Fresh 20 users?
Anyone else belong to The Fresh 20 meal planning service? I joined at the beginning of the school year I think and for the most part have been really enjoying the food. I am pretty good in the kitchen, but I had been spending upwards of an hour every weekend sorting through recipes and planning our dinners for the…

Advice on Vivofit 2 sync with MFP
I'm struggling getting my Vivofit 2 to work well with MFP. The calories are all over the place! For example, if you look at my diary from yesterday, It has 0 for the Garmin adjustment, even though I had 18,004 steps. I don't have the HRM, so I don't expect to see specific activity tracking from the Garmin. I added in my…

Parenting/food advice need - 8 year old boy, ADHD
My son is 8, and has gained 13 lbs since last July, while growing only a couple of inches in height. He's now in the 94% for weight, after having been in the 75% since birth. I've had to buy him two new complete sets of pants because the waists are too small. (BTW, if anyone wants to buy size 10 pants in good condition,…

Grip, Forearm, and Lattisimus Strength
Hi All - I'm on my second round of NROL4W. I stopped at the end of Stage 5 last time due to time constraints, and now I am nearly finished with Stage 3. Honestly, I am not happy with the strength gains that I am seeing so far. My deadlifts, lat pull downs, and lunges (all types) are being limited by my grip strength - even…

Groceries!
Oh my gosh - have you guys noticed that groceries in this area are outrageously expensive this summer? I am spending nearly $200/week to feed my family of 4, whereas last year, I was able to keep my bill around $125. Needless to say, my salary has not increased enough to cover that difference :-( Our eating habits haven't…

Splitting up Weight Training
I know there are some real experts out there on weight training, so I'd like to get your opinion on something. I am currently doing NROL4W (no judging please, everyone has a fave program), and of course each day has a certain # of different lifts to do, as well as # of sets & reps. Due to work & family schedules, I'm…

How do I become a swimmer?
I belong to the Y, which has both indoor and outdoor pools - the idea of swimming for exercise is enticing for sure! The problem is... I can't swim. I know I took swim lessons for at least 6 years as a kid, but I never was able to master rotary breathing. I'm a little claustrophobic, and I think having my face surrounded…

Favorite Gym Looks for larger ladies?
I see so many cute fitness tanks that I would love to wear! Many of them do come in a size XL, but they are designed so that your bra shows. This works great if you are a 34 B and can wear those cute brightly-colored compression type sports bras. At a size 38DD though, sports bras are white, underwire beasts with wide…

How sore is too sore?
I completely overdid it on squats and step-ups on Tuesday, and my quads are aching today. I have been hydrating like crazy, and I took an anti-inflammatory prescription last night, and I still can barely get myself out of a chair or up the stairs. Should I take another one and work out tonight (different routine - leg work…

Another Squat Question!
Something has been feeling a little "off" with my squats and deadlifts, so I just watched the Stronglifts videos to make sure they my form is where it should be. Turns out my deadlifts are okay, but I may be lifting just a touch too heavy, I'm going to back-off and work on keeping my back more neutral. Squats though - the…

Well Beyond a Plateau
I have been an MFP member for a couple of years now. Sometimes I am very diligent, other times not so much. But... I haven't lost any significant amount of weight in over a year. I have tried changing my exercise routine, and have both increased and decreased my calories, with no results. Not in size or weight. For the…

NROLFW: What would you do after a hiatus?
Hi all - I was working through NROLFW last year. It took me much longer than expected to finish Stage 5, and then I took about 6 weeks off to get throught the holidays and 3 birthdays! In 2013, I was going to switch to cardio only, since I am not getting the fat loss results that I desire from lifting. However, I stepped…

Stage 2 & 4 Tried this - OMG the burn!
The Y was super-crowded Saturday morning, and I only had 90 minutes of babysitting, so I had to get through my workout (Stage 4, Workout A) asap. There was nowhere available to set up a step to do the static lunge with rear foot elevated, so I grabbed a BOSU to put my rear foot on, and did it in the middle of the floor. I…

What do you pack that is better than the school lunch?
There is a very interesting topic ongoing about the new gov't guidelines for school lunches, and many parents have said that they are switching to packing their kids lunches. I have packed my kids lunches for years for daycare, and have always been able to send "heat-ups", which are typically the healthy leftovers from…

