My new way to determine short, mid, and long runs
Options
Old scale:
Short run: 3.5 miles or less
Mid run: 3.5 - 6 miles
Long run: 6 miles or more
New scale:
Short run: No one almost hits me or tries to run me over. Bicycles don't count because they can't kill me.
Mid Run: 1 large vehicle (car, truck, etc.) or 2 small vehicles (motorcycles, scooter, smart cars) almost hits me or runs me over.
Long Run: 2 or more large vehicles almost hits me or runs me over or some moron's dog gets loose and chases me.

I'm with you. When the sun rises almost an hour after my run is over, I come close to getting run over on the regular.
