Lifting 2x week vs 3x week
Long story short I am back to counting calories in healthy manner after inconsistencies, binge eating and some other emotional issues. I have a much better relationship with food and, more importantly, with myself. I have a Ftbit and have the calories set up so I should lose around a pound a week. I walk a lot, work shift…

Question for Women who lift weights
I have been lifting heavy weights using the Stronglifts 5x5 program since January 1st. Prior to that I was using the machines at the gym for about a year on and off. I have lost about 9lbs and inches. My body fat has gone from 35% to 33%. I know I'm making progress and I'm definitely seeing changes in my body that I never…

Losing weight on soft foods
I got braces last week and my mouth is still sore. If I try to eat things that I have to chew very much I end up with terrible sores on the inside of my mouth. I'm not sure how long this is going to last. I am an adult with braces and my orthodontist said that it is much harder for adults to get used to but to try to eat…

Stronglifts and Zumba
Wow, so it has been awhile since I've been on. I stopped lifting weights and plummeted into a full on binge-eating disorder. I have sought help in the form of therapy for the eating disorder but have gained weight and feel so weak and sluggish. I love going to Zumba. It is the only exercise I look forward to and it makes…

Poor girl!
I just came across this video and almost fell out of my chair at work. This girl looks and sounds very young. I'm assuming she is a teenager but I don't know. I would be furious if this was my daughter because this girl is going to hurt herself. Whoever is training her is an idiot. I know this has no relevance.…

Why weights?
I have been lifting heavy weights since January and have seen a pretty decent change in the way my body looks even though I haven't lost any weight. My diet has been crap and I am currently adjusting that because I want to see what is under my fat. Why do bodies look so much better with lifting weights than cardio alone?…

Just got a home gym!
I guess that is what it's called. I haven't checked in here in a while but I'm still plugging along. My diet has been crap the last few months and I have had a few weeks were I haven't lifted anything heavier than my 30 pound daughter. Anywho...My husband just bought a home gym by Nautilus from Craig's List. It is awesome.…

Eating at night (I know meal timing doesn't matter)
I have always been a late night snacker. I just like to munch while I am watching TV. For awhile, I thought I had it under control but it has come back with a vengeance. I eat everything in sight and just say I will start over tomorrow. I wake up feeling like crap both physically and emotionally. My question is since this…

I'm back
So I know I don't post on here too terribly much but I took a two week hiatus from the gym and a week from logging. I went to Vegas for a week and got married!! Monday was my first day back to SL after two weeks and holy hell I am sore this morning. I'm not sure I can do my squats this evening. Anyway, just dropping in to…

Compliment on my squat
I have been stressing over my squat form. I haven't recorded a video because I need my husband to do it and we almost never go to the gym at the same time. Yesterday after I finished my workout I was hanging on the assisted chinup machine and an older man came over to me and asked me where I learned to squat like I did. I…

Sodium
Do you watch your sodium intake? Mine is high most days. I don't feel like I eat a highly processed diet but I think the majority of sodium I consume comes from lunch meat, canned black beans and salad dressing. I don't think I retain much water because of it though.

Question regarding building muscle/reducing body fat
From what I understand on here, it takes a calorie surplus to build muscle. I have a medical background and have never heard that a calorie surplus would be needed for hypertrophy. Isn't hypertrophy going to occur either way? I do know that burn victims need a calorie surplus and copious amounts of protein to heal. I'm a…

Two days in a row
I was wondering if it is possible to do the Stronglifts program on two consecutive days? I have been doing it on Monday and Wednesday because I attend Zumba classes on Thursday and Friday that I don't want to give up. It's not really possible with my schedule to go to the gym on Saturday or Sunday. I would like to…

Skinny Fat
Do you think the term skinny fat is overused or misused? I know it isn't medical terminology but I always interpreted being skinny fat as being in a normal weight range but having a high body fat percentage. I have seen pictures of women that claim to be skinny fat and in their after picture they do appear more muscular or…

I'ma Hurtin!
Excuse the grammar. I was trying to be funny! I started Stronglifts last week and I just completed workout 4. Monday and tonight were the first time I completed to program the way you are supposed to. I find that I am not intimidated in the weights area of my gym and finally figured out how to properly work the power cage.…

Newbie here with diet questions
Hi all. I am planning on starting SL later on today. I have been going to the gym since last October doing Zumba and various other cardio and using the machines to lift weights. I'm really nervous. My DH is going to participate but he is just as clueless as I am about form and such. I've been watching Youtube videos all…

Protein
I am supposed to be getting around 100 grams of protein per day before exercise. How do I get this much in besides eating a god awful amount of chicken breast? I do occasionally use a protein shake but I need some good ideas. Thanks!

