Finally broke the 4mph walking speed this morning. My average speed for 2.4 miles was 14:20.

How long will sodium increase water retention?
Last week I ate out 3 meals while I was on a trip. I couldn't get accurate nutrition information for 2 of them, though one of them had calorie info. I know Saturday was crazy high sodium (4356) and over maintenance. I assume the meal on Sunday was high sodium as well, though calorie count for the day was under maintenance.…

Do you track your shopping expeditions?
I'm sedentary, so pretty much anything past 2k steps is extra. I've been up 6 hours and have 1k steps, which included going to the grocery store for a few things and watering the school garden. Weekly grocery shopping takes about an hour and, I', guessing 2k steps. The calorie calculators I've seen that even mention it put…

Things I’ve always heard
They seem logical, but I have no idea if they’re actually true. Anyone? You burn more calories exercising in cold because you are using more calories to warm your body. Exercising before breakfast burns more fat because you don’t have as many carb reserves.

Turnip and carrot "pancakes"
I made a carrot and turnip "mash" the other day. I thought of about 12 ways to do it better after the fact, but that's beside the point now. I have the mash left though so I'm thinking add an egg, some whole wheat flour to get the right stickiness, and fry it in some olive oil, and I'll have something pretty good. Other…

How do you calculate servings?
When I create a recipe, I usually base the serving size on the protein. Generally I call 4oz a serving, maybe a little more for chicken breast. Then if it's something like pot roast where it's all dumped in the pot, I don't put the potatoes/carrots/onions in the recipe, I weigh them separately and put them in as boiled.…

When the person who should be your biggest supporter
Is the one who seems to make the most negative comments, what do you do? Examples: Wife saw me weighing an apple and said well that's just obsessive. Why are you weighing that, aren't they good calories? Has made multiple comments to the effect of, well if your denying yourself the things you really like, is it worth it?…

What do you do on days you're starving?
For some reason, I've been starving all day. In the past when this happened, it usually meant there was something in particular I really wanted, but I didn't necessarily know what. I'm attempting to just ignore it and go about my day. Anyone have any tips or tricks they use when this happens? Trying to trick my body by…

Cocoa powder in overnight oats
Anyone have any tips for this? Turned out gritty and incredibly bitter, even with almond butter and honey in it. I made it Sunday so I don't think it's a will mellow with time thing. Best thought I had would be to make hot chocolate, cool it, then make the oatmeal. Maybe add the honey into the hot chocolate as well. I…

Missed it by that much....
Friday morning weigh in 220.2. Can't even blame water retention because I managed a very low sodium day yesterday after the salt lick I ate on Wednesday...

What your taste buds get used to
There was a time, the thought of eating plain Greek yogurt straight would have left a bad taste in my mouth. Today I caught myself licking it off the spoon I used to put some in my lunch. What's your food like that?

It's treat night
That's right, I saved enough calories and sodium to get the Beef and Cheddar from Arby's. Sure I have to get the salad to keep my sodium from going through the roof, but small price to pay for a Beef and Cheddar.

McDonald's
So I've read through various posts that say McDonald's should be a 4 letter word on this site. I know it's not a good choice in general. Taking my son and his friend there anyway. Does anyone know how accurate the nutrition calculator on the site is? The bacon chicken ranch salad without the bacon or cheese looks like a…

So the pharmacist asked me about my diet
Been going to same pharmacy for 12 years. Pharmacist noticed I'd lost weight and asked me what diet I was on. Told her it was the eat less, exercise more diet and she just stared at me like I was speaking another language. I think she was expecting me to say Keto or Adkins or something like that.

What do you put in your coffee?
I have used coffeemate for 15 - 20 years. I had no idea how much I used a day, or how many calories that was, until I started tracking it. That was about 200 calories and 10g fat right there. Also it's pretty much corn syrup and hydrogenated oil so that didn't sound healthy. I decided to try a fat free half and half. It's…

Made my daughter's birthday cake
Without frosting or filling, MFP says it's 5036 calories for the cake. The frosting she wants is 1700 calories a can. The filling I'm going to make is 814 calories if I use it all. So 7550 for the cake. Glad I've banked a ton of calories this week with excessive exercise.

38 grams of fiber?
Yesterday was the first time I hit that number. I had to eat chia pudding, whole grain pasta, brown rice, and an apple. Normally I'm closer to 20, if I'm lucky. Other than eating a feedbag of oats every day, I'm kind of at a loss on how to actually hit that number. Fiber supplements are out because I looked at them and it…

Apparently I walk wrong...
Had some pain after walking a 10k (more like 10 miles all said and done) so I went to the ortho. He said I have high arches and need inserts and the physical therapist can take care of it for me. PT told me I walk wrong (supination) and have to re-train my body to walk correctly. I have some semi custom inserts to help,…

Shoulda had the kickin chicken sandwich and fries...
But no I was good and still have 1k calories because I thought I was going to be bad at Zaxby’s so I did an hour on the elliptical on top of my walk. Maybe the kids have some fries left...

Are you a picky eater?
I have never considered myself a picky eater. But when I was logging things in the app today, there was a blog post that basically said if you won't eat <insert food here> after trying it, then you're a picky eater. Obviously, I'm simplifying the blog post for dramatic effect, but it did make me think. I refuse to eat…

So my clothes weigh 2 pounds
I normally weigh fully clothed. Had no idea they weight that much.

What's a normal day to day fluctuation
I don't usually weigh daily, but after a "naked" weight yesterday, I decided to try again today. Basically the same circumstances, only difference I can think of is about 250ml water less this morning. Anyway, my weight was almost 2 pounds less in 24 hours. That seems like a lot.

Weekend motivation
Weekend meals have always been the cheeseburgers, big steak, comfort meal type things. I know I can still have them as long as I'm careful, but since they're the things I usually overindulge, I've cut them out completely for now. So before going to the grocery store where I knew they had ribeye on sale, I hit the closet and…

Once again
I'm at the end of the day with almost 500 net calories lying about. I skipped one of my snacks today, and another was smaller than usual. Part of it was work getting in the way and part of it was just not being hungry. Should I force myself to eat those "spare"calories? If we're counting actual calories, I've actually gone…

Breaks between sets/exercises
I tried searching the forum, but there's too much. How long should I wait between sets? Between exercises? I've been doing 1 minute between sets and about 5 between exercises. That seems to give my muscles enough time to recover before moving on. Not trying to be bulky, just build a little muscle to help with fat burning.

What's your buffer?
What do you do to insure that you're not going to go over your calorie goal by mistake? I have my goal set for 2 lbs a week and a sedentary lifestyle. I do add exercise, but I look for the lowest number option. Basic idea is in the event the recipe I entered didn't calculate out correctly or my exercise didn't burn as much…

So the lawn mower died
Wasn’t going to log the exercise because 10 minutes with a mower for a postage stamp yard. But then it died and I had to pull out the old school reel mower. Which is 6 inches narrower and requires 2-3 passes to get everything. So 10 minutes becomes 30. I looked it up and for my weight, various sits out that at 250-350…

The 6 month check up
Had my 6 month check up with the doc. My weight is down 14 pounds. I know most of that is probably in the last month that I started tracking etc. Talked to him about my glucose (106 last time) so we did a quick check for that. Back down to 87 today. Last food for that was an apple last night and coffee with coffeemate this…

How do I input this?
Doing some strength exercises with 10lbs hand weights. So when an upright row asks for the weight, do I put 10lbs or 20lbs? Doesn’t count toward my calories so not sure why I’m bothering inputting other than motivation.
