Before killing people and breaking things, make your bed
This quote is from NYTimes story: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/02/style/how-to-make-your-bed.html?_r=0 “You need an anchor point for your day, and sometimes that anchor is as a simple as making your bed,” said Mr. McRaven, now the chancellor of the University of Texas and the author of “Make Your Bed: Little Things That…

I had a lousy, no good, rotten day.
My daughter is taking vacation this week. She has been planning for several weeks to go to the Dallas Arboretum today. I was ready. I was psyched. She woke up late in the morning and announced that the Arboretum was off the plan and she wanted to go shopping. My plan was dashed. I started eating everything. I managed to…

Serious: Climate, crops, costs.
https://electroverse.net/usda-cannot-extend-planting-dates-money-before-food That is just one article. Electroverse is one site with data about weather and climate. The focus of the site is to publicize the onset and progress of the Grand Solar Minimum. The end of every article is "Prepare. Grow your own". Discuss.

Alas! Now mfp hinkiness has afflicted even me, using a web browser
I've already filed a proper complaint. My food diary shows trillions of calories consumed because I typed over a decimal point. An ad covers the 'delete' button, so I don't seem to be able to remove it. For 3 years I've smirked as you app users have complained bitterly about mfp non-functionality. Now, I are you.

NSV and Dark Confession
So, no, it does not belong in Success Stories. According to my food diary, I went to the grocery store last Thursday. How can I tell? Easy. After I get home from the grocery buying snacks and treats for my family, I pig out. Too often. The NSV is that one of the bags of snacks I purchased Thursday was Fritos Scoops. This…

Question re: exercise calories and carb limits
Hello. I read, I think it was at livestrong.com, that a person in ketosis who first burned calories in vigorous cardio could then consume a suitably sized carb snack without harming his/her ketosis status. I've been re-introducing cardio exercise during the 9 days of my keto experience, but have been unsure of 'how' to eat…

Math question. I want to calculate each macro as a % of my total calories.
For instance, my total calories today is 2071. I have 20 net grams carb = 80 calories I have 153 grams fat = 1377 calories I have 132 grams protein = 528 calories. 80/2071 + 1377/2071 + 528/2071 = 1985/2071, or about .96. If all the calories are from carb, fat, and protein, where the heck is that other 4%?

My noob keto questions
I've seen many keto advisors say that we should disregard calories while consuming low carb and high fat foods. The combination, I understand, provides satiety automatically with no need of counting calories. I've only been at this for 2 days. Maybe I just need a word of reassurance. Is it really ok to stop eating when I'm…

world's greatest hitchhiker convo
Lady friend of mine posted: "I picked up a hitch-hiker. Seemed like a nice guy. After a few miles he asked me if I wasn't afraid he might be a serial killer? I told him the odds of two serial killers being in the same car was extremely unlikely. I think he wet his pants."

Boris Johnson (UK politician) gets to the point
Boris gets to the point without realizing it. https://spectator.us/boris-brexit-chocolate-bar/ The point being that to lose weight, one makes reform to one's eating habits. Exercise, of course, is good for your health, but not sufficient for your well being. It took a few hundred extra words, but the elements of sanity are…

November 2018 Jennie-O turkey products recall
I copied the relevant portion from the Dallas Morning News tweet this morning: "The recalled turkey products were shipped nationwide and produced on Sept. 11. They include 1-pound packages of lean turkey, taco-seasoned ground turkey and Italian-seasoned ground turkey with use-by dates of Oct. 1-2. The products also include…

autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis MAY be helped by drinking baking soda
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/04/180425093745.htm A daily dose of baking soda may help reduce the destructive inflammation of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, scientists say. They have some of the first evidence of how the cheap, over-the-counter antacid can encourage our spleen to promote…

Brown fat, on demand
Not yet, but it appears that in a few years we'll be able to have our white fat extracted, converted to brown fat, and re-injected. Brown fat burns calories. If we humans had some naturally, we'd be slim. https://engineering.columbia.edu/press-releases/sam-sia-white-brown-fat
