  • I love this advice. It's really good. I also remind myself that it's a temporary thing and go do something else... And then when I get through it, I feel amazing about myself!
  • My husband is on board with healthier eating and more exercise, but he doesn't like the idea of logging things and counting calories. He's actually very good at monitoring his food intake during the day, he only really struggles in the evening, so hopefully I can help him get through those all right. He got a haircut the…
  • The first week of a new diet is always the hardest. Remind yourself that you need to get through that first week and things will get easier then... Smaller goals you can process are a lot easier to focus on! I must agree I couldn't do the 321 Slimfast diet either, but best of luck to you!
  • When I thought of a strict diet as something I would be following for the rest of my life, I would rebel against it. Now I think of my healthier diet as a lifestyle change... And as such, I make room for treats. I'm a lot happier following a stricter diet right now, because on the 23rd I'm turning 30 - so on the 21st my…
  • I make a big pot of peppermint tea. If I really fancy something sweet I'll chuck a few sweetener tablets in, but the peppermint tea alone curbs hunger, too, and it's a nice hot drink to sip for 2 cals per teabag! You can also plan your evening meal first thing in the morning. Make sure it will be something that is filling…
  • Hello! I'm in Greater Manchester :)
  • If you're really committed to doing them (and they are pretty great in terms of results, aren't they?) then remind yourself that you'll only be doing lunges for a few minutes at a time. You just need to get through those few minutes - and then you're done with them for the day. I get through a lot of unpleasant things by…
  • I'm a freelance writer (I write articles and such for money, but also work as a writer of horror and sci fi). I may see about finding a part-time job outside the house when my youngest starts school in September, so I can spend my free time focussing on my creative career more, though.
  • I work as a freelance writer via peopleperhour.com which is a freelancing website. I don't take time off very often but I'm able to work while my kids are off school.
  • Don't think of it as screwing up... Think of it as having Christmas. Fluctuations of a few pounds here or there are normal and happen to everyone; in a normal life there will be times when you eat more and times when you eat less. I know for me, if I think of it as failing or messing up, I'm much less motivated than when I…
  • I think a lot of the time, behaviour like this stems from a sense that they should be doing the same thing you are... But aren't.
  • Another option is teething; the pain may be keeping her awake and then the action of sucking is soothing her to sleep but won't keep her asleep so she wakes again and cries with the pain. If you suspect teething then try giving her some Calpol (a dosage appropriate for her age).
  • It could be that she needs more food to keep her satisfied. Is she weaning? Is she draining her bottles/your boobs? If all that will quiet her down is milk then it sounds like she's not eating enough during the day to keep her happy at night.
  • I love the glasses, they suit your face :) And I would've said 25-26, but I am legendarily bad at guessing ages.
  • I don't really drink (much though my penchant for falling off of things seems to indicate otherwise) - maybe 2 or 3 times a year. But I think it's good to look at it as something you'll do very occasionally rather than trying to convince yourself never to do it again. Obviously YMMV - if you're an alcoholic, then you…
  • I used to be on the pill and I am super scatterbrained. I set an alarm to go off daily on my phone at noon that said TAKE PILL and just basically made sure I always had the blisterpack with me so I could take it whether I was at home, at work, or somewhere else. Might be an option...?
  • I've had Mirena twice (and have it now). I first got it when my eldest was 2 and a half, and by the time he was 4 I had no more periods. I eventually had it removed because my husband and I (then fiance) wanted to start trying for a baby. I had a new one put in as soon as possible after my youngest was born (he's now 3 and…
  • This is very much me. It's true that some people will be d*cks about it... But at the end of the day, I have known people to be d*cks about pretty much anything. I know a woman who thinks adopting children is a bad thing to do, fgs! So clearly... There's always someone looking to bag on what you're doing, no matter what…
  • I once sat down to do some weights at the butterfly pec machine (whatever it's called!) and the bloke who was there before me had sweated buckets and NOT USED A SWEAT TOWEL! So I sat down and this PUDDLE of sweat immediately soaked through the bottom of my trackies... Looked like I'd wet meself! And the bloke was still…
  • I'm going to tell you the truth - I have had problems with this. I don't really seem to enjoy running but I used to cycle a lot and will be getting back into it as soon as my ankles heal. I used to cycle 13k or so per day 5 days per week, and then I stopped because some people cat-called when I was out there and I felt…
  • You look fabulous!
  • Oh and my resolutions are: - I will get a minimum of 3 short stories published (I'm already working on 2 short stories for shared-world anthologies that are due to be published in 2012, so ideally I'd like to hit 5 instead). - I will rewrite my zombiepocalypse novel, this time with a main character I don't want to punch in…
  • You are a really amazingly inspiring person! Well done on the loss so far, I'm sure this is your year to reach your goal :)
  • My husband calls me "beautiful" and "gorgeous" on a regular basis. I know that he loves me and finds me attractive no matter what... And that is a huge factor in my ability to lose weight. If I were doing it because I felt he didn't love me as much fat (or wasn't as attracted to me fat), that would be a huge issue for me…
  • Hello! I'm in Greater Manchester. Want to be friends?
  • Go on then - I'm in Greater Manchester :) Always looking for buddies!
  • Thanks for the advice - I hadn't thought about painkillers vis a vis exercise! I'll definitely consult with my doctor, cheers :)
  • We used to pay about £80 per month for me, my husband, our then-8-year-old and our then-2-year-old, and the facilities were top notch (at Total Fitness). We do, in fact, intend to reprise our memberships, but our gym usage slipped and we basically didn't really have time to attend anymore. We also prioritised our debts and…
  • Thanks both :)

  • Hello! I just want to say that I read this post and it's really inspired me. I think it's absolutely awful that you're facing such horrible treatment from your sister. It would be all too easy to give up there, but you didn't. You stuck with it, and you should be unbelievably proud of yourself. Would you like to be friends…
