This trainer has no idea - rediculous

So last night I met with a friend for dinner and we were talking about exercise and food (as you do). She works out with a trainer every week and I was pretty shocked at what she told me...

1) Her trainer has banned her from eating ALL carbohydrates and the only dairy she is 'allowed' is cottage cheese?! I asked her where she gets her energy from for her workouts and she couldn't tell me. I told her it wasn't sustainable because it's not like she will continue this diet for the rest of her life...but her trainer "knows best".

2) Her trainer wants her to lose a stone (14lbs) in 10 weeks - that's 1.4lbs a week?! Obviously I told her it's much healther, and sustainable, to lost closer to 0.5lbs a week for sustainable weight loss based on what she has left to lose. Her response...*shrugs*.

It really is true what some people say about some trainers having no clue. My friend may lose weight but what are the chances of her keeping it off?!!?!

Some people just want a quick fix.

You and I who (feel) we know better can not tell someone who is in this mindset.

On second thoughts this kinda sounds like extreme paleo and some people do just fine with it? She could still be eating 1500 cals of fats, proteins and veggies? I would miss butter and potatoes too much though.... also cheese

Not surprised I'd more more surprised if a trainer gave good and accurate nutrition advice.

You'll never be able to convince her otherwise, she'll have to learn for herself (probably the hard way).

I have a couple of friends like this, I'll give my opinion and then drop the subject, if they won't listen to the doctors and the trainers they're unlikely to listen to me (same way as I'm unlikely to listen to them when they think I should use a juice detox diet), one friend has arthritus in both knees and has been advised by several doctors and our trainer that she shouldn't be doing bootcamps and running on a regualr basis but should be looking at swimming/aqua-jogging/yoga etc to reduce the impact on her knees but she ignores all this advise, takes painkillers and carries on (I just wonder what will happen in 20years if she continues, she'll probably be in a wheelchair unable to walk and not be able to enjoy herself).
Another one wants to lose weight so asked if I thought going to a dietician would be helpful (we have a trained dietician within our trainers company that will do a meal plan for you), I said yes I though a meal plan would work for her (she's technophobic so myfitness pal wouldn't be used), next question was 'do you think I would have to stick to it religiously'.......well if you want the results then yes.
Got a bit grumpy yesterday with her and told her that if it was easy to lose weight and keep it off then we would all be a size 8 and obesity wouldn't be a global problem, losing weight and keeping fit takes effort and dedication and for the majority of us isn't easy!!!

I would suggest not even asking what the trainer says as you will just get frustrated and nothing changes anyway!!
