Great on both of those, very happy for you!!

Yes, you are supposed to eat your exercise calories. There are plenty of posts on here about why it is important, if you are curious. Your second question - I recommend reading the China Study if you think your protein goals are low. And yes, you need carbs - I don't know what your goals are set to, but I think the most…

Welcome welcome! This site is great :)

Hello and welcome! There have been quite a few veggie/vegan posts lately, look around and you'll find lots of friends! I've been vegan for about 8 years and was vegetarian for 7 before that. Good luck on here! I'll be happy to add you as a friend.

Hey, I just watched that movie on Friday and my husband and I started juicing right away. We had a juicer from a few years ago that we never used, so we busted it out, stocked up on produce, and here we go! We're not fasting either, just adding it in.

Ran week 2 day 1 yesterday! The first week took me a few weeks to get through due to knee pain, but I think I've figured it all out now. Onward ho!

Vegan here (if you couldn't guess by my name). Was vegetarian for about 7 years now I've been vegan for about 9 I guess. Feel free to add! It's great to have so much support on here for such a healthy lifestyle.

Hello everyone, another Seattleite here - feel free to add! Nice to see so many of us from this area :)

Thanks, homeport51, I really appreciate it.

Hey guys, I'm still here! I started last week but after week 1 day 2 I had some really bad knee pain and had to rest for quite a few days. Such a bummer, but I was determined to give it another try. Finally my knee felt better so I did week 1 day 3 yesterday - with my knee brace and iced afterward - and today feels fine!…

Rhondast, you are not practicing Bikram yoga. It sounds like the studio you go to may use some of the postures in the Bikram series, but the Bikram series is very specific - no planks, no downward dogs, and the heat is always 105 with 40% humidity as the goal. Just an FYI, you are doing hot yoga but not Bikram yoga. But…

Not being able to do all of the poses is completely normal, especially at first! The first 3-5 classes you are just trying to figure out what is going on - if you make it back, make sure you take it easy and don't push yourself too hard :) And yes, the heat is miserable, and yes, feeling like you've overcome adversity is…

I am using a treadmill, and my speeds were 3 for walking and 4.5 for running. It felt a little easy on the running but I didn't want to overdo it on the first day :) I've never been a runner and always had to walk the mile tests in high school.

Great, I just started yesterday! It was easy enough, and I found the right music really helped during the running spurts :). Happy to go through this with you guys!

ELECTROLYTES! I highly recommend getting an electrolyte replacement. Having low electrolytes could easily be causing those symptoms, and if you are drinking all water with no electrolytes you could be making it worse. Send me a message if you have any questions.

Wear the least amount of clothing you feel comfortable in. That means some women are practicing in bikinis, some women are in long yoga pants and t-shirts. It is going to be hot no matter what, but wearing less clothes helps. Maybe a tank top and exercise shorts? Comfy pants and a t-shirt? Sweat-wicking clothing is…

My first response is to take advantage of a Trader Joe's if there is one in your area! And that is great that you are not afraid of the kitchen, you'll do fine :)
-
Good job! I've also found a good book helps, but it has to be good enough to keep you focused on it.

It's a perfect yoga for a beginner, I'm a certified Bikram instructor, you can send me a message if you have particular questions :). If you try it let us know what you think!

Thanks everyone!

My favorite book so far has been "the end of overeating." Really informative, helped me not blame myself for being overweight. It is still my responsibility, but it doesn't make me a bad person. It talks about many reasons we overeat. I liked it a lot!

I love reading this! I'm a Bikram instructor, I totally agree. I think it's the best workout ever, and I'm happy to answer any questions people may have about it! I often have "tough guys" - athletes, football players, military men, firefighters - tell me it's the hardest thing they've ever done. When I first started doing…

After already signing up for this challenge, just started planning a trip to LA and Vegas that turns out to be October 1st! Perfect! I haven't felt good about my body the last few times I was in Vegas, I think it would be great to be there and feel great. I'm excited!

You can also check out "The China Study", too much protein is not considered good by everyone.
-
You said you're losing inches, which is more important. You are likely building lean muscle mass with your exercise so your weight may not drop but your body fat percentage is.
-
Ok, with this challenge in mind I'll be hitting the gym today! Would normally kill time between jobs reading . . . today I am going to make a run to the gym instead!
-
I'm in too! I was just looking at calendars last night and thinking about goals. I'm definitely in!

I used to read food packages religiously, but I was always just looking at ingredients and fat/protein. I never really counted calories, and I have been *shocked* at the calorie counts in some foods! I used to easily consume a thousand calories at a time without realizing it. Knowledge is power!

Seattle, WA. I've been here long enough to say I'm "from" here
