  • Hi Shionas I'm Elaine from the Uk. I've not been on here for a while hence how late this post is! All the best with your quest to be healthier and fitter. We certainly share that goal! Feel free to add me as a friend if you wish.
  • You look so much better, definately more defined! Well done you!
  • It's no fun trying to run on packed ice in the winter which is what I'm faced with sometimes but as the above poster said, the indoor equipment best for you is the the one you will use. Why not try your local gym and see which you enjoy using the most before purchasing your own. Personally I can't stand either so I put a…
  • I've been a lot better since cutting cereals out of my breakfast and putting more protein in. My breakfast now consists of either porridge (oatmeal) with berries and a boiled egg, or berries with a greek yoghurt followed by a boiled egg. If I want a snack mid morning, a handful of cashew nuts usually suffice. My cravings…
  • Hi ladies Sorry I missed your posts earlier and welcome to our little group. I have to get on here as and when I can so my posts can be a bit sparodic. I'm Elaine for the UK and I'm 52. A couple of back issues, not a serious weight problem but I do have to keep it down because of the problem it causes my back! I love…
  • Well done you! You look good on it too! Congrats on the reduction of meds,
  • Would def recommend core exercises and you don't have to work in the gym to do them! I do all of my core work doing pilates exercises. Stretching hamstrings, hip flexors, adductors, abductors and glutes too!
  • Yes, I've lost 20lbs since I started running but I didn't do it through running on it's own. I do a bit of dance, cycling and toning exercises like pilates on a regular basis.and also watch what I eat. It's so easy to think that just because we run, we can ramp up the calories, not true. When I ran marathons I didn't lose…
  • Hi and I'm sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I too have back issues in the areas you mentioned. Mine is pretty stable at the moment thanks to a great Oesteopath I see once a quarter. The one thing that has stuck in my mind since I've been seeing him (3 years) is this quote: 'Mobility is your friend'! I've therefore…
  • Good point about Wimbledon! I had wondered why the strawberries were much dearer this week. I'm looking forward to the blackberries coming!
  • As this seems to be a private thing, it sounds like you don't want others to know what you are doing. Have you considered discussing it with other members of your family and trusted friends etc. When I was serious about giving up smoking, I told the world and it was great to receive so much encouragement and to feel that I…
  • Hi and welcome back. I like your logic with the mini goals, that's how I work it too! Feel free to add me as a friend.
  • I just go off at a nice easy pace to let my lungs and heart and body adjust to it and then just zone out! I sometimes think I'm in a big important race and I'm in front of some well know elite athlete. Or I can imagine I'm being watched by some hunky movie star guy! Sometimes music or listening to a talk on my MP3…
  • Hey, well done you. Don't it just want to make you want to shout and tell the world that yes we can all do this! Keep up the great work!
  • My best work is always done in the morning after stretching and before my back starts to compress too much. Fortunately I'm a morning person and love being out there before the rest of the world awakes!
  • Well done you, you're doing great. I'd like to share a few things with you which I hope will help. 1. Have you invested in a pair of proper running shoes from a shop that has done a gait analysis using a treadmill for you. Doing this helps reduce the chance of injury when you start pushing the pace and distance. 2. Are you…
  • Same bike as you've always used? I've had it when out on the road on a different route where the road surface is a little rough.
  • I take my hat off to you as you are doing so well. Just a thought. Are you doing the same kind of exercise week in, week out? I've been running for years and have maintained a certain weight. However, from time to time I get injured and have to change my fitness routine. When I get back to running again it's like boom, I…
  • Hey girl look at you! Great effort, well done!
  • Vacations can be challenging for the diet but hey we need the break! I know what you mean about losing weight when away on holiday. Mind you, I've only managed it once!
  • Thanks. I'm hoping that my last 3 weeks on MFP will have got me into the habit of applying some restraint on the food, but I'm not putting money on it, ha, ha! Whatever happens, I will definately be back on the horse when it's over!
  • I'm ticking along nicely and am well within my calorie goals at the moment, however, my sciatica is a little playful at the moment which proves challenging at times. 4 more sleeps before my cruise. The food will be free and will be available 20 hours every day which is going to be a real test for a foody like me! Thank…
  • Have you tried mixing up your food choices and exercise. It's surprising how the body can get used to either the same old foods or same exercises. When I was injured, i swapped running for water aerobics, boy did I ache the next day and lost weight! My body wasn't used to this type of effort and responded accordingly!
  • It sounds to me like you are making progress by having more muscle definition. I run 6 days a week, dance twice a week, walk copious miles a week and sometimes put weight on! But, my body is leaner, I'm fitter and my clothes fit ok. The reason I'm on here is because I can be a greedy so and so with my food and the diary…
  • I wish I'd have been at that 5K event you did, I would have been cheering you on! That is a major achievement well done. It's easy to fall out with ourselves, particularly us women and hormones don't always help either. You're in good company here and we have all embarked on this great health and wellbeing journey. Feel…
  • The scales try and rule our world don't they? Don't let them. I go with measurements, how my clothes fit and how do I feel in myself. I can put on weight and my jeans still feel great. I do a lot of exercise so I put it down to body tone. A mass of muscle weighing more than the same mass of fat etc. If you're exercising…
  • Ah, bless you! I live too far away to run with you but you have my support on here if you want to add me as a friend. I started running when I was 43. I have 3 marathons and numerous half marathons plus other race distances under my belt and love running! I'm sure there will be others on here that can help you. I don't…
  • Shouldn't make too much of a difference as a 'one off' however, I would workout more during the day which would make me feel better about it!
  • Good for you! I too fast but only for 2 meals at a time. For example today I skipped dinner and will not eat again until lunch time tomorrow . I only do it once a month so it's hardly going to make a difference other than how I feel spiritually and of course it gives my digestive system a bit of a break! There are many…