Turkey Breast on MFP - really?!
So I just looked up Turkey Breast in the food database and the first entry I came to has 366 confirmations - yay! Then I looked to see the serving size and it says "1 serving"... WTF? How did 366 people confirm without knowing the portion size? Don't mind me.. this is just a rant. I'll go find another entry for turkey…

Need help using BF calipers
I know one of you fitness experts will be able to help with this :-) I bought the MetaCal body measurement calipers, and I'm not sure how to get the reading from the front of my thigh. There is not a lot of fat there, so if I try to pull up a skin flap, I'm pretty sure I'm getting some muscle too. Does anyone have an…

Delicious Strawberry Salad Dressing
This is a great way to use up strawberries that are past their prime. It makes four 1/4 cup servings, which is a lot! For a small salad, you could use a lot less. 1 C quartered strawberries 1 T olive oil 4 t balsamic vinegar 1/4 t salt pinch of black pepper 48 calories per serving Puree until smooth. Add a little water if…

Front Squat Push Press - How Heavy?
I did my 3rd workout of 2A yesterday, and was not able to complete 2 full sets of the FSPP with only 55 lbs. I feel so wimpy! Am I expecting too much here? How much can you load up for this lift?

Stage 2: Pulled Muscle - What would you do?
I pulled some muscle in my back - I'm not sure which one it is , but somewhere in the area of the latissimus dorsi. I overworked it doing the Cuban Snatch last week, and the next day I went to pick up a pile of laundry and felt it go. I have been resting it for over a week now, and am still in pain. I really want to get…

Cheap Sneakers?
My trainers are shot, AND I would like to get a part of Chuck Taylors for lifting, but I am broke! I have a very finicky back, which does really well with Asics trainers. I wear them for pretty much everything except while I'm at work. Anyone know of any great online deals right now, or a place where I can get Asics and/or…

Anyone maintaining at a deficit?
I am nearly through Stage 1 and have been eating at the 300 calorie deficit as calculated in the book. I have lost NOTHING. Not a lb, not an inch, nothing. I have a slightly more fit appearance, but nothing astonishing. Has anyone else experienced this?

Mods for Deadlift? Also info about lunges.
Last night I did Workout 2B and nearly killed myself trying to do deadlifts with only 10lbs added to the bar. I think part of the issue is that the bar is so close to the floor. If I was lifting more like 100 lbs, the plates would keep the bar off the floor by several inches. Has anyone tried any modfications to these?…

NROLFW - Getting Started
Hi all! Frustrated by my outrageously slow metabolism, I bought NROLFW, planning to begin the program the week after Easter. I have read the entire book, but can't seem to get myself started. The problem is somewhat logistical - how do I manage carrying a log sheet and pictures of all the exercises, while trying to do them…

Whey Protein Powder
So I have resigned myself to the fact that there is no way I'm going to eat over 100g of protein per day without a supplement. I tried adding some powdered milk to my coffee - ew gross!!! I hope the protein powders taste a little better. Which ones have y'all tried, and what were your experiences?

Anything else like running?
The idea of running really appeals to me. The passion that I see other people have for running draws me in. The fact that you need nothing except yourself and your sneakers - I'm totally into that. However, every time I attempt a running program, I just hate it. It hurts my shins to the point that I cannot walk the next…

Scale Mischief
So, we all know that bathroom scales are frenemies to those who use them regularly. BUT... it just occurred to me that the kitchen scale and the bathroom scale are in cahoots! You get on the bathroom scale and think, I cannot possibly be that big. I will work harder on MFP, I will make sure I have the right portion sizes…

Need help with meal/snack ideas for my son (kindergarten)
I need some ideas for snacks and lunches that I can pack for my 6 year old son. I feel like there are so many constraints on what I can pack/what he will eat, that I am out of healthy options: - No heatups allowed - No peanut butter or nuts for snacks, okay for lunch - He likes raw cucumbers, but that's about it in the raw…

Birthday Lunch Treat
I'm working on my birthday - total bummer. Would like to go out to lunch for something tasty, without blowing my day. I can afford about 400 calories for lunch. Thoughts? Nearby we have: Panera, Qdoba, Wendy's McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC, DQ...
