equivalent of a tow) and was told this service was not available in Texas, it is a state by state (club by club) service which is available in some areas and not in others. You may want to check with your…

So any suggestions about how to protect my ears from wind? The most common recommendation seems to be ear plugs but I don't want to be unable to hear. Unfortunately not riding when it's windy isn't an option. It's always windy.

I'm in, thanks for posting. I had never heard of it. Hopefully it will help me stay on track for the metric century I am training for in August

I actually found the hills I rode yesterday using the ride with GPS website to plan/modify my route. Unfortunately I live in a small town and the nearest overpass is 40 miles away. I have been working on keeping up my cadence but there have been some hills I shift into the lowest gear and still feel like I'm mashing the…

Veloman, I have been keeping an eye on craigslist for a new bike, I am extremely leery of buying a bike on ebay that I will not have a chance to testdrive prior to purchasing, unfortunately everything is more than I can afford right now. I have made the deal with myself that if I ride in the HHH in august I can have a new…

Part of my concern is how it will alter my reach to the handle bars, I know an extender will help raise the bars. Right now in its current configuration I have a very hard time reaching the hoods so I tend to ride the tops/flats of my handle bars. this works ok because I have interrupter levers on the bike but I am trying…

When I log my planks on MFP I use the number of seconds as number of reps, this lets me track/see my progress. A 15 sec plank is not the same as a 60-120 sec plank.

Get a tape measure and start doing measurements. It can take several weeks to more than a month before you start seeing the scale move down again, I think it took me two months but i was seeing inch-loss and clothes were fitting better. The scale was getting me down because it wasnt moving, I really needed the measurements…

Hi, I'm Morgan from Texas, Back in 2008 I started biking to work and for exercise, I eventually worked up to about 14 miles before life happened and I pretty much stopped riding. Just started back about 2 weeks ago, my longest ride to date was 4 miles fairly flat and little wind. Today with wind and hills I only managed…

I add peanut flour to my oatmeal for extra protein. I use protein plus peanut flour that i order from amazon. 55 calories for 2 tbsp &8g protein (make sure to weigh because it clumps and measuring is inconsistent). maybe not as high protein as some others but the only thing i have found that doesnt taste horrible.

Not on a regular basis, but yes tonight dinner is 1/2 a macaroni grill chocolate cake with ganace and whipped cream and a glass of milk (gotta get the protein in there :)). 720 calories.

I don usually calorie count when I am on vacation, because most of the time I am not the one cooking or the restaurants we are eating at dont have nutrition informaton. Fortunately I have never done this (YET). You can try the rice and Ziploc bag trick that works for cell phones. If its a zip take out the battery then put it in a Ziploc bag with some rice ( I think white works best if you have it) then let it sit for several days/a week. Some times it works sometimes it doesn't but its…

The Fitbit will log steps on a very bumpy road/plane/train, HOWEVER you can log in to the fitbit website and tell it that you were driving say between 2:30 and 5:00 and it will remove the steps from your count, they will still show up on the fitbit, but your official total on the website/app will be corrected to remove…

The gym is probably more expensive because it is in a small town. I live in a small town and $40/month is the individual price at the gym/fitness center here. While it is a lot of money, it is less money than someone would spend in gas to drive 1 hr to the closest big town with a gym. It offers weight machines, cardio…

I am very much a beginner and I typically go with full body 2-3x/week depending on soreness. If my arms/legs are really sore I may give them a pass that day and just work the other so I am still strength training every other day but not over doing it. For example Thursday I did whole body but yesterday and today my…
