Food intolerance symptoms?
I know this site isn’t meant for a diagnosis I was wondering if anyone with any experience could make some suggestions ☺️ I’ve been struggling with some kind of allergy or intolerance for a while now. I think it’s food based as it shows up after eating but there’s no consistency to it. I’ve tried keeping a food diary and…

Exercising before eating
I like to exercise in the morning and I was wondering if there are any pros or cons to having breakfast before vs after exercise or if it’s purely just preference?

Running and body changes
I’d like to start running and have been reading around on how it can affect your body (the positives and negatives). I’m slightly worried I’ll end up with no curves (I’m not blessed in that department to begin with) and was wondering how to counter this?

Squat stance?
I’ve seen mixed claims about the effect of squat stance on muscle groups and was wondering if anyone could tell me the benefits of narrow vs wide stance squats? Some claim that narrow works the glutes more, some that wide is the more effective form. Is there a large difference in the muscles used most in those two…

How much rest on rest day?
Sounds daft but I always took a ‘rest day’ very literally to mean no exercise but today is my rest day and I really fancy going for a jog. Is doing light cardio okay on rest days or am I better letting my body fully recover?
-
Running/jogging calories?
I use Map My Run to log my runs but the calories seem high. Today I was out for just over 30 mins alternating asking and jogging and the app reckons I burned 270 calories. Does that sound like a reasonable amount?

Couch to 5K- My experience
Last week I started the Couch to 5K programme. I've been keeping a log of my experience and would like to share it on here :) I'm not massively unfit but cardio has never been my thing and I've never been able to run anywhere near a 5K. I once signed up for a 10K Charity Santa Dash when I was in high school. Did not…

Sweet treats- how often?
I eat way too much sugar (some from fibrous fruity sources, a lot from biscuits and cakes) and I’m trying to find out how much of the stuff is actually okay to eat. Ive done a brief google and the answers range from every once in a while, to twice a week to one thing a day! I suppose a small cake bar with 10g of sugar is…

Runners: Hips?
I enjoy running and am trying to build fitness and stamina slowly so I can run longer distances. I’ve noticed my hips feel very achey, and sore after a run- more so than other parts of my legs/body. It could just be my body adjusting and that my hips are weaker than I thought but I wanted to ask about hip pain and what is…

Nutritious family dinners?
We’ve fallen into a rut with our family meals. We have some favourite recipes (Chinese pork stir fry, sweet chilli chicken thighs with Mediterranean veg, fish and baby potatoes with greens) but they’re becoming repetitive and I’d like to shake it up. I’ve been trying to find new recipes that are reasonably cheap and look…

Exercising on sore muscles?
I started going to the gym again recently and last went on Wednesday. As I'm starting out after a long time away from the gym, I was aiming to go 2 or 3 times a week depending on how I recover from each session. It's now Sunday and I was hoping to go this weekend but my muscles are still sore to move from Wednesday. I…

Effect of consistently high fat diet?
In terms of macro ratios rather than massively overeating. I’ve recently been trying to incorporate more nuts and seeds into my diet which combined with things like oil, eggs and butter which i don’t shy away from but don’t use in excess means my macro ratio of fat is often pushing 50%. I’ve seen arguments both for and…

Do you count all sugars or just added?
The mfp food diary shows all sugars. I eat quite a lot of fruit and like veg such as carrots which are high in naturally occurring sugars. I also have a lot of milk and yoghurt. Today, the only added sugar I’ve had is 2 tsp honey (10g) yet my sugar intake is nearly 60g and it’s only lunchtime! Do you count all sugars or…

Feeling exhausted?
I've struggled for a long time with feeling tired. I sleep well and comfortably, usually get 7 - 9 hours. I was hoping by moving a bit more I would feel more energetic so decided to start going to the gym again, aiming to go for around 40 minutes two or three times a week. Only I am EXHAUSTED at the end of the work day. I…

Vitamin supplements and acne?
I have problem skin and one thing I've considered that may help is making sure I'm getting all my essential daily amounts of vitamins and minerals. However I've found that vitamin supplements (multivitamins, vitamin D, the dissoluble energy tabs) all seem to make mu skin break out. Anyone else experience this or know why…

What's the biggest small change you've made?
Weight or fitness goals are the result of small changes and efforts made daily. What small change did you make that had a huge impact? For me I cut out sugar from my tea, reducing my daily sugar intake by around 10 teaspoons (at least 5 cups a day, 2 sugars each) which I think helped massively!

Emotional connection to food?
I think most of us have an emotional connection to food to some extent. But for me, I've found I'm turning to sweet treats more and more to feel good. I associate them with feeling relaxed and 'treating' myself (nothing wrong with the occasional treat...until it turns into a daily overdose). I know I do it, but I'm…

Squats and knees?
Everytime I squat to full depth, my left knee makes a snapping sound. It doesn't hurt per say but it feels like a twanging sensation to the side of my kneecap. Squats are great for developing muscles but I don't want to risk injuring myself. Has anyone else experienced that sensation or know what it is? It only twangs when…

Reduce or quit?
I eat waaaay too many sweet treats and am trying to cut down. I've made some good baby steps like swapping my after lunch chocolate bar for a piece of fruit and not eating anything sweet until after 10 am (yeah...that's how bad I am with sugary stuff. I'll sit and have chocolate with my breakfast...). I'm making sure I'm…

Nutritious Porridge Ideas?
I'm looking for some new flavour combinations for my porridge and was wondering if anyone had any ideas! So far I have: Forest fruits, almond and honey Banana, walnut and chocolate (well, cacao powder but it's chocolately with extra nutrients) Apple, nuts and cinnamon Maple and pecan 'Carrot cake' with carrots, walnuts,…

Sore hips from running?
When I run I get an achey pain in the crease between my leg and hips at the front that lasts for a few days. I don't run very far and mix up jogging with some walking but have to stop before I'm tired because of this pain. I think it must be something to do with the way I run (I don't have that much knowledge on running…

Were you shocked at how much you were consuming??
I'm terrible at logging and I'm not overweight, I eat how I please so I don't bother with it. However I do know that I eat more sugar than I should. Over the last few days I've logged properly and I'm shocked at the quantity of sugar I'm eating. 114, 147 and 181 g in a day! That's 2 to 3 times MORE than I should have! And…

Running chest ache
This is probably a really daft question and is a normal thing but I thought I'd ask. I've recently taken up running as I wanted to try something new. I've always been active through competitive swimming, going to the gym, dance and fitness classes (spinning, piyo) so I thought I was in pretty good shape and would have said…

Exercises for glutes and quads that are easy on the knees?
I want to increase the strength and size of my glutes and quads. I've found things like squats, lunges and leg presses aggravate an old knee injury even if I don't use any weights. I've made sure I'm performing the exercises with the correct form but they're still hurting. Does anyone know of any exercises that work glutes…

Running- heel first or not?
Runners!! Is there a right way to jog/run? Most people seem to jog heel first but I've seen suggestions that striking mid-foot is the way to go? Will one way leave you more prone to injury or is it just personal preference?

Help cutting down on added sugar?
I eat a lot of sugar. I didn't realise quite how much until I started looking to decrease the amount of added sugar in my diet and found that I don't even know what to eat that isn't high in added sugar! From adding honey to my porridge to a lunch filled with chocolate biscuit snacks and cake bars, yoghurts with those…

Running form on treadmills?
I have never been much of a runner but I like to use the cardio machines at the gym to warm up on. I'm healthy and young, reasonably fit. My legs are pretty strong and I swim competitively so have good endurance. But I can't run for more than 30 seconds! I'm working on improving my running but don't seem to be getting very…
