CPAP and physical changes
I got a CPAP in late autumn. Took a while getting all the settings right, bed setup optimal, right mask, blabla. And then I started noticing changes. Not getting up at night to go to the can, awesome. Clothes getting tighter, not awesome. Checked the scale. 5 lb up. So I had to think about it. I suddenly realized that my…

Stylish clothes for mature women
I'm getting to the phase of life where the cute little outfits modeled on 20 year olds aren't really looking right on me anymore, but I also don't want to wear shapeless polyester sacks in giant floral prints and such. On top of that, I have to watch how much I spend. Thrifting has been rather difficult because of its hit…

Doctor wants me to try low fat plant based diet. Very difficult, need resources.
I'm type 2 diabetic. Used to be prediabetic, but it got worse. The metformin stopped working so I went back to the doctor and she wants me to try 30 days of a vegan low fat diet. I thought it wouldn't be hard to find resources online but boy was I wrong! There are too many criteria to meet at once. Low fat and vegan and…

50 plus loss of strength, attempting comeback
OK so last year I just kept getting sick and hurt, I guess it was a year of many viruses, and I deconditioned very badly. It is worse than similar times in the past as I am 51 years old now, and I am very dismayed at how difficult the formerly easy exercises now are. I am working to get my strength back (carefully, so as…

Drop nicotine/quit vaping, receive water retention?
I was vaping a very light nicotine mixture (but vaping a lot). I decided to quit because I was annoyed by the sticky glycerin residue being left on my belongings. Immediately upon quitting I gained 3 lb. This 3 lb has stayed with me for a week now. I know about the typical quitting nicotine/gaining weight issue so I…

Update (diabetes diet)
So for anyone who remembers, my primary care doctor had tried me on a vegan diet as a way to control diabetes. That was a disaster and sent my blood sugar up high. I went to an endocrinologist to find out specifically what was going on. It turns out that with my issue, having type 2 diabetes, I do produce insulin but I…

help getting membrane off boiled eggs please
I peel boiled eggs under running water, yet sometimes that membrane still will not come off. I hate it. It squeaks under my teeth. Does anyone have a foolproof, or even just fairly reliable way to get rid of this stupid membrane without ripping off half the eggwhite also?

mystery forearm pain on elliptical
Trying to figure out what I need to change here. I've been using an elliptical for most of my cardio for like 7 years now with no problems. Just for the past couple months, my forearms will hurt while using the elliptical. Not in the carpal tunnel region, it's on the outside of the arm, the thickest part of it. I have no…

Hooray, I screwed up....
Went through a time of arthritis flares and depression. Gained back 20 lb. BLAH. Now I gotta go back and lose it off again. Feeling very stupid. Went for a walk on lunch break, scheduled gym with husband tomorrow. Logging food again. *headdesk*

looking for low cal veggie dishes and salads
A little background: I'm short and 48 years old and hypothyroid so I only get 1200 cals. This has led me to the repetition of garden salads with low cal dressing and bowls of plain old green beans with salt because I'm not terribly creative. It's starting to make me really crabby. So I could use some new ideas. Anybody…

In search of a new protein powder
EAS reformulated LEAN 15 into AdvantEdge. Bleurgh! What a nasty surprise! What used to be a lovely chocolate shake now tastes like (words I can't put here). I don't have the best income and need something affordable that doesn't A. taste like mashed butt and B. doesn't cost more than I can pay. So we're talking 20 to 25…

big setback
OK so I was away from here for several months because I caught this horrible virus. The doc said it wasn't the flu but the symptoms were very similar and it just. kept. relapsing. Every time I would try to get back on track, sick again, fever and all. Nothing on the bloodwork etc to show anything other than a virus. Doctor…

Hi! I'm back! I had the flu.
So I was sick for 3 weeks! I did have my flu shot but this time it just didn't work. I was probably already infected before I got the shot. I'm finally back to the gym. I'm a bit afraid to step on the scale just yet... I always gain when I'm sick. :X seems a bit backwards no? lol. Well, back to life lol. Watch out for the…

Hair magically turns curly at age 40?
So yeah this happened to me and I want to see if it happened to anyone else at some point in their lives. I'm 48 now. I formerly had mostly straight hair with some large cowlicky waves that had to be flat-ironed out so I didn't look like a slob. But around age 40 my hair texture started to get wavier and at this point it…

Shoulder Development
Here I am again with more questions! lol. So I am having difficulty with developing my shoulders. Everything else is coming along nicely, but my shoulders are still embarrassingly weak. I must be missing something that I should be doing. I would love to get some advice here. Thanks all!

Packaging inaccuracies
So we know that the calories per serving listed on food packaging is often not correct. So we weigh our foods to calculate the calories per gram or ounce instead. Here is my question: That same label that's not right about calories per serving, is it also not telling us the correct number of calories per ounce or gram? To…

working out with chronic wrist problems
I went to my doctor last week because my arthritic wrists are a disaster. There is also a ganglion cyst on the left one. Lifting hurts, yoga hurts, you name it, it hurts. The left one also swells up. I was using an ACE bandage to compress and support it but after any type of workout it was still horribly painful. The…

Proper form for leg press?
What's the proper form for using a leg press? such as, how close do I move the seat to the foot plate, and how do I position my feet on the foot plate relative to my knees/hips? I want to avoid hurting my knees any worse than they already are lol. Thanks!

Leg development
I am unsure if the leg press works only the front of the legs, or also gets the back. I have really bad knees so I am not doing weighted squats yet, until the doc tells me my knees are stable enough. I am trying to make sure I develop my hamstrings and not just my quads. I welcome suggestions. Thank u!

Home gym on a budget
Okay, at the end of the summer we're moving out of this complex to an actual house. No more free gym. So I plan to create a home gym downstairs. Now I am on a fairly tight budget so it's gonna be all about freecycle and Craigslist, snapping up things that others are selling off cheap because they didn't use it. What kinds…

two moves in 3 months + no gym access = 10 lb to lose back off.
Yep. We were supposed to move into a house and it wasn't ready. We had to find temp accommodations and then move AGAIN when the house was ready. All this driving around and chaos, and we had no gym access for those 3 months. I put 10 lb back on! Clothes are tight.... not happy! So now that we are finally established, we…
