  • I eat the apple. Don't overthink it. Log it as an apple. Nobody is overweight from eating too much produce. Spend your energy getting a handle on calorie dense foods by weighing and measuring - those are the foods that add up if we are inaccurate in portion sizes. Example: weigh out a portion of cooked pasta. Most folks…
  • Just read your profile ... "higher market value". ROFL! You may indeed be Sassy. I also read this and laughed equally as hard, but for a different reason: " ................ That's a lean mass of 115-119lbs. I know that's as much as many of you weigh total, but I carry a lot of muscle and consequently, a lot of weight! "…
  • Age 51. Lift heavy; cardio is Muay Thai boxing and cardio intervals mixed in with my strength training. 3 x per week. DONE. Train Hard then Go Home. Resting heart rate 48. Body fat down, lean body mass up. Functional strength & independence to the grave is my mantra. I write my own programs now, but I dearly love Frank…
  • Dressing. It is the dressings that up the calorie count on salads. Stick to mostly vegetables, some lean protein and some reasonable amount of dressing or use cottage cheese as a dressing. I've done that for years. Dressing + protein = WIN. Watch the toppings and you are good to go. So many folks think .. "oh, it's a…
  • Please don't go the " eating less" route. It is the knee jerk reaction since that is how we are "taught" to think. Your energy balance can certainly be out of whack. From your description, you are very active. I'm betting your TDEE is over 2000 per day. Strength training with that running is tough to get the energy balance…
  • 80 lbs lost. WHY limit fruit? Fiber, nutrients = GOOD STUFF. Nobody is\has been obese from eating too much produce. Pretty damn sure.
  • 80 lbs down. Slimmer and sleeker than I've EVER been. Oh yea - almost 52. STRENGTH TRAINING. STRENGTH TRAINING. STRENGTH TRAINING. Developing and maintaining your lean body mass is what kicks FAT to the curb. What solidified my decision to start strength training for the first time ever @ age 47? Staci's story @…
  • Highly recommend Nia Shanks - .com Also HIGHLY recommend reading Staci's story at NerdFitness.com
  • NO. sounds like you need to find a new trainer. Really poor advice and attitude. Strength training & resisted cardio intervals can and will get you great cardio fitness, functional strength, body composition. Walking is a great overall exercise. I've not run a single mile, nor have I jumped, lunged or explosively hurled…
  • Why go lower ( a higher deficit) if you don't need to. The goal is to lose fat while eating as much as you can. Start with a more modest reduction and tweak from there. Good luck! Be sure to check out the EM2WL website for lots more info.
  • I've pondered the opportunities by pondering when do I sit the most. Hands-down it's when I'm working at my desk which involves being @ the computer and on the phone @ my computer. THAT is what I will tackle: on the phone @ the computer. That is what gets me feeling the most sedentary & sluggish. I've created a habit of…
  • 4 years ago I weighed 236 - I'm now much less Fat and have higher lean body mass. and ! I weigh less. im in year 3 of maintaining that loss and am continuing to improve my body composition (less fat & more fat-free mass). I call that SLEEKER. The key is to create new habits that support the health & fitness that you want…
  • It means you've lost FAT! That is what we are after so WIN!!! Smaller, leaner, stronger. keep up the great work.
  • Biggest reason? Men have more muscle, in general, than women. Women have higher body fat in general. Biology. Women need to strength train to develop their muscle / LBM. No matter your reality - losing fat is tough action and its a process.
  • My "reward" is a healthier and sleeker me - for LIFE! Losing weight is only phase 1 - phase 2 is lifetime weight maintenance. But yes ... I think the idea of a tattoo is pretty groovy.
  • Ok. Serious answer to OP. OP im going to go with you are truly seeking knowledge & I will acknowledge that I've been snowed in for a week & this was my wee bit of entertainment. I'm a true sarcat, but here is some serious: It is a fatty area. There isn't anything specific to exercise. If you have higher bodyfat ( I believe…
  • Sarcasm?? my peeps would prob just call it smart assery
  • I've found that the combo of steel gray trash bags & neon green tape works particularly well. I've tried the " I love Bacon" duct tape but it simply does not work as well.
  • REALLY? That won't work? Dangit!! Kicks rocks >>>>>
  • Hefty trash bag, duct tape, original Jane Fonda on VHS and drink more green tea.
  • Fat loss and lean body mass gains = WIN. 71 lbs down with heavy lifting. Course .. gotta have your food in alignment. I'm a HUGE advocate of strength training. So to answer your question: YES! Get After It !

  • Your body composition will make a huge impact on size. I started strength training 3 yrs ago & it is THE difference maker. I'm 5'4 , age 51. Size 8. Fitted yoga pants = M; semi-fitted S. Tops = M weight 165-170 ( haven't weighed since April - I'm smaller, but betting no significant weight change). Highest weight 3 yes ago:…
  • Greetings Mary! IVe been around for a while here @ MFP. have lost 70 lbs and YEP! am 51. I'm in Kentucky.
  • Cal needs are not so much based on height than weight and activity level. Bodyfat % is also a factor in energy needs. Do you happen to know your BF %? Your Bodyweight is lower so your cal needs are lower. I would suggest NOT eating @ a 20% cut. That is fairly aggressive and with your lower bodyweight - will actually be…
