Is it necessary?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I'm down to my last 10-15lbs and I'm consistantly losing weight with my 30 min walks, diet and occasional weight lifting. I recently started doing 30 day shred every other day to help build some more muscle. Okay, oops forgot to ask the question :)......Is it really necessary to spend 1-2 hours per day working out to see toned muscles once I get to my goal weight? I just don't have the time or the motivation to work out for that long. I read posts about the amount of time people spend working out and I'm in awe!

I have lost all the weight I wanted not exercising at all. I know I should but.....
You will be able to maintain with a healthy diet. Check mine and see if it helps.

I think it just depends on how "toned" you want to be. Muscles take continual toning to maintain their shape.

    Hi!!!

It really depends on your body type and what you are used to... I usually try to walk at least 30 to 45 mins per day especially when I'm school semester. I believe that doing the same type of exercise helps maintain the weight not losing weight. Eating healthier and within your daily calories is the main thing in losing weight.

    Neccessary, No.
But some things will factor in to how easy it will be. Namely genetics. Assuming you have good muscle tone now, and when you finish losing the last remaining wieght and are lean to your liking. You should be able to get by on 45-60 minutes 3-4x week, if your workout intensity is there and you pay attention to your diet.

I would say try to fit in extra movements during your day (taking a farther parking spot so you get to walk, taking the stairs instead of an elevator, walk to the local grocery store instead of driving, etc) to help maintain a fit body. I also invested in ankle and wrist weights (though the wrist weights are a lot more conspicuous, so I don't wear them out and about as much) to help give my every day movements extra potency.

Also, there's a great dvd series called 10 Minute Solutions (I have the kickboxing one, and it's great!) that might be good for you to pick up. Maybe just doing one or two of the 10 minute work outs every couple of days will help. I like these dvd's because if I can't make it to the gym (where there's a kids club for the kids to go to) trying to fit in 10 minutes 3 times a day while the kids are otherwise occupied so I can focus on my work out is so much easier than trying to fit in a one time 30 minute block (usually about half way through either the baby is crying or the four year old is poking at me, sometimes both).

If you maintain a healthy diet, you can maintain a healthy weight, but getting activity in is a big part of that. I did read an article in one of those, what I refer to as, mid-life wife magazines (either First or Woman's World, they're cheap and I have a small attention span) that the most fit women tend to be the ones with the cleanest homes. House work really does burn a lot of calories, so if you move furniture to vacuum, or scrub your kitchen floor, etc it'll help you stay in shape too.
