Teen Bodybuilding for Strength not Show - Weight lifting
My teen is an XC runner. He's in kick *kitten* shape and pretty darn fast (youngest kid but 3rd fastest on XC team). The hs football coach noticed he has a "pretty decent" arm on him and catches just about anything (he throws FB all the time with whoever's around) and that he's crazy fast even for short distances (he used…

My new way to determine short, mid, and long runs
Old scale: Short run: 3.5 miles or less Mid run: 3.5 - 6 miles Long run: 6 miles or more New scale: Short run: No one almost hits me or tries to run me over. Bicycles don't count because they can't kill me. Mid Run: 1 large vehicle (car, truck, etc.) or 2 small vehicles (motorcycles, scooter, smart cars) almost hits me or…

I envy my teenager because
I eat a couple of crackers before my run and I can feel them swimming around in my stomach. My son can eat 3 fire tacos and 3 loaded grillers and then do a P90x workout 10 minutes later (he's doing that now :noway: . I eat 10 cals over my daily limit and gain weight. He inhales 3000 calories at one time and loses a pound.…

15k relay race
OK. So my kid's school needs a fundraiser. I'm not doing a 5k because, honestly, I don't usually run 5k. The only time I've run 3 miles lately was when my meniscus was swollen and I was wearing a brace. Last year I did enter a couple to run with my son where we ran together (he slows down, I speed up - I can only keep…

Are you happy? Really happy? How happy are you?
I'm so happy that on this day, and this day only, I don't want to punch any of my coworkers in the face.

Exercising through a migraine
Need some suggestions. Had one this morning. Only made it 1.5 miles running before puking and getting so freaking ill. Turned around and came back. Don't have them frequently but when I do, ugh. Any suggestions on homeopathic remedies. Even if I get rid of the pain, the nausea and sluggishness linger... Oh, and while…

To Ms. Know It All Nasty
I'm 43 yo. I had surgery in 2011 and gained a bunch of weight. Took up running to get it off (and to get my health issues under control). I was running about 3 miles in one shot at this time last year. I came on here for advice on what to do before a long run and *someone* posted I was like her, not a "real" runner and…

What is your favorite tea(s)?
I'm really digging the Tazo Zen Green Tea (not Starbucks, but brewed at home), Kalahari Rooiboos, and the ginger lemon mint I got from a lady at work. Would love to try some new ones.

I'm so old...
I thought my bright orange dress with ruffles was groovy and the wonder twins were peachy keen!

If I had a magic lamp and one wish I'd wish for...
I'd like to say world peace but you know I'd be lying. I'd probably wish for as much money and power as the Kennedy family.

Kids - Sports - Coaches - Thank you & Rant
Thank you :flowerforyou: To all coaches who are amazing, THANK YOU bunches. You have made my two sons' and my daughter's lives so much better. They have learned from you - not only the game they were playing but respect, too. You were awesome and we appreciate it more than you know. My 13 yo has started running again…

Need jump rope jingles - keep it clean
I can't remember them from when I was a kid and found myself mumbling military marching ones last night while I was jumping to help keep time. (I'm trying to keep my exercise fun!!) I know I knew more than one but dang if I can think of any others than these. The marching one: ***** cat sat on a sewing machine Sewing…

Adjustments - Who's making them
I'm revising my weight loss goal today from 125 lbs to 118 lbs. I think that will put me in a size 3 or 4 ish. I'm 5'1" and it was my weight in high school. Think it sounds reasonable? For reference when I was running 10 miles a week I weighed about 122 lbs. Per week currently am running 15 miles, walking 12 miles, and…

New Vocabulary
Anyone else notice they have acquired a whole new vocabulary since coming to MFP? Now I know about afterburn, fat blockers, SW, BMR, and HRM's. Lord, I feel so educated. If so inclined, please let me know what new terms you've learned from this site

Thyroid Seaweed Question
What's the best seaweed for hypothyroidism? Best tasting, best acting, whatever you can recommend. And I am being thyroid issues, just doing my due diligence =) Thanks!

