  • I try to eat clean - don't always accomplish it - but I try. I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure - so I try to follow a low sodium diet. One of my high bp meds is a diuretic, so that helps to keep me from retaining fluid. The BP is alot better - thanks mostly to 30-45 minutes of walking everyday outdoors - rain…
  • This advice isn't medically proven, so take it for what it's worth, but my Dad, a lifelong diabetic, was struggling with RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) and because of his many medical conditions, he couldn't tolerate the medicine prescribed by his Dr. to help calm his legs. So his Dr. suggested drinking 2 or 3 ounces of sweet…
  • Even tho' I don't always "feel" like exercising during that T.O.M. - I force myself to, because it usually makes me feel better afterward. Exercise also helps to keep a person from retaining as much fluid. And YES, drinking alot of water helps, because it helps flush out that retained fluid. Also, exercise releases…
  • OMG - I am astounded to find out the thyroid could be connected to vertigo issues!!!! My Mom suffers terribly from bouts of vertigo and the inner ear ringing stuff and she has been diagnosed with hypo. Now it makes sense. I occasionally get the migraines - but always attributed it to T.O.M. (woman's time of month) Now I…
  • It's ok to vent :) That's what this support group is for! Sorry you're feeling yuck! ((HUGS)) Been there & done that. My advice is to become really educated about hypothyroidism - I've discovered you have to be a strong advocate for yourself and not let Drs. dismiss your symptoms as other "women's issues", such as…
  • This was great info - thanks for taking time to share!!! I leaned alot and I'm grateful :)
  • I can totally relate to the part of your post about becoming an emotional basket case - my Dr. even wanted to put me on medicine for depression - I said NO - I'll find a way to deal with this, without taking another danged pill. Seems like the minute I turned 44, I started having all these medical problems - and I just…
  • There is also a hypo and hyper thyroid group here at MFP. Check it out for some great info. Might answer some of your questions and give you some support!!
  • Notice he said "mankind"!! What about "womankind"?? LOL
  • I like the idea of adding ranch or dill seasoning to greek yogurt for a lettuce dressing!! A great way to get in some dairy during the day. Have to try that!
  • I'm glad it isn't your thyroid - not a fun problem to have :( I'd guess your being cold is most likely from having lost weight - less "insulation" :)
  • I am SO glad I found this post - I never realized my cold hands and feet were a symptom of being hypo......explains alot!! I was having serious worries that cold fingers & toes were a sign of diabetes - however I have my blood sugar checked regularly and I'm normal there. What a load off my mind!! Whew.......
  • Quote from a previous poster :) "It does have to be prescribed by your Dr. Sythroid is T4 thyroid hormone, but your body needs T3. Most drs only prescribe synthroid, but that is not enough. Here is a great explaination of T3 and what it does. http://www.endocrineweb.com/conditions/thyroid/how-your-thyroid-works" end quote…
  • Thank You for the book suggestions!!!
  • Yogurt helps me - I eat it at least 2-3 times a day.
  • The only suggestion I have is to add "Sodium" as a trackable column in your diary. You've got some high sodium foods in your diary and even if you do NOT have a heart condition or issues with fluid retention, a lower sodium diet helps to keep you from having execess water weight, which shows up on the scale!! Drinking lots…
  • I noticed you had a Fiber One bar listed - I didn't see alot of them in your diary - but those ALWAYS give me gas. Could also be the cheese & eggs?? Maybe before bedtime, take an OTC pill for gas relief - so you won't have any embarrassing moments in the mornings?? Just a suggestion :)
  • Thank You to everyone for all the great discussion!! I definitely will make an appt ASAP and seriously discuss my thoughts with my Doctor. So far I've liked her just fine - but I have no qualms about getting a second opinion if necessary. I've waited too long already with NOT feeling as good as I could be feeling - I'm NOT…
  • I just know what she told me - that it would take 6 months to see if the dosage she put me on was strong enough?? I'm at the 25mcg dosage right now. I personally think it's not strong enough, because I haven't felt any different - not like I expected to anyway. I assumed it would be a noticable difference. Maybe I should…
  • I like to walk outdoors for exercise - I use the time to converse with God - sorta like a walking partner :) Sometimes I talk to my Dad who is now in Heaven as well. I've always liked journaling on paper, putting down thoughts and feelings. Now I just do it mentally and sometimes even audibly :) Sometimes I just let my…
  • I like what you said about being your own advocate!! When my former Dr. diagnosed me with High Blood Pressure a few years ago, he tried several type of medicine on me - none of which worked and I was getting frustrated. So I started researching HBP myself on Webmd.com - found out lots that my Dr. wasn't telling me. (And…
  • I'm hypo - been diagnosed for approx. 3 months. Currently I'm on Levothyroxine - a low dosage and I really don't feel much different or that it's helping - although I didn't know there was anything medically wrong with me before, so I don't have anything to compare to. I just thought my tiredness & fatigue was from being…
  • Start with small goals - get a notepad and jot down things you want to change about yourself or things that you're happy about and want to continue with. Work on one or two short term goals and have some long term goals to shoot for. Google some motivational quotes you like and make little sticky notes to post in places…
  • Have you had your blood pressure tested lately?? Too high or too low can make one dizzy. If you don't want to spend money on a Dr. visit - go to WalMart or your Pharmacy and have them test your blood pressure. Another thought is a sinus problem?? Experiencing a head cold?? Whatever it is, I hope you figure it out - ((HUGS))
  • I second the opinion about researching foods that do NOT contribute to Gall Bladder attacks. I've had to have mine removed - but remember that I would get into trouble eating greasy fried foods, foods with cinnamon and spicy foods, like BBQ sauce & salsas, etc.... Since having it removed - I still avoid bbq sauce -…
  • Funny, how I just started to drink MORE coffee, in an effort to NOT drink as much Diet Pepsi. I only drink 1-3 cups a day, so I guess I'm not a "java junkie" yet. I do have to put a tsp of creamer in it - but can do without extra sweetener. At least it isn't as much sodium as was in my 20oz bottle of Dt. Pepsi
  • Wishing you good luck - YOU CAN DO IT :) ((HUGS))
