  • Yoga - I'd try to go to a few Yoga basics classes or take a beginners series so a teacher can instruct on form, but after that there's tons of yoga videos online and even more yoga flow outline ideas on Pinterest/Instagram.
  • I didn't lose as much (about 30) but gained back 40 and just started working on it again. I keep reminding myself that it is healthier to yoyo than to just stay at the higher weight and every time I start again I'm not starting from scratch. I remember what habits/strategies worked best last time and which to look for new…
  • I did IF for about a year in 2011-12 and wish I hadn’t stopped (worked changed and I had no control over when I could eat). I started again about 4 weeks ago and got back on MFP last week. Fair warning - I try to eat healthier than I was before within my calories. Still wouldn’t be considered very healthy - not a big green…
  • For about 4 months I was in the healthy BMI range and I didn’t like how my body looked. My BP, Cholesterol, etc have always been fine so as long as my waist to hip ratio is under .86 I don’t worry because that’s shown to be a better indicator anyway.
  • I love Michael Pollan's philosophy "Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants." I'll admit, it's more of a goal than an actual for me at the moment. I'm a very inexperienced cook - I made a recipe this weekend that called for 10 min of prep and it took me an hour, so I still need a lot more frozen meals than goal. Strongly…
  • Yoga. I'm always amazed at how fast I get stronger thru yoga. I find lifting incredibly boring, but yoga forces me to focus and I love it!
  • A lot of yoga studios offer very low introductory rates on Groupon or Living Social. Going to a few classes can make following along with a video easier and you'll have a better idea of how to do the poses.
  • https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23001745 The study he was referencing here suggested that eating processed meat EVERY DAY increased the likely hood by a percentage. Additional this was a "cohort" study based on a food frequency questionnaire. It's never been studied in a Randomized, Controlled Trial Study (Gold…
  • Drink water when you are thirsty:) http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/821181/myths-and-facts-about-hydration-requirements
  • 16/8 works great for me when I have a desk job and can control my own hours. I went off it went I took an operations rotation. I had to eat when I had a few free min otherwise it might be hours until I had another opportunity and it was very active work. I'm having trouble getting back on the schedule this time though. The…
  • I'll represent the other side of the spectrum: I'm 5'10" and the max on the BMI chart is 178. The lowest I ever got was 167, and did not like how my upper body looked. The lowest I ever want to be again is 175. At 167, I was in a pant size 10, and still needed jackets in a 12, but any sleeveless tops could be a 4 or 6.…
  • The Beguiled (not good)
  • I take a daily probiotic, because I'm a picky eater so my diet isn't very diverse. I started taking it about the same time I started going to Yoga again, so it's hard to know for sure which one has me feeling better:)
  • My brother suggested that my mom and I watch this. I really tried (because I love and respect my brother), but immediately felt like I'd stumbled into a Vegan's Google search - where Google has already filtered out the results it knows the Vegan doesn't want to see. I turned it off after the 3rd time he was astonished that…
  • I'm not just starting. My feelings are based on 15 years of paying attention to my body and as much research as I can stand to consume. Nothing you have said has contradicted my assertion that we don't have the tools to accurately calculate Calories Out. So we're arguing in circles.
  • But if calories you burn aren't linear (rates changes based on the amount of exercise/other factors WE DO NOT KNOW) it's an unknownable variable. If we can't accurately calculate calories out, calories in/calories out doesn't work. One of my biggest problems with anything weight loss or fitness related is anyone saying…

  • That calories in/out works....but not all the time. If it worked all the time people wouldn't plateau. Since there's no way to do controlled long term studies there's a lot about weight and health that we don't know. BMI is severely lacking as a measure of health. I use waist to hip ratio.
  • Had another thought - Zucchini makes a pretty decent pasta substitute. I sliced 3 zucchini into long strips and used it in place of lasagna noodles. Zucchini flavor is pretty mild and the other flavors in lasagna are strong so that was a winner for me.
  • I feel your pain. I hate most green vegetables, too. I like corn, potatoes, peas and edamame - the vegetables that people decry as starches. For a long time trying to eat vegetables would actually trigger a gag reflex for me. I started trying them without actually swallowing them. Took a bite, chewed it, tasted it, spit it…
  • There are types of exercise I enjoy more than others, but I would always rather be reading a book. After years of on and off exercise sprees, I'm in the camp of making small manageable changes that will last rather than going hardcore for 3-9 months and then burning out. My situation is similar to yours except I'm single.…
  • I just bought a WOSS system on Amazon for a little under $40 dollars. So far I've been able to use it for anything I've seen in a TRX video. It has the option to put it over a door or attach to beam/tree.…
  • I generally think of 5'8" as tall. The pants example made me giggle. I'm 5'11" and in flats normal pants are *just* long enough for me. My height is all torso:)
  • I'm 5'11" and 200.3 (yep that first number 2 is what got me back on here). I lost 30 lbs a few years ago and maintained 20 lbs of it for a few years until work travel this year derailed me. It's definitely nice to have other tall girls as friends - the nice thing about height is that gaining 5 lbs isn't really noticeable,…
  • All driving travel - this year will all be within 3.5 hours of home so I'm not struggling with car ride snacking too bad (although my Mtn Dew habit has to go). The crockpot is a good idea. I'll check the setup in the hotel room this week. I've actually already a planned week one from online restaurant menus w/calorie info…

  • 1 Cheese based anything 2 Mountain Dew I have some others that vary. I've gone thru Butterfinger and Reese Peanut Butter cup phases, and mashed potatoe phases, but those two are constant. I crave them regardless of whether it's been 10 mins or 10 weeks.
  • This is a Catch-22 for me. When I quit counting calories my weight goes up, but I have zero success counting calories in Nov-Dec because of the hours I work. Since the MFP app on my phone doesn't work I get out of the habit of counting, but still lose weight because of work. Then January hits and I don't want to go back to…
  • ^agreed Also I sleep better on a full stomach.
  • I can only speak for myself, but this is why I rarely lift. I spent time with a trainer at the gym about 5 years ago and got pretty good result over about 6 months. I was lifting heavy and doing cardio. I of course lost focus and lost the gains I had made. A couple years ago I decided to try it again, but didn't have the…