Running question about carbs
First, thank you to those who answered my other running question. Due to your input, I lowered my per mile time and increased duration to the tune of 4 miles in 44 minutes (5.2 mph). I'll stick with it for 2 - 3 weeks and then see if I can increase my pace to 5.5 mph, then 2 - 3 weeks after that to 6 mph. I'll probably…

Runners help me set a goal please
ME: 42 yo, 5'1", 133 lbs, female At 16: 7 minute mile for 2 miles - not certain about my long distance time At 28: 8 minute miles for 6 miles Started again 2 months ago. Coming up to speed slowly (very, very slowly I think) Currently I run: 3.5 miles in 38 1/2 minutes or 3.0 miles in 31 1/2 minutes Which is better and…

Figured out my nosebleed
OK, so potassium shortage = hypertension (which I already have so it is more aggravated) = nosebleed on elliptical today. Jeez, so glad I now understand. I was pretty freaked when I realized the cloth I used to wipe away sweat had blood on it. Then further freaked to realize it wasn't a scratch or something but a nosebleed…

Slimmer Versus Lighter
So which do you worry about most, slimmer or lighter. For me, slimmer is da winner (rhyming is uplifting!). I'd rather be a size 4 @ 125 lbs than a size 6 @ 120 lbs.

I'm almost there!!
About Me: 42 yo female standing 5'1", peri-menopause (lucky me), 3 kids total (2 c-sections) I had surgery and then an allergic reaction November last year. Between being "laid up" and the steroids (12 lbs in 2 weeks while on steroids - Wow!) I left my 137 - 138 lbs and bounced up to 155 lbs. Mid-Feb I felt well enough and…

Creepy Guy at Gym
So there's this creepy guy at the gym who's started to work out when I work out. Usually not a big deal but it's sort of starting to freak me out. Here's the deal. My gym is at work so I pretty much go during lunchtime. I start early and this guy shows up after me (no biggie, lots of folks have a schedule they follow for…

Exercise Calorie Afterburn & Metab boost
A recent study by North Carolina researchers showed 45 minutes of intense exercise boosted the metabolic rate in male participants for a whopping 14 hours. This is the site I was reading: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-02-01/health/sc-health-0201-fitness-burn-20120201_1_post-exercise-exercise-scientists-metabolism…

Did you know? (Wealth of Useless Info)
I am often referred to as a wealth of useless information =) . Please feel free to add your own useless facts to this thread!! Kopi Luwak are coffee beans from animal poop. (verified on http://listverse.com/2007/12/17/top-10-incredible-food-facts/) It comes from Civet (a cat sized mammal) poo. The animals gorge on only the…

Working on no scale, no measuring, nada for two weeks
Realized this weekend after I comfortably fit into Coldwater Creek size 4's that maybe I'm a little too worried about stuff that doesn't matter. Especially since my B/P this morning was more awesome than I have seen in a good, long while. So I'm keeping my caloric, dietary, cardio, and work out goals, but no measuring,…

F'd up. Ate way too few cals
Didn't even friggin' realize it because I switched up dinner (I usually eat a protein, 2 whole wheat carb portions, etc.) and accidentally skipped a snack at work cause I was in a meeting. I only intook 776 cals yesterday and I worked off 700. I know many don't understand but I eat ~1k cals a day anyway due to a super slow…

NSV - Calories burned
Started out, burned about 200 a lunch session (35 - 45 minutes of intense cardio). Now I'm burning 375 - 400 a session. Woohoo. More intensity means better fat burn. Still hate the elliptical but am so happy!!

Moving scale = 2 lb weight loss.
Someone moved the scale in the fitness center. I like the new local better. It says I lost 2 lbs in 1 day. Nice, very nice. Also probably, wrong, very wrong =)