For women that lift heavy-question
Sorry if this has been posted, I searched but couldn't find the answer to my question. For women that are strength training (lifting heavy), how much cardio are you doing and at what intensity? We joined a gym a few months ago and I was the cardio queen but wasn't seeing the results that I wanted. I love doing the Zumba…

Overestimating what you should weigh?
When I lost weight a few years ago by eating 1200 calories and little to no exercise I got down to 118lbs. I'm 5'0 and had weighed between 135-148 my entire adult life. Even at 118 I was skinny fat, if you will. I had always thought that 120lbs was my magical number. Now on round two of weight loss after having a baby I'm…

Machines at the gym
This is going to sound completely uneducated but I just joined the gym last week. I had a free session with a personal trainer and he showed me exercises with dumbbells and the bar(not sure what it is called) with weights on the end. Okay so now that I sound like a complete idiot, lol. My gym is split in half with the…

Baby won't stay in the childcare at the gym
I know this isn't directly related to diet and weightloss does anyone have problems with their child staying in the gym daycare? We joined one week ago and the first 3 days my 23 month old was fine. Every day that we have gone to the gym since then she has cried and we have had to pick her up 15-30 minutes after we drop…

Diet Analysis
I'm taking a nutrition course and I had to do a diet analysis project this week. Well....haha. A month ago I had to keep track of my calories on this diet analysis software (it's really cool!) and this week I had to "fix" my diet according to the DASH diet. The DASH diet is generally prescribed to people that have heart…

How to get significant other involved?
My fiance and I have been together for 13 years and we have 2 kids. When we met we were both pretty thin but it was due to alot of drinking and partying. As time progressed we both put on weight but I reached my limit when my daughter was about 6 months old and I've lost 38 lbs. I still have off days or weeks, but I try to…

Is it necessary?
I know this is probably a stupid question, but I'm down to my last 10-15lbs and I'm consistantly losing weight with my 30 min walks, diet and occasional weight lifting. I recently started doing 30 day shred every other day to help build some more muscle. Okay, oops forgot to ask the question :) ......Is it really necessary…

Low sodium marinades and spices
Anyone have good alternatives to the bottled marinades that you find at the grocery store (Lawry's, etc)? The sodium content in the marinades are pretty high, and while I don't use them all of the time I do like the Carribean jerk flavored one and would like an alternative. Also, I'm trying to find a low sodium chili…

Size
Hi all! Just a question about sizes. I have lost 37 lbs (from 163 to 126 and 5 foot) and I know I have gone down in size but my sizes are all over the place. I try on a juniors size 9 and can't get them buttoned but a womans size 6 shorts are too big. I'm 30 and not really ready to dress in womens clothing (no offense) and…

Need good opinion on my exercise cals
Just some background...I am 30 years old 5'0" and currently 129lbs. To date I have lost a total of 34 lbs since last May. I originally had my weight loss goal set to 2 lbs per week and my cals have always been 1200. I have pretty consistently lost 1-2 lbs a week but sometimes I only eat 1000-1200 calories. I consider…

Protein powder?
Can anyone recommend a good protein powder. I'm not too crazy about using protein powder as I feel like it's a "fake" protein but my boyfriend wants me to pick some up tomorrow. I guess I want to try one that doesn't have a bunch of junk or artificial ingredients. Thanks!

I jogged and liked it!
I hate to exercise...I walk 2-3 times a week and occasionally hop on my elliptical and my boyfriend and I just started weights this week but anyway....my boyfriend took our son to his baseball game tonight and took our daughter with him since I have to work tonight so I decided to go for a walk, then decided to jog since I…

33 pounds down!
I want to share this to inspire others but mostly to inspire myself. I have lost 33 lbs total but was about 28 lbs down in the second picture. Good luck, it can be done with hard work and dedication....and a few slips along the way! <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/60821308@N04/5542233604/" title="fat (2) by…
