Running - Pelvic Injury (not hip flexor) HELP!

In December, I had been running for a month or so up to that point, after my son was born August 30. I was running several miles during the week and working up longer runs on the weekend. A few miles into a run, the outside of my pelvic bone area started getting very tight. I wanted to push through and felt a kind of pop or tear and it took me down. I hobbled the remaining mile home, crying out in terrible pain.

Fast forward six months to now..... I've been working out on the elliptical machine and have lost 30+ pounds since the injury. I stretched and did elliptical for 30 minutes last night. I got on the treadmill and started jogging a 12 minute mile. My body felt great. I did not speed up or run any harder - just a nice, easy jog.

Then it happened again. I felt the tightness creep in after only 8 minutes and I stopped before the "pop" but I am in a bad amount of pain. Walking is painful in my pelvic bone area on my left outer area. It is not in my hip joint, but above.

I thought six months off would be long enough for my body to heal. My mom, an ortho surgery RN, said it sounded like it could be a stress fracture where the muscle has torn away from the bone. Does anyone have experience with this? Suggestions on treatment? In case anyone would suggest swimming, I don't have access to a pool. Thanks in advance!!

I just really want to know what this is and why it has repeated itself after six months.

Not to be rude or sound blunt, but I think you should get this checked out by a doctor. Don't guess, find out for sure what's wrong.

That's not rude at all, just honest.

I know that's what I NEED to do and I'm sure I'll end up going eventually. Our insurance won't cover it so cost is the major inhibitor.

I'm meeting with a personal trainer on Monday, not sure if she will be able to help or not.....

Oh, yeah, I know paying out of pocket can be tough. My worry would be, however, that leaving it unchecked could make it become worse. It may not be a big deal. Maybe, maybe not. See if the doctor's office can set up a payment plan for you or give you a cash discount. I encourage you to not let this become a chronic or lifelong problem. Good luck to you!

Definitely go get it checked out. That sounds a lot like what happened to me last summer while running. I ended up walking around on it for another 2 weeks before I went to an orthopaedic doctor...and it ended up being a stress fracture that got so bad I needed surgery to put pins it. The Dr. told me I was lucky it hadn't displaced because otherwise I would have needed a full hip replacement. So please don't wait, get checked ASAP!

(Although I am not one to give advice, I think I just reinjured the same hip even with the pins in and haven't called the Dr. yet...haha)
