vitamins RDA

I have been trying to meet my vitamin and mineral requirements withing the boundaries of my fat/cal/carb/pro macros from only the foods I eat. (I still take a multi, just in case, but it's become a sort of a game for me.)
My question is: on the food labels, it states "% based on a 2000 calorie diet". Is that only for the macros, or does it apply to nutrients as well?
If I eat something that provides me with 20% of my daily calcium for a 2000 cal diet, does that mean for my 1200 calorie day, I'd actually be getting a higher % of my calcium for the same serving? Or are those percentages based on what it takes to fuel an average body, regardless of the amount of calories consumed?
Probably a newbie question, but I couldn't find it discussed on the boards. Thanks for any insight.
