  • When I quit playing around and bought a kitchen scale, I was SHOCKED at how badly I was estimating my portion sizes. Even using measuring cups/spoons, I was WAY over on most things. 50 cals here, 75 there, negates your deficit pretty quickly. You don't have to go all OCD on it forever, if the thought freaks you out. If you…
  • BTDT= been there, done that.
  • Definitely see your doctor. I have suffered with hip pain for the last 5+ years, and here's what I know: There is a TON of structure, muscle, tendon, etc in and around the hip. Any of it can create pain, ranging from stinging/burning, to throbbing. Also, lower back/tailbone/pelvic/groin pain can radiate to the hip. My…
  • For myself, I found that my grip failed on things like step-ups and squats, when using dumbbells, long before my legs really felt challenged. Putting the barbell on my back, I only had to balance the weight rather than bear it on my hands and arms. I was then able to perform squats and step-ups with enough weight to get…
  • Sadly, this is quite common. I have recognized "divorce face" on several of my friends over the years, without needing to be told about the state of their union. I had it in the extreme when I divorced, losing 30lbs in 3 months, down to 111 lbs. I am 5'11" tall, putting me at a BMI below 16...VERY unhealthy! I am sure I…
  • It CAN be a big deal, healthwise, but not always. My daughter called me, distraught that she had discovered moldy grapes in her middle child's fruit and yogurt parfait from McD's. AFTER her eldest son had already eaten all of his. She was in a panic, concerned about the health impact of her child consuming rotten fruit.…
  • Bulk Legs for the first time last night. Didn't make it all the way through because I got light-headed. (Know your limits, right?) Glad to have 2 rest days built into my schedule right now! BeastLady...oh no!! I feel your pain. I have a suspected labral tear in my right hip that I have to baby constantly. Definitely rest…
  • I love Build Back & Bi's, but always seem to have soreness in my neck the day after. Any hints on not engaging the neck while working the back, or is it meant to hit the neck as well?
  • I went this route and have never been sorry! It's also really cool when your son's friends drop by and say "Awesome weight set, dude!" And the son drops his head and says "It's my MOM'S." Enjoy!!
  • Spend a day logging your time like you log your food. I made a chart, broken into 10 minute increments, and recorded my activity for an average day. I was SHOCKED at the amount of time I was wasting! Once I saw where my time was going, I was able to organize my life better. It's all about priorities!
  • My one-sided headaches turned out to be caused by my neck. Chiropractor had me fixed in no time! Definitely get checked to rule out all the above suggestions, as well as neck/back issues. It's hard enough to keep up the ambition to work out without pain.
  • Build Chest and Tri's last night. Gave all and blew out completely! Total failure at the end; could barely lift my hand to open the door. After I cooled down, ate, and went to bed, I could feel every heartbeat hammering through my chest, arms, and shoulders. This must be what growing muscle feels like! Beast on, Ladies!!
  • look for strength training under cardio. There's where you will get credit for your burn. The other is just for tracking your moves.
  • Keep adding weight! I'd say by the time you are failing at less than 8 reps, your missing soreness will show itself. Oh, and you may be one of the "lucky" ones like me who do not get sore the day after, but the second day after!
  • The problem with no progress usually comes down to A) underestimating calories consumed or B) overestimating calories burned. Are you using a food scale? Are you counting every single bite you eat, including coffee creamers and condiments? Are you using a heart rate monitor to estimate your calorie burn? If you aren't…
  • Another lady-beast joining in! I'm doing a modified 4-day schedule, but in the same order. It'll take longer to complete the program, but it was the only way to fit it in consistently. I don't think it will effect my ultimate results too much. Your thoughts?
  • The best time to work out is a time that you will consistently do it.
  • From what I've seen, the sand weights fit a smaller size bar than plate weights. I have an olympic set with steel plates, and the bar is 2" in diameter on the ends.
  • Teehee...and it's ESPECIALLY good when your young adult son's friends stop by and say "Sweet weight set and power cage, dude! Is it yours?" And the son hangs his head and mumbles "Nah, it's my mom's!"
  • From Zombies, RUN! Blog: Launch day is almost upon us! …But then what? The wait is almost over! Zombies, Run! 2 is just a matter of days away. Hours, really. Yes, we’re still on track to release on both iOS and Android on April 16th. We promised to keep you updated if anything changes and, thankfully, nothing has. In case…
  • I loved the idea of participating in Run for Your Lives! but also thought it was a little too expensive. My children got together and paid for me to go as a Christmas gift! I will be running for my life in Ohio in May!!
  • @Mazzie: There is a strength training tab under the cardio secion that estimates your lifting burn. The strength section is more for tracking your routine. Edited for typos.
  • Finished this morning. ARRRRGGGHHH! Who broke into New Canton's transmission? Is the voice on the radio responsible for the tone and the Zombies with rocket launchers? Was Abel Township attacked simply to get me out?? Was Eight really bitten? Is Abel REALLY gone??? Can't wait for Season 2!!!
  • Sip water (through a straw is especially helpful). Brush your teeth. Exercise! 10 push ups, situps, or squats can get you past that feeling for a little longer. Sometimes a distraction is all you need. Congrats, and don't give up!
  • Ok, this is semi-stupid (like "I'm not a doctor, but I saw someone play one on TV" kind of stupid) but on an episode of House MD, this very thing occurred. A patient was being slowly poisoned by the release of toxins that had built up in fat cells. Why couldn't it be possible that nicotine (or whatever other chemical helps…
  • This is how I SURVIVED my kids! LOL!
  • My 3yr old crawled into my lap, and her elbow landed directly on the Fitbit activity tracker attached to the middle of my bra. She sat up quickly and said "Sorry, Mommy. I didn't mean to bump your Fat-Bit."
  • I can totally relate. but you have to try! I did this during a really bad patch some years ago, I lost a TON of weight, and I was too upset to even realize it. I ended up 111 pounds, and I'm 5'11" tall. (ETA: in my profile pic, I am 159, if that tells you how bad it was...) I truly didn't see the damage I was doing until a…
  • The scales use electrical impedance to calculate BF%. This is highly variable, and can fluctuate wildly depending on your hydration, and moisture balance of your skin. I found this out AFTER wasting money on one. I bought a set of BF calipers and while not wholly accurate (due to human error) I can see if I'm trending…
  • First, 10 pounds in a week is likely water retention. What are you eating? And remember, no amount of training can compensate for poor diet. Get your nutrition right and the rest will follow. Second, you are working 8 hours. That leaves plenty of time before or after work for a good workout, if you plan it right. I am a…
