Water intake in the summer
I don't know if any of you are doing any of the water drinking challenges right now, but please, be careful if you are. If you are drinking upwards of a gallon of water a day, exercising, and sweating more because of the heat, and on top of that, limiting your amount of salt intake, you are setting yourself up for a very…

Time to Stop Pumping
I don't completely know how I feel about this, relief, sadness, freedom... The time has come to stop pumping. He just isn't nursing enough and pumping every few hours is too much now. He is 9 months and I'll continue to nurse him at night, in the morning and on weekends. When he is away from me, he will have a little bit…

General Workout Questions
I am working on building up my new routine with a new baby in the house. I have been fully cleared for exercise, so there is no issue there. I like to do a combination of weights and cardio, and am now struggling to fit them in my schedule. The baby still isn't sleeping well most nights, so I am going to bed pretty early…

How to fix the family
I read an article this morning written by a family of the Catholic faith, but I don't believe that this article reflects what Catholics or other Christians believe. Basically, they believe that women should not go to college or work because it is beneath them and that women should stay home, marry, have kids, homeschool…

Freinds Daughter Gluten Intolerant
My friend's young daughter has just been diagnosed with gluten intolerance. Does anyone have some kid friendly recipes that I can pass on?

Regaining Strength
I had my third c-section 7 weeks ago. I have been cleared to resume normal activities and was warned to take it slow getting back into working out. I know that I am not ready for compound lifts yet as I can't even get good form on an unweighted squat. My struggle at this time is strength and flexibility. Do you have any…

U.S. New Moms - Laws about breast pumps and insurance
Moms in the U.S. - If you didn't know, starting in January of this year, Obamacare requires that breast pumps are covered under insurance. It doesn't specify what kind of pumps have to be covered though. For my first two children, no pumps were covered at all. Now, a manual pump is covered at 100%, and with a prescription…

New to Group
I wanted to share my birth story, but I didn't want to put it in the still-expecting group. Everything turned out great, but I don't want to give anyone in that group any pre-delivery jitters that they don't already have. I am 37 years old and have two older boys. Both of them were born by c-section, and the first one was…

C-section decision
I am a third time mom. I'll be 37 on Wednesday. Both of my previous children are c-sections, and my doctor told me he would be willing to let me try a vbac under very strict guidelines and he estimates my success rate at about 15%. Knowing that I can't have an induction, I was originally thinking of scheduling a c-section…

Braxton-Hicks
When did you start feeling them? I have been getting some pretty strong ones, usually mid-morning and early evening for a few weeks now. I am 25 weeks. I don't remember getting them like this with my first two, but that was a while ago, so maybe I just forgot. I plan to bring it up in my appointment Monday. Just wondering…

Pregnancy Milestone
For each of my pregnancies, this week has always given me a lot of relief. This is week 24. This is the week that doctors consider him a viable child. If he were to be born today, he would get life saving treatment. It would still be a long shot, and there would still be a lot of potential issues if he were born today. For…

Baby Wearing
I was getting pretty upset that I couldn't find my Maya wrap for this baby. Yesterday, I found it. I used it to breastfeed while shopping, cooking, walks, even all the way up to toddler age I was able to use it. I would really recommend that anyone breastfeeding or planning on baby wearing, look into this or something…

We're having a .....
Boy! Our third son! I also talked to the doctor today about the chances that I could have a VBAC since my first 2 were c-sections. He said we could try under some very strict parameters, that I am comfortable with. Since I have never had a labor that progressed, he is giving me a 15-30% chance of VBAC, which, according to…

Right to Work Legislation
Michigan is about to become the 24th state that has passed right to work legislation. Basically, joining a union or paying union dues can no longer be a requirement for a job. This is causing quite a stir in the state and is dividing families - even mine. Some are saying this is a huge blow to unions while others are…

Clearance Bras
I just wanted you all to know that I got 6 bras for under $30 on the clearance racks at JCPenney and Kohl's. If you are experiencing some 'growth' like I am, it is the perfect time to find some brand name bras for very cheap.

Feeling the Baby!
I have been feeling the little flutters for a while now. For the last two days though, I have been feeling the first real 'big' movements! Unfortunately, this baby likes to kick in the same spot as my first - the big red 'bladder - make her run for the bathroom' button!

Bronchitis.....
Being sick and pregnant stinks! Add that I am allergic to penicillin and they really don't want me to take the antibiotics I am not allergic to. I feel like I am going to cough my lungs out! I just really want some sleep!

Funny Pregnancy Stories
I thought it would be fun to share some of the more interesting stories of pregnancy and childbirth. I have one that at the time horrified me, but I laugh about it now.... When I was pregnant with my first son, I think every woman in my office was pregnant as well. There was a continual line of pregnant women waiting for a…

Dog Lovers/Experts
I have a rescue dog from a shelter that we got when she was around a year old and she is now close to 2 years old. She is a German Shepherd/Boxer mix. The people who owned her before us lived in an apartment and pretty much kept her in a cage all the time. They had issues with her jumping up to steal food from counter…

Carpal Tunnel Flare Up
I have mild Carpal Tunnel Flare Ups occasionally, especially when the weather changes a lot, and it definitely has been doing that around here lately. My left wrist is now very achy and weak during this flare up. I also just stopped taking a medication that seemed to aggravate it a little as well. I would really like to…

Muscle Gains
I see a lot of posts on this site where people will say something like: 'Don't worry, you aren't losing weight because you are gaining muscle' Followed by: 'You can't gain muscle <that quickly><in a deficit>' Question 1: Assuming a newbie lifter, deficit or not, how much is a realistic gain for muscle and over what time…

More weight exercises
I am on my second week of Stage 1. I'd really like longer strength workouts on my weight days. The 5 exercises as part of this stage are less than what I wanted a day. I mean, come on, I bought all this fancy new weight equipment for my house  . Does anyone do more weight exercises on weight days that what is in the…

'I Can't Do It'
We have all been there, at that 'I can't do it' moment. You know, that moment when your brain decides for you that you aren't (smart, fast, strong, good) enough to do whatever you are getting ready to try. That moment when your brain tells you that you.just.cant.do.it. This morning I had one of those moments. I saw the…

C-section/abdominal surgery exercise
You might want to try this exercise. It is the first one that I have done where I can actually feel those lower muscles below the c-section line. I can't speak of results yet, but I do know this is activating those lower muscles more than any other core exercise I have tried.

First Day
I have been wanting to try this for so long. I finally got a weight bench and all the weights. I upped my calories to maintenance for the first 4 weeks as suggested in the book (terrifying actually). I did my first work out today. I am so sore. I really hope to see some results. I do really enjoy zumba and yoga on my wii.…
