kettlebell
Anyone do this? Results? Also, why is this not in the exercise database? I don't have an HRM (i know, i know - but I lost 40 lbs just fine without one) and am looking for a ballpark on calories burned but can't find it.

smoothies - bitter solutions
For breakfast, I've been making variations on a berry/yogurt smoothie. I've tried frozen and fresh berries. I've tried adding a little sugar or honey. They just don't taste good though like the ones from Smoothie King, etc. Suggestions?

getting back on the wagon
I started this whole thing shortly after seeing this picture of my self I couldn't believe I had let myself get so big. Now,don't get me wrong. I've been "chunky" my whole life. "Big boned" my family liked to say. I topped out around 190 and my lowest was living in Seattle when I commuted by bike. I was around 165. I…

Caloric Intake
Let me first start by saying, I am not one of those 1200 calorie eaters who never eats back their exercise calories. I lost 40 pounds eating the allotted calories from MFP and eating back 75-80% of my exercise calories. I stopped logging for a bit once I got damn near my goal and over the course of about 8 months gained…

132 Day Difference
Sitting at home today with a case of pink eye and just generally feeling "blah" so thought I would post a little pick me up. I suffer from a case of "fat girl-itis." Despite KNOWING I've lost weight and KNOWING I'm wearing a smaller size, I just don't SEE the difference in my body when I look in the mirror. Can't wait…

plateau advice
I've been stuck around my current weight of 147 for over a month. I'm thinking about eating at maintenance for a week to see if that will jump start my loss again. I have about another 17 lbs to go to my goal weight. I rarely do the same exercise routine two days in a row. My diary is open if you want to see what I've been…

runners: hip pain?
I had a big 7 mile run three days ago, much of which was uphill in one direction. the next day, my hip was sore. i've done two runs since then and it doesn't hurt when I run, but is always sore the next morning. I've iced and looked up what could be causing it. I'm settled on hip bursitis. Anyone experience this and can i…

shaking the fat girl feeling
today at the gym, i was on the arc trainer. this cute girl came and jumped on next to me. she was thin, fit, but curvy. not chunky. i was being nosy and saw her type in her weight at 145. Only four pounds less then I am at! But I don't feel like I look like her. I bought a size small dress today which is huge since I've…

I've lost 23 lbs. (180 - 157) I've lost 15.3 inches (total) I've dropped to a size 12 in jeans and a medium in dress and sweaters (from a 14 - pushing 16 in jeans and a large or extra large in tops.) I've accidentally tried on a size 10 skirt and it FIT! (I'm not feeling ready to buy a size 10 yet) I've gone from a BMI on…

Vegetarian Low Sodium ways to meet daily protein
Title says it all. I am not vegetarian, but I eat vegetarian 80-90% of the time. On days I eat no meat, I normally fall short on protein. I am not particularly interested in trying protein shakes or powders. Google searches are yielding me little. What are some ways you meet protein daily with natural, non-meat foods.

How life changes in 66 days...
I've lost 21 lbs. I've lost 13.5 inches (total) I've dropped to a size 12 in jeans and a medium in dress and sweaters (from a 14 - pushing 16 in jeans and a large or extra large in tops.) I've gone from a BMI on the top end of overweight into the HEALTHY range!!!!! I went from not being able to run for 30 seconds to…

how to switch up exercise plan?
so, this may be a silly question, but here it goes. i go to the gym 5-6 days a week. i do some form of cardio (either arc trainer, elliptical or tread mill) every day. I normally do two different things a day. So, I might start with 45 min on the arc trainer, do strength, then do 30 on the elliptical. for strength, i'll do…

life heavy confusion
so, i've been reading lots of advice on here and the interwebz about lifting heavy/low reps vs. light lifting/more reps. i still have some questions: 1. what is considered heavy? is it different for everyone? 2. how many machines (not ready for the big leagues....please don't tell me to move to free weights.) should I be…

level 2 is no joke
i'm dying. i thought i had level one down but level two just kicked my *kitten*. i'm not terribly strong in my upper body and all those plank moves were killers. but I did it! and I finished without stopping. thank goodness there is a "beginner" way to do some of those exercises.
-
any truth to this?
I found this quote: Studies show people who exercise before breakfast burn fat more efficiently throughout the day, while happy-hour exercisers benefit from peak levels of flexibility, endurance, and strength.
-
free weights vs. weight machines
i've been doing the weight machines. my gym has them set up so if you go through them all you have done a full body workout. i read that i should put the resistance high enough that by the 11 or 12th rep, i'm struggling. does this sound like an "effective" regiment? should i be doing whole body every day? or split it up?

calories
I'm so confused. The goal of lots of folks trying to lose weight on this site seem to be that they want to be "under their calorie goal" for each day, often by hundreds of calories. But if the deficit is already worked in to your goal and the calorie number is a GOAL, should we be eating as close to that number as…

Level Twoers doing the low impact moves?
Is anyone else doing mostly the low impact/beginner moves on level two? I'm simply not strong enough in my upper body to hold me up doing the plank moves. Tell me I'm not alone!!!

Post your Picture Results (Week 1)
I'll start. Not a huge difference, but a difference all the same. Things seem to be toning.

lifestyle
I'm kind of on the fence about my "lifestyle". I'm a middle school teacher and on my feet during the day, but I also do some sitting at times, like when I'm on the computer planning. I had it at "Lightly Active" as I don't think I spend the majority of the day sitting, then I moved it to Sedentary because I didn't want to…

first day at the gym
my husband and I sucked it up and decided to pay for a gym. we didn't really think we had the $$ but sat down with our budget and worked it in. today is my first day, but i'm nervous. i don't know where to start. i've on day 12 of 30DS and I'm going to continue that as well on my days not at the gym (Every other day...we…
