Why We Get Fat - G. Taubes
Going through this book now. Have already read Good Calories / Bad Calories. If you believe what he has researched and argues........it makes a big part of this site irrelevant. Agree?

Running and Music
I''ve got the idea (I'm sure it's not unique) of downloading music to run to that will match my footfall during the run so that I can better keep a pace. Right now I am jogging at a 5 MPH to 5.2 MPH pace and want to download music that's tempo matches that pace. Anyone know how to convert MPH to BPM (Beats Per Minute)?

Water replacement
Anyone have information on how much fluid you should replace during workouts? I weight before and after and average about 2 lbs. of fluid loss during a workout. I typically don't drink much (if at all) during a workout, but as I stretch the time frames of the sessions, I'm thinking that I need to replace some fluid during…

5K
Ran it today for the first time......not in race form, but that is a goal. I've never run that far before. It took me 38 minutes, but it is a start. I imagine 98 degree weather didn't help anything either.

(2) Small Victories
(1) Ran 3 miles today nonstop. I've never done that before. (2) Noticed today that my thighs don't rub together when walking/jogging. I can't recall how long it's been since that happened.

Beginner Runner
I would like to find some information on becoming a better runner. I've never been much of one, even back in my athletic days. But, I'm determined to run a 5K and need some good pointers. I'd like to evaluate my mechanics a little. Any pointers?

Blood work
A little perpplexed this morning after a follow up doctor visit. Years ago, I tested at 252 total cholesterol. I was overweight, sedentary and ate what I wanted. I started eating healthier a while back and excercising. I went in two months ago and had blood work done and my cholesterol was 206........YEA! ME!. At the time…

A big milestone for me
I've also posted this in the Fitness forum (hope thats not a problem). But I figured I ought to post up this success story as it is a big deal to me.......................... A sincere thanks to those that gave me advice in the "Running endurance" thread. I have always been one to push when working out. I always thought…

Warrior Dash
Anyone? I have made this my fitness goal. I would like some guidelines on what base criteria is necessary to complete this race? I know a 5K is a minimum, but a 5K on pavement is very different from up and down hills, through water, mud, obstacles, etc.

Thank you
A sincere thanks to those that gave me advice in the "Running endurance" thread. I have always been one to push when working out. I always thought that was the way to train. I have been pushing for the past two months to become somewhat of a runner. Something I have never been. I have done interval training as well as…

Running endurance
I have never been a runner......not even as a high school athlete (25 years ago). I never really seemed built for it. I have short stubby legs and my body type is better suited for being a power lifter than a cross country runner. Regardless, I have made it a goal to run, but it has been frustrating. From the start of this…

FIrst progress pics
Started hitting it hard two months ago. Initial weight was 243. Todays weight was 222. I have lost 1.5" in my neck, 3" in my chest, 4.5" in my shoulders, 1.5" in my hips and 5.25" in my waist. I started at 31.8% body fat and am currently at 25.6% which calculates to 24 lbs. of fat lost and 4.1 lbs. of muscle gained. Not…

Body Fat monitor accuracy
I'm questioning the accuracy of the body fat monitor that is used by the fitness club that I go to. It is a digital hand held machine that you input weight, height and age and then hold it out from your body for a scan. When I joined the club I weight 238 lbs. with an initial body fat percentage of 31.8% I weighed in and…

Initial Progress
I am nearling the end of my first 30 days with a drop of 14 lbs and a Body Fat Percentage drop of 3.8% (from 31.8% to 28%) Started at 242 and am currently 228 with a goal of being under 200. It sure seems to cone off slow, but it sure helps to be keeping record and look back over time to see progress

Accurate tracking
I have been working out with a trainer. The stuff we are doing involves strength training combined with cardio. Example (today) 3 sets ea.: curls lat pull downs suicide sprints (repeat) That is one set of excercises we did today (along with more). How would I best track this excercise regimen here? I know that with the…

Heart and Lungs
A few years ago I read a very interesting theory about the cardiovascular system. It went something like this: The heart and lungs cannot be strengthened. They are organs not muscles so they either work or they don't. They do not get larger and stronger because of excercise like other muscles. The only reason that cadio…

Carnivores
I see posts from vegans/vegetarians........any Paleo/Primal types out there? I try to be as much as possible. It is the only diet that makes complete sense to me.......only eat what God put on this eaarth for us to eat: meats, vegetables, fruits , nuts. I try to not drink anything other than water, tea and coffee with the…

Howdy
Howdy from Texas. I just joined a gym a few weeks ago and this site was recommended by one of the trainers to track food and exercise. I've been logging progress for a few weeks now. I have been interested in diet and nutrition for a few years now and have done quite a bit of reading/studying on the subject. I have come to…
