This is why women's sizes should go off of the circumference of the waist or hips, like men's pants do.

    5'3" pear shaped
    10 years ago:
112 lbs, size 6 jeans, almost no muscle tone
    1 year ago:
155 lbs, size 15 jeans, very little muscle tone
    Now:
130 lbs, size 7 jeans, decent amount of muscle tone.

What might be more useful is the waist to hip ratio (WHR, a proven indicator of health and fertility). I'm a 0.7

Wow I don't know where some people on here buy their clothes. Vanity sizes are here. When I was in high school 30 years ago I weighed 117 and I wore a size 7.
I still can't get into anything smaller than a 14 in jeans right now and I weigh 156. In pants (maybe because they are not as stiff as jeans) I can get into a 12. I have a small frame and a fairly small waist - I'm a pear shape. I can fit a 12 over my hips in jeans but I can't button them, so I know it's not my hips and thighs.
Size is just a number and boy have they changed over the years.

yep, vanity sizing is dumb. i'm around 107 now at age 40. i was around the same weight in high school. back then i wore a size 6. now i'm a size 2. my guess is that i have more fat on my 40 year old body at this weight than i did at 18, so the size 6 might have even been an 8 back then in my current shape. based on more current sizes, i know my current size and my size at my highest weight. not sure about the in betweens though. it gets fuzzy.

    140 (highest weight) - 12, bordering on 14
    107ish - mostly size 2, sometimes 4

I'm 5'4" and an extreme pear shape. my sizes are not typical at all based on what i've seen.

Women's sizes do go off of waist measurements. I buy my jeans in 28 in. waist. They're mostly, unfortunately, the more expensive ones though. The highest is usually 32 in.

Your body composition will make a huge impact on size. I started strength training 3 yrs ago & it is THE difference maker. I'm 5'4 , age 51. Size 8. Fitted yoga pants = M; semi-fitted S. Tops = M weight 165-170 ( haven't weighed since April - I'm smaller, but betting no significant weight change).

Highest weight 3 yes ago: 236 - size 18 ( size XXL semi-fitted yoga pants)
    Lowest weight in adult memory : 135 ; size 10 Levi's

    Strength Training. Get'cha some!

    Height: 5'5" (165cm)
    150lbs = size 9-10 / Medium (T-shirt size) *my highest weight :D
    145-130lbs = size 7-8 / Medium
    130-122lbs = size 5-4 / Small
    122-114lbs = size 3-2 / X-small (changed from 32C to 30D)
    114-108lbs = size 2-0 / Xx-small (here right now BF%=18)

***I've got a pear shaped body so my thighs & butt will forever be bigger compared to the rest of me. ^_^

    I'm 5'4"

160 (my highest weight)- size 11 juniors
118 (my lowest, and people said I looked really frail and sickly)- size 0-2
I'm now around 140ish and I'm wearing a 3 (depending on the brand, material and cut)
Most of my shirts are small or medium ( I have a small chest and I'm guessing a medium build.) I don't look my weight so I'm guessing I carry it well, as to why I can wear a size 3. Most people in guessing my weight usually say I look about 110-120 max. And I'm not sure what kind of shape I have but I do have a decent sized booty and muscular legs.

seeing people who wear the same pants size at 195 lbs that I wore at 140 and at the same height is a little depressing.

I was never more than a size small in tops though.

I've always been very small on top, I'm currently wearing XS and S, I'm currently 54 kg, 156 cm tall. On the bottom I'm very snug 36(S) European, 38(M) is baggy on me.
When I was 60 kg 3 years ago I was wearing small/medium shirts. On the bottom I was European 38(M), and sometimes 40 (L).

TMI, bra shopping is a nightmare, I''m a 28D. But they never have my size so I have to buy bras that fit ill on me (32B the smallest back can find, and the cups kind of fit ...)

I'm 5'1 and at my highest weight of 178 was a size 18, my current weight of 110 I'm usually a 2 or a 0. I didn't keep track of sizes along the way.

    5'10"

    265-285 18, 1X
    250-265 16, XL
    240 ish- 250 14, L

At 238, 14's are falling off, but 12's can be a little tight at times. Still L in shirts.

I have also dropped from 40 H to 36 G, and have a feeling that I'll be going down to 34 band soon as all of my 2 month old bras are already loose on the tightest setting.

At the rate I am going, I would be surprised if I am not down to a size 8 pants, medium shirts by the time I reach 200 pounds.

July of 2014 I had gotten up to a little over 280 pounds, size 26-28 or so pants/dresses, 4x shirts. I am 5'4". I am now (so far) 225, size 16 dress, 16-17 size pants, large shirts...no x's!!!! I have a more active job, I eat much less (very long and hard struggle), and have quit sodas (and gained a big love of water). I wasn't this small in high school. About this weight, but not the size. Muscle weighs more than fat and I've had a good bit of muscle before, but it's finally beginning to show. Never give up. Even with kids, I have two about a year apart, and they "exercise" with me, mostly consisting of dancing, or running around with them outside. the smallest of changes can make the biggest of improvements. before you know it your lifestyle will be different and you will feel great!
