Breakfast ideas
I am looking for some breakfast ideas. I eat my breakfast at work and usually have yoghurt and fruit or porridge, and very occasionally I take hard boiled eggs. Any ideas of what I can take to work for breakfast?? I am looking for high protein, low carb ideas which will satisfy me unil lunch. FYI - I have access to a…

ON - Gold Standard or Lean Whey?
I am looking to try out a new protein shake. I have heard great things about Optimum Nutrition (and my other half takes it and swears by it) so would like to try it but I can't decide whether to get Gold Standard 100% Whey or the Lean Whey. The price isn't an issue as they are quite similar. Lean Whey obviously has the…

Pedometer app to link to MFP (Android)
Does anyone know of a good pedometer app I can download that I can sync to MFP? I have tried Runtastic but will only work when my phone screen is on, which will drain the battery really fast. Also tried Striiv and Accupedo but they don't sync properly and the estimates Accupedo give are less than MFP so doesn't log…

Whey Isolate recommendations (available in UK)
I currently drink MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate. I have been pretty happy with it so far in terms of results but I have been disappointed with the last couple of batches - the taste and texture is very inconsistent. So I'm looking for recommendations for Whey Isolate from a different brand/manufacturer. Before anyone asks…

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard flavour recommendations
I am looking to try ON Gold Standard Whey. But they have SO many flavour options I'm finding it hard to choose! I usually go for vanilla with protein shakes, but ON even have 2 vanilla flavours!! I don't mind chocolate flavours but as I have a shake so early in the morning I don't really like the idea of chocolate so…

Was doing so well...then I got sick...
I was doing so well with changing my body comp and reducing BF%. But then 2 weeks ago I was struck down with a bladder and kidney infection, which really screwed me up. I was off work for just over a week and couldn't do anything (anyone who's had a kidney infection would understand) so was stuck in the house the whole…

Vitamin D dosage
I'm looking at taking vitamin D supplementation along with the CLA I currently take. I have been told by certified sports nutritionist, Rehan Jalali, that taking vitamin D alongside CLA has health benefits and will support my plan and goals. My question is (which I regret not asking him when I met him) what dosage of…

'Healthy weight' petite females who transformed their body
Are there any petite females who have transformed their body through lifting weights? I'm looking for some motivation. How did you do it? Diet? Workout routine? How long did it take? I'm ~125lbs, 5"3 and looking to 'tone' up to no longer be 'skinny fat'. Would love to see some success stories and photos!

Hands keep slipping with deadlifts...grrr
I've started doing compound lifts to make the most out of my workouts. I also use free weights (I don't use the machines) so I purchased a pair of lifting gloves for grip and wrist support. The gloves seem to be fine with every exercise but when I do deadlifts, particularly when I start adding weight to the 20kg bar my…

Proud - thought I'd share
My boss decided to bring in a large box of cronuts into the office. For those of you who don't know, a cronut is a cross between a croissant and a doughnut and they are AMAZING!! I have to walk past them every time I go to the kitchenette/toilet. So I decided to go and buy myself a bag of salt/sweet popcorn (138kcals),…

Issues with grip when doing deadlifts
I have purchased a pair of lifting gloves for grip and wrist support. The gloves seem to be fine with every exercise but when I do deadlifts, particularly when I start adding weight to the 20kg bar my fingers slip so I can't do more than about 8reps, reducing to about 3 on my final set. It's really frustrating as my body…

This trainer has no idea - rediculous
So last night I met with a friend for dinner and we were talking about exercise and food (as you do). She works out with a trainer every week and I was pretty shocked at what she told me... 1) Her trainer has banned her from eating ALL carbohydrates and the only dairy she is 'allowed' is cottage cheese?! I asked her where…

What's my activity level?
Hi all, I'm new to this group but so glad I found it! :) I started on this new 'lifestyle change' at the beginning of the year and despite loads of research and reading through the forums I'm still a little stuck when it comes to calculating my TDEE. My stats are as follows: Female 5"3 125lbs 24yo I currently lift weights…

Tasty porridge ideas?
I love my morning porridge. I have it everyday on weekdays and some weekends. My favourite is to add cinnamon and raisins. I also like to simply add some jam. I also add low calorie sweetner to add flavour. I am looking for other ideas that are equally (if not more!) tasty. I take and cook my porridge at work in the…

High protein diet has similar cancer risks than smoking?!
Thought I would share this with you as it both shocked and humoured me... I was driving to the gym this morning when the news came on the radio. Apparently a study in America has revealed that diets high in animal protein, specifically red meat, eggs and dairy, increases the risk of death from cancer and diabetes fourfold…

Advice needed - full body or isolated strength training?
I am female, 5'3, 125lbs, ~23% BF. I'm not necessarily concerned with how much I weigh, to me it's more about how I look and being physically healthy. Essentially I want to lose my belly fat (who doesn't?!) and tone/build muscle. I have started lifting weights 3 x week and attending 2 fitness classes a week (always…

Another TDEE question...(sorry!)
I've visited a number of sites to calculate my TDEE and they are all punching out different numbers. I exercise 5 x a week (3 x weight training and 2 x cardio). Do I still set my activity as moderate (3-5hrs a week) or light as my cardio only consists of about 2 hrs a week?

Petite females...
Hi, I'm looking for some inspiration and advice from petite female (I'm 5'3) who have had success at losing weight as well as toning muscles? How did you do it? How many calories? What was your workout? Needing a bit of guidance and what to see if I'm on the right lines. Thanks!!

Am I on the right lines?
Hi all. Firstly my stats: Female 5"3 125lbs I am looking to reduce my body fat and gain a little muscle. I'm not too worried about the numbers on the scale as I know muscle is more dense than fat, so lifting weights may cause my weight to stay roughly where it is. I have calculated my BF% and it is roughly 25%. I would…

Confused - Calorie deficit but I'm gaining muscle??
I keep hearing that when in calorie deficit you will not really build muscle, as calorie surplus is needed to 'bulk'. I'm eating 1400-1550 calories per day and do strength training 4 times a week and I'm finding that I am building muscle, especially my arms and shoulders. Does this mean I am eating too many calories…

Porridge help.
So I'm trying to find healthier, more nutritious breakfasts that keep me going so I would like to have a go at porridge with cinnamon and raisins. My problem is all the instant porridge, where you just add water/milk, available in my local supermarket are very high in sugar. Does anyone know of any organic, no added salt…

Should I be logging exercise?
I exercise 5-6 times a week - a mixture of strength training and cardio in the form of exercise classes. I have calculated my TDEE (1560kcal) so have set this on MFP. Should I log my exercise each day and eat NET of 1560kcal or eat a total of 1560kcal regardless, i.e. whether it's a training day or rest day? I am concerned…

How many calories should I be eating?
I'm really not sure if I am eating enough calories...I'm 5"3' and about 124lbs. I have a relatively sedentary desk job and train 6 times a week - Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday strength training and 2 exercise classes a week. I have tried calculating my TDEE and deducting 500 calories to lose 1lb of fat per week,…

Low fat, low calorie turkey meatloaf
So I LOVE mince, but having beef or lamb mince several times a week isn't the most sensible of things, especially when trying to keep calories and saturate fat down. My answer - turkey breast mince. You can do exactly the same thing with turkey mince as you can with traditional red meat mince (bolognese, burgers, meatball,…
