P90X vs Supreme 90 Day
I recently did 6 weeks of Supreme 90 Day, then switched to P90X because my husband wanted to try it. 6 weeks later, we've switched back to Supreme 90 Day. Here's why: P90X: Slicker production: Has a time-line on the bottom of the screen that shows time until the end of the exercise, and time to the end of the workout. But…

Deficit during 5k obstacle training?
For Christmas, my kids paid my registration for Run for Your Lives in May, (SUPER FREAKIN' EXCITED) and I want to train up right. I'm a 45 year old female and at a healthy weight, but have a few vanity pounds left to lose. I've chosen a training plan that combines LOTS of running with some plyo, hill drills, and upper body…

paces per minute progress
I run my app on my Ipod, so no GPS for me. The accelerometer still allows me a standard of measurement by looking at my mission logs and comparing paces per minute. I am a new runner, a multiple C25K dropout. I run as long as I can, and walk when I have to. Zombies seem to be a good motivator for me...my first run, I ran…

Adding to the program?
I was SOOO proud of myself for doing an unassisted chin up for the first time EVER this spring, and truly did not want to stop doing them. I decided to add a superset to the end of A, doing chin-ups, dips, and back extensions, all 5x5 in a circuit. To B, I added push-ups, pull-ups (hands facing away), and v-ups, also 5x5.…

Deadlift = dizzy?
I did deadlift sets tonight, Day 19 of Phase 2, Lean Hybrid Muscle Reloaded Program. 135 x 5 140 x 3 145 x 3 150 x 2 (new personal best) When I put the last rep on the floor and began to straighten up, I got incredibly dizzy and had to grab the floor. I kept my head down and breathed slowly and evenly for a moment, then…

Front squat vs. back squat
Is one better than the other? Is there any compelling reason NOT to sub back squats when a program calls specifically for front squats?

Lifters: Super stupid question...
What causes itchy eyes when lifting? It happens when I'm hitting the last few reps of a challenging weight on stuff like deadlifts and squats; you know, when you're really digging for it and actually feel the blood vessels in your neck and forehead expand? My eyes itch like CRAZY! Am I just a freak?

lifting = neck pain. What am I doing wrong?
My routines the last 2 weeks have been 1A: Deadlifts 2x15, 2 supersets of shoulder presses and wide-grip lat pulldowns, 2 supersets of weighted lunges and weighted crunches on the ball. 1B: Barbell Squats 2x15, 2 supersets of pushups and seated rows on the cable machine, 2 supersets of stepups and prone pikes on the ball.…

NROLW: Lifting straps or not?
I started NROLW 2 weeks ago. I'm working at finding challenging weights for the lifts, but I find my hands sometimes give out before the target muscles do. Do I do my best and let my hands strengthen and catch up, or will I need to invest in straps? Thanks for any suggestions/opinions!

So, how do you KNOW?
Menopause seems pretty easy to figure out. You stop having periods. Got it. But what about perimenopause? You just put checkmarks on a list of symptoms, and if there are enough, you can be reasonably sure you're on your way to the change? Can't some of those symptoms have other causes? I'm only asking because I want to…

Do you lick the bowl?
I was enjoying my apple/peanut butter snack, and ran out of apple with some peanut butter left in the container. I measured and logged the peanut butter before work this morning, so I enjoyed every last delicious calorie, right down to licking the bowl! Anyone else like to get their calories' worth?

Braiding my own hair
Working out with a ponytail is driving me nuts. I'm trying to learn to braid my own hair, but the results have been rather comical. Any tips or tricks on making a tight, neat braid? (Besides "practice, practice, practice"?) If it matters, I have fine, straight hair; bra-strap length.

Overtraining? How long to rest?
I became concerned about my physical and mental state lately and found i am probably experiencing the symptoms of overtraining. Night shift + not sleeping well + calorie deficit + daily workouts = weak, exhausted, sore, and emotional me. How long and how completely should I rest? I also raised my calories to maintenance…

Drink baking soda for recovery?!?!
Ok...just when I thought I'd heard it all. I'm new to lifting, so I asked at my job "how long after a workout do you typically expect to have jelly-arms?". Several answers, all different (no surprise, there.) But one got my attention: "Just drink a glass of baking soda in water, like you would for heartburn. Best recovery…

Lifting heavy = weaker?
I started Supreme 90 a week ago. I'm using challenging weights. I'm at or near failure by the time I reach the last set / last rep of each move. This feels good; like I'm really accomplishing something. However, I have noticed I'm less able to do my day to day tasks. I'm not what you would describe as "sore", just weak.…

3 months ago tomorrow...
I quit smoking!! And since joining MFP, I have lost the weight I gained from quitting. Because of the awesome support and education to be found on MFP, I feel like I can stay quit, keep the weight off, and enjoy a healthier lifestyle. Now to start collecting some of those "quit-rewards" I promised myself...

HR- how high is too high?
My 22 yr old daughter and I work out together. She is morbidly obese (49.4 BMI), but committed to change and works out like a beast daily! She gets very red and out of breath. Last week she even made herself sick. I recently bought HRM's for us so we could track our calories better. At those times when she can't get her…

vitamins RDA
I have been trying to meet my vitamin and mineral requirements withing the boundaries of my fat/cal/carb/pro macros from only the foods I eat. (I still take a multi, just in case, but it's become a sort of a game for me.) My question is: on the food labels, it states "% based on a 2000 calorie diet". Is that only for the…

Modern vs old school playlist
My daughter and I work out together...She is 22, I am 44. I've been choosing music for our workout playlists and I'm getting TWO THUMBS DOWN. I generally like older southern rock or new upbeat country. Her...not so much! I want to surprise her with a new playlist, but I'm clueless. I need help choosing new, up-tempo songs…

help for swing-shifter
My job is physically demanding...HALF the time. I spend 2 rotations (total of 3 weeks) on the production floor - 12hr shifts, 100+ degree heat, and several hours of brutal physical labor during the shift. Then I switch, and for the next 3 weeks, I'm stuck in an air conditioned control room 12 hrs a day, watching computers…

Now I get it!
Just read the recommended newbie posts. WOW! My daughter found this site and got me on it, so I really kinda just did the quick-start method. I thought I had enough knowledge, and that this was just going to be a faster, easier method of doing the tracking and the math. I have seldom been more wrong! In my intro post, I…

Lots to learn
Hi! My daughter suggested that I take advantage of all the site has to offer, including the social aspect. I don't usually reach out for help or encouragement, a drawback of being a fiercely independent woman. It makes it harder that I feel vain and shallow whining about losing my piddling 20 pounds, when my daughter and…
