12mos, 46 Pounds Lost, Heavy Lifting Mom (5'8")
So, today is my one year anniversary for logging in to MFP. Big deal, right? Not really. I joined back in January 2012 but didn't really get serious until this time last year. The logging streak is nothing more than taking the few seconds to click on MFP to get credit for the day, not an indicator of awesomeness,…

I ate 3,446 calories yesterday!!!
That is 1,326 calories over my daily goal. And guess what.....I'm not starving myself today OR punishing myself with excessive exercise. In fact, I'm taking a much needed rest day today. I'm NOT promoting binge eating, rather a healthy mindset about food. Yesterday was partly emotional eating, and partly because my body…

My Results - Posted Blog
I "finished" on Day 59 due to knee injury. Stats and photos are in a blog post. I'm pretty pleased! I dropped from a size 14 to a 10, lost 14lbs and about 30 inches. I can tell a big difference in my clothes and in "clothed" pictures. I have a much harder time seeing a difference looking at myself in the mirror and the…

Homemade Yogurt & Strained Whey - Nutrition?
Hello there! I make homemade yogurt and sometimes strain the whey off. Can anyone tell me how this affects the nutritional value? And what is the nutritional value of whey? I saw some liquid whey listed in the database - 50 cals, 2g protein and 13 OR 0g sugar - per cup?? People talk about how packed with protein whey is,…

Is there a group on the boards for women lifters NOT following NROLFW or SL 5x5? Just a general group for women lifting heavy things? I searched and didn't see one. I know we are out there....... :glasses:

AMRAP - OK to skip?
I'm about to finish stage 1 and the AMRAP workouts are next. Do you do them? Is there any benefit other than showing you how far you've come from your starting weights? I know I've gotten alot stronger and have at least doubled all of my weights. I started squatting a 50# bar and am now squatting 105#, deadlift went from…

Lifting Gloves? Callouses?
Does anyone use lifting gloves? I'm getting callouses on my hands and wondering about gloves. I know they are not recommended for some lifts, especially the deadlift, because it affects grip strength. Should I be concerned with grip strength? So...gloves or just tough it out and feel better when my callouses get harder and…

For those who had first session with PT
I have never lifted with free weights, so I have a session with the gym trainer on Wednesday. I've told her that I have my own program to follow, but I need introduction and orientation, etc for equipment and form. If you did the same, did you actually do your first workout A that day with the trainer? If so, did you still…

Prone Jackknife - Butt in the air?
All of the prone jackknife videos I have seen online show and specifically say to keep your back flat, do not let your butt go in the air. From what I'm understanding and the pictures in the book, you are supposed to get that booty UP. Is that right? Are there any videos that actually show this technique? Thanks!!!

Anybody only 2x per week?
I am starting the program in about three weeks when I finish Insanity. I have a gym membership, but due to work, family scheduling, etc I will probably only be able to schedule 2x per week. I don't have any equipment at home other than some 5lb hand weights, ha ha! The book says that 2x per week is okay, but is it REALLY?…

5'8 Mom of 2 - 53 pounds down
I'm still a work in progress, but this picture made me realize how far I've come!! For the first time in years, I am not avoiding the camera...and I actually like what I see in the photo. YEAH NSV!! Scale victory is that I hit 50 pounds lost on Saturday. I'm 5'8 and topped the scale at 257 several years ago. After having…

Can't afford Insanity...any free/cheap equivalents?
Title sums it up. My library has Insanity, but it will be several months (up to six based on the holds ahead of me) before it is available. Are there any free youtube options that anyone can recommend? I'm currently doing Turbo Jam and adding on 10 Minute Trainer sessions after the easier days. I've done P90X and have…

BF Weaning & How it Affects Weight?
Hello there MFP folks! I have an 11 month old perfect little boy and I will be weaning soon. A year of breastfeeding has been exhausting! I must say, I have enjoyed getting to eat extra calories every day. I recently cut back to 250 extra since he is eating less. I will continue to decrease as we cut out feeding sessions.…

Is average hr of 85% too high?
When doing cardio (usually turbo jam), I push myself as hard as I possibly can the entire time, after warming up. My average heart rate the last time was 85%. I was above my "zone" 65% of the time, meaning my hr was above the cardio zone limit of 158. So my question: should I NOT push myself like that? Do I need to stay…

Finally in ONEderland!!
I'm so excited! 197.5 this morning. I've lost 35.5 since joining MFP. I have 22.5 to go. It just felt so good not to see that 2 on the scale this morning. Yeah!!!!! Thanks for everyone l's support. I did the first several months without being part of the mfp community. I've done much better, been more motivated, learned so…

Calculate VO2 without running?
Hi there! My HRM asks for VO2. I have an injury and unable to run.....at all! I can do other exercises, but not running. I can do elliptical, bike, cardio, etc but absolutely no running. Before anyone asks - I have not been to the doctor, as I would have to pay out of pocket for an MRI so I can't say for sure what it is. I…

HRM chest strap necessary?
I'm looking into buying a hrm. I prefer a watch only with no chest strap. There are some continuous read watches, one is Polar RS100. I want to be able to wear it when I'm not exercising too. Why? Because I just want to know about calories burned and hr during my daily activities. I know a chest strap is the way to get the…

Running - Pelvic Injury (not hip flexor) HELP!
In December, I had been running for a month or so up to that point, after my son was born August 30. I was running several miles during the week and working up longer runs on the weekend. A few miles into a run, the outside of my pelvic bone area started getting very tight. I wanted to push through and felt a kind of pop…

30 lbs gone, half way there! (pics)
I'm a little nervous about posting progress photos, but mfp seems to be an uplifting and encouraging environment. Especially this board. So here goes..... I am finally half way to my goal weight. As of this morning, I have lost 30 pounds since February (taking the month of May off and gaining a few back). I am 5'8 and have…

Random Friend Requests?
So I'm pretty new to the community boards on mfp and since I've started posting some q&a's I have received several friend requests from people I don't know. Can someone explain this to me? Maybe they see my response or weight loss ticker and have something in common? Are people looking for motivation on their notifications…

So I should eat more than my BMR (alao breastfeeding)?
My BMR is 1,697 and I am also breastfeeding. So I should eat at LEAST 2,197 (added 500 for nursing 5x per day) every day? I also workout hard for 45 minutes 4/5 times per week and I need to eat back 100% of those to keep cals consumed at 2197 minimum (even though mfp may set my calorie target number lower)? Sorry if this…

Include warm up and cool down in # of mins exercised?
When I'm recording my number of minutes exercised, do I include the warm up and cool down minutes? I don't have a good heart rate monitor and I don't see myself getting one soon unless one of you kind folks sends me one......so I'm relying on my basic HRM watch to make sure my HR is above 80% and then using online…

HRM shows double cals burned vs MFP & online calorie calcs?
Hello and thanks for reading! I have a basic HRM watch that only calculates calories burned by heart rate based on age and sex, I cannot input weight or height. I do very intense cardio and keep my heart rate at or above 80% for 35 minutes. My hrm says approx 600 calories burned. MFP calculates way less, like 400 or so,…
