What odd or interesting things have you seen or found during your rides?
Over the years I've seen or found some interesting things. Most recently, just 2 days ago I found an iphone in the bike lane. It was dead but went home and charged it and it had service so I waited for a call, the owner called and I answered and they came and picked it up. They were very thankful. Other things I've found…

Anyone here still riding?!?!
LOL! Only rode two 100 mile century rides this year. Last year I did at least five. Already signing up for a few 2018 events so I can 'keep my focus' through the off-season! Definitely signing back up for Zwift in November.

Anyone use the MapMyRide app for recording rides? Are you having GPS problems?
This is the service I've been using for the past 3 years and over the past month it's been dropping and losing signal. Since yesterday afternoon it's basically sharted the bed and won't locate. This was during a cloudless sky yesterday... the odd part is on the map, it shows my general area but won't pinpoint. I'm beyond…

Looking for guidance upgrading to 105 groupset
I have the opportunity to upgrade from my low end Tiagra/Sora combination and could use some help in the decision making from groupset specs to vendor. I think I've pestered Mark enough. My intention is to go all Shimano 105. Here are my requirements... 175mm crankset 31.8mm band-on front derailleur I was looking at…

I'd like to extend a limited offer to the CPC group.... Free UCI Richmond 2015 shwag.
Got a call from my club friend saying his buddy had a metric shite ton of merchandise left over from Richmond 2015 and he was practically giving away, and he was. (why he sat on the stuff and waited 6 months to push a clearance sale, I have no clue) Pretty much everything $1 or less. Here is 'most' of what I got for under…

Anyone here have the Garmin magnetless speed sensor? Mine are giving me a fit!
I have 2 Garmin magnetless speed sensors and both are giving me a fit with connectivity. My Garmin Edge 500 and Zwift are detecting repeated signal drops. Sometimes like 2 or 3 times within a 10 second span. I un-paired/re-paired, changed the effing expensive batteries, all to no avail. Wondering if I should send Garmin a…

Here's my UCI Road World Championships review with video and photos
UCI World Championship Cycling here in Richmond, VA has come to an end but it was an amazing week of over 1,000 world class riders from 75 different countries along with over 650,000 spectators that came through Richmond without any incidents or hiccups. The course had various start locations but all ended in downtown…

Ever seen an rubber anaconda choking out a cassette? Well here is your chance... *RAW FOOTAGE*
Excuse my snarky title... this happened to me during my commute home yesterday... riding along and then KAPOW! shotgun blast blow out. Pulled right over, no crash (thankfully). The tire slipped off the left side of the wheel. Took everything apart yesterday. No broken or loose spokes, wheel still true, but also pitted,…

Tips & suggestions for a first time century rider?
A little back story.... I am a commuter. Have been for 3 years and it's how I get my exercise without it cutting in to my evenings. Obviously with commuting, I ride alone. So basically I have limited myself to these short distance rides between 7-9 miles to work and about 5 hours later for lunch I ride 13-14 miles back…

Can we talk about saddles? Pretty sure I need to change mine up.
Road bike. Was just fitted a few weeks ago. At the time I felt like my current saddle was the right fit, even with having developed a few sores I was able to treat myself. It's the same saddle I've used for the past 3,000 miles. I've tried about 5 different saddles, most from the bike purchase and not an individual…

Just got a road bike. Already had 2 flats. Is being overweight a factor?
I just got a road bike almost 2 months ago. I had it on the trainer just fine but now I am hitting the road, I've sprung 2 leaks on the rear tire in just as many weekends. Disheartening to say the least. I weigh around 285 lbs. The bike is a 64cm Motobecane Grand Record with Continental UltraSport tires. I had the bike &…

Finally getting a bike fitting done next week. Any do/don't I should be aware of?
After 3+ years of serious seasonal cycling I got my first RB & KK trainer early this year and at first I felt stretched out on it. I watched some fitting videos on YT. Adjusted my saddle height & the fore/aft. Flipped my stem (angle up) and put the spacers underneath to help lift the handlebars and bring them closer.…

Are you attending/competing in the Richmond 2015 World Road Cycling Championships?
In a few months this will all be happening 15 minutes from me and I couldn't be more excited. Curious if there are any MFP'ers that are planning to attend or compete in one of the events? Me personally, I'll only be doing the Conquer the Cobbles ride that's open to the public. Can't miss the chance to ride the streets of…

About to buy a fluid resistance trainer, suggestions?
I've never tried indoor riding but I'd rather go 'all-in' than to get a sub par trainer just to be unhappy with it and need to upgrade soon after. Considering my scrappy bikes in the past before I got serious, I doubt I will have issues with adjusting to the feel of a trainer. I seem to be almost sold on the Kurt Kinetic…

Buying a new bike but stuck on two styles. Help me decide?
Some of you know I had a terrible crash the other week and ended up in the ER getting 45 stitches along my eyebrow. The MTB bike is now junk so I am looking at going Hybrid or Cyclocross as I mostly commute to work 20 miles round trip and often take <30 mile rides. I hardly go off road but always want the option to ride…

Road bike frame suggestions for extra tall riders?
While I wait for my Diamondback MTB frame to get warranty replaced I am looking to purchase a road bike, which I have very little experience with. Can someone suggest manufacturers that cater to the tall riding community? It's gotta be on the lower end < 1000. From what I have been reading, manufacturer frame size has very…

Annoying loud creaking coming from my front chainrings
I think I have a bigger issue here that I will address very soon but over the past few days my bike has developed a creaking sound coming from the chain rings, crank or pedals. When I stand and pedal under stress, it goes away. I don't believe it's the pedals because I took them off and do not notice any signs of damage or…

Difference in calorie spending between MMR & MFP
I have MMR app linked to MFP and after my ride to work this morning, Once updated, I noticed MFP had a high amount of calories spent for just a 27 minute ride. I checked MMR app and it showed a spend of 787 calories for 'Road Cycling' even though I am on a MTB with slicks (I chose that exercise 'type' on purpose).…

I need some urgent help with buying a rear 29er wheel
In short, I've broken 3 spokes in as many weeks just from street riding. My LBS said I def need a new 'stronger' rim so I am shopping on Amazon but have zero experience with the intricacies of buying a new wheel so I'll list what is currently on there. Diamondback SL7 Aluminum Alloy Double Wall 700c x 28/38C ETRTO 662 x 20…
