5"8 what is your goal weight?
I'm 5"8, age 44 and started off at 178lbs. I am currently 148lbs, and my goal weight is 143lbs. Any lower than that and I start to look gaunt and sickly. Anyone here with similar stats and goals? Also, I've been trying to lose these last 5lbs for months, and I keep bobbing around 148, give or take. So very frustrating!!

Heart rate monitor wrist placement?
I have the Fitbit Charge2 which i wear like a regular watch, around 1 finger space above my wrist bone. I have read that when doing intentional exercise that you should place it 2 finger width above the wrist bone. I never really payed attention to this instruction, but decided to try it this morning... Well, my average…

Weighing after going to the bathroom- what does this mean to you?
I know this may be a tad pedantic and possibly TMI, but i need to know what others do... For years, i have gone to the loo, both #1 and #2 while the kettle is boiling for my first cup of coffee of the day, after which i weigh myself. On the odd occasion that i didn't "go" that morning i wouldn't bother weighing that day.…

How to convert mg to % for mfp's food database??
I feel like such a halfwit asking this question... But i get a lot of my nutritional info from the USDA database, where they calculate iron/calcium/vit C etc in mg, whereas MFP uses %. As an example, 100g of raw spinach contains 2.71mg of iron, how do i convert this to the % so i can add/confirm it in the database here?…

Too fat to adopt a child
I just now heard this on the radio. It is incredibly difficult to adopt a child in Australia, and now on top of all that they now want to reject prospective parents for having a too high BMI. A woman actually had weight loss surgery to qualify for adopting. What do you all think of this? ETA: It seems some people cant…

Breastfeeding older kids (over 12mths old)
I regularly read about women breastfeeding their older kids, have things changed since mine were babies? My youngest is 22, and back then night feeds stopped at 8 weeks old which equaled no more waking up at night within a few days, and breast feeding/formula was no longer needed from 12mths old because at that age they…

Healthy Donut? I knew it was too good to be true...
I was recently made aware of a "healthier" and less calorific donut, so of course i just had to try it. If you look on their website the donuts look like a decent size... and have decent macros. So i traipsed miles out of my way to buy these donuts. I finally find them in the store, and was shocked at the size of them,…

Home made Quest bars
Has anyone tried making their own Questesque bars? I can only get hold of the vitafibre in powder form, and it is hard to find recipes using the powder as most use the syrup, so i will have to add water to the powder to create the syrup. I am going to use this recipe which seems deceptively simple.…

Is there a glitch on the MyProtein website?
I didn't know where to post this.. I know there are quite a few members who order their protein powder from Myprotein, and was wondering if you guys are having the same problem. I usually order a 5kg (11lb) bag of whey isolate, but it wont let me select the 5kg option, it keeps reverting back to 1kg. I also had a 5kg bag…

Calculating ham hock in pea and ham soup?
I'm making a pea and ham soup tonight, and the hock i add weighs 1kg (2.2lbs), this obviously includes the bone and fatty pieces that i don't add to the soup. Once it's cooked i shred the meat off, add it back to the soup and discard the bone and fat chunks. So i assume, when i'm adding the recipe into mfp that i only…

Stopped Keto, but still but still having same problem (keto breath)
I didn't quite know how to title this thread... Last year I did keto for 4 mths, but quit due to constant keto breath! My husband commented each and every time he caught a whiff, and it got to the point that I avoided being too close to him as i was so embarrassed. I have always been super meticulous with oral hygiene and…

Fitbit users- Do you start and stop your exercise on the 15 minute mark?
Please tell me I'm not the only person who does this... I like my graph to show mostly green bars, so i always make sure that i start and stop my exercise in the 15 minute blocks of time so that it will ensure a green bar. For example, if it's 2:10pm, i wont start walking till the clock hits 2:15, and won't stop till it's…

Is this yo-yoing?
I have noticed a distinct pattern over the last few years.. Every winter i gain around 6lbs, and lose it again by mid summer. Is this yo-yo dieting? It will be winter again here in a couple of months, and this year I'm going to make a concerted effort to stay in my maintenance range. I would just like to complete one full…

Probiotics- Take on empty stomach or with food?
I've always taken probiotics on an empty stomach, but after googling, the consensus seems to be split down the middle. Some advise taking them with food, others say they work best on an empty stomach. What do you do?

BCAA's - What's the point?
I'm receiving a free bottle of BCAA's in my next protein powder order, but am unsure if i should bother taking them or not. The only exercise i do is walking, no weight lifting. I think i have read that bcaa's tend to make people retain water, I'm already a "water hoarder", i don't need to add more to the mix. My question…

Different words for the same things depending on which country you're in.
I thought it would be fun and interesting to compare our different language/words for the same items depending on which country we're from. I didnt quite know where to put this thread, as there are many non food items in my list. But hey ho here we go. I'll start with what we call it in Australia and try and translate to…

Myprotein protein powder taste??
I'm thinking about buying the chocolate/peanut butter whey isolate and the peanut butter flavour drops. I have heard that Myproteins flavours are very subtle. I was hoping to get some reviews from those of you who have tried these flavours and if they taste as described. Thanks

Psyllium husk- Count carbs and calories or not?
I have 15g psyllium husk powder everyday, which I log. An overwhelming amount of google searching says don't bother counting the calories or carbs as it passes straight through you undigested. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this.. What say you all?

The price of watermelon and rockmelon!
I'm guilty of not paying attention and not checking my shopping docket.. But yesterday i went to the store to pick up a few things and my groceries came to $50. Is anyone going to get the fitbit Alta?
I'm seriously considering it. I have the zip right now, and i'm tired of changing batteries. Plus I like how the Alta automatically picks up exercise, and detects sleep etc etc without me having to press any buttons or manually enter anything. I also never wanted a HR monitor, so the alta seems to be a good fit for me.…

A question for diabetics.
I'm asking this on behalf of my mum and i'm also curious too.. Her brother, my uncle, is a type 2 diabetic, but he lives in Germany so she only gets to talk to him on the phone and also hear only his side of the story.. By his own admission, he eats a terrible diet loaded with sugary foods, lollies, sweets and excessive…
