That Keto is so hot right now
I was just saying to my husband that I wish this Keto craze would end already. I feel like half the posts on here are about it, I have about 20 facebook friends constantly talking about it, and 65% of the news stories Google sends me about health are keto-related. (And I don't think a lot of people who say they're doing…

"Drink Shakeology because protein turns to fat"
I swear I used the search function and was not able to find an informative thread about the topic of protein turning to fat! I have a lot of facebook friends who are friends with a beachbody coach and so her posts pop up in my newsfeed sometimes. Last night she posted this long post about how shakeology is better than…

NYT article about obesity stating it's genetic, not lack of willpower
I just saw this article in the New York Times today: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/01/health/americans-obesity-willpower-genetics-study.html?&moduleDetail=section-news-2&action=click&contentCollection=Health®ion=Footer&module=MoreInSection&version=WhatsNext&contentID=WhatsNext&pgtype=article&_r=0 I don't generally tend…

Who gets loose skin?
Just saw a thread about getting a tummy tuck after weight loss, which makes me wonder if loose skin is something I should worry about. Does it only happen after a certain amount of weight is lost, or is it some combination of amount of weight plus time it took to lose it?

Is weighing/logging everything necessary?
I see so many posts where people complain they haven't lost weight and then everybody comes in saying that EVERYTHING HAS TO BE WEIGHED AND LOGGED. I know that CICO is typically the key to weight loss, but can you be successful without all of this? Who wants to have to weigh and log or even just log everything they put in…

Anyone have weight loss success not counting calories? New Rules of Marathon Nutrition...
I know that the key to weight loss is typically CICO, but after years of counting calories, I'm just tired of it. I recently picked up the new rules of marathon and half marathon nutrition and have been following the recommended diet in that book for two weeks. I have some big running goals this year so I thought it would…

I hate my salad!
I made salads for my lunches this week on Sunday. Yesterday's was good but today it was so hard to eat, I hated it. I want spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, buttered toast, kit kat bars... I'm trying so hard to hold out till the end of the day! I know they are just cravings and I'm not hungry but…

How do you, personally, determine how much water to drink?
I always hear so many different things about water needs. Some people say drink half your weight in ounces per day. Some people go by the 8 cups rule, but I don't think either of those are really based in science, just suggestions. I have no clue how much water to drink in a day. I think I sweat more than most people, so…

Which activity level should I pick???
I like to use the TDEE method but I'm always not sure what to use for my activity level. I go to crossfit classes 2 or 3 days per week which last an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes (but only 7-15 minutes of that is intense work, the rest is weight lifting, stretching, and mobility exercises). I aim to do yoga once per…

Just starting cross fit - tell me it gets better!
I am just starting out at my nearby box. They are requiring me to take a series of one-on-one fundamentals lessons before I can being actual crossfit classes (which I'm happy about). So I haven't gone to any real classes yet, but the package did come with ten "fitcon" classes, which is basically crossfit without the…

A GOOD protein pancakes recipe?
I've tried a few protein pancakes recipes, using everything from oats, to cottage cheese, to greek yogurt, to bananas, etc. and nothing ever tastes good, I end up having to put a ton of fruit on top to cover the taste. Could be because of the protein powder? Anyway, what is the BEST tasting protein pancakes recipe you've…

Need a DIFFERENT beginner's running program
Hey everyone. I used to be a pretty sweet runner (as my username suggests). I did a lot of 5Ks, did some 10Ks, moved my way up to 10 milers to half marathons and did a full (very slowly). All of that was a while ago though and I'm basically starting again from the beginning. I'd like to work my way up to 5Ks again this…

How many times to repeat?
I think this was talked about a while ago, but I can't find it. I apologize. He says you can do the exercises three times instead of two, especially for the first stage. (Like you do A, B, A, B, A, B, THEN increase your weight and do different reps, instead of just A, B, A, B,). Is this just the first stage? Has anyone…

How much of a calorie deficit?
Hi everyone I want to ask what everyone thinks about how much of a calorie deficit per week is optimal. I started out a couple years ago doing the 1200 calories per day thing. It got me out of the overweight zone and into the healthy zone, so I'm glad, but I don't want to do that anymore (and I don't think I've had that…

Sore muscle
Hello everyone... I've been running for over a year now, but recently I haven't been going out running as much. I started running longer distances this year, culminating in a half marathon on April 7 and another 10 mile race later that month. I'm not sure exactly what point it started, but now when I run my muscle in my…

Motivation to do Running Program
Hi everyone, I've been running for a year and a couple months now. Last year I did a bunch of 5ks, then trained for and completed a 10k, and then trained to run a faster 5 mile at a Turkey Trot. This year I trained for a half marathon I completed in April, but I struggled to keep my motivation through that program. I…

What the heck is porridge?????
What is this porridge everyone is talking about? Is it another word for oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits? Or is it something completely different? It must be healthy because so many people on here talk about it.

Staying Hydrated
This may be an obvious question, but what beverages help you stay hydrated? Obviously water is best. But sometimes water is boring. Does milk help with hydration? I have heard that pop helps hydrate you (even though it's not good for you), is that true? What about other caffeinated beverages? Coffee/tea - do they hydrate…

Comfy Bike Seats
I've been riding my bike through this gorgeous weather, but my bum hurts! Does anyone have any suggestions for a good bike seat that's nice and comfy?

What do you think of Anytime Fitness?
There's an anytime fitness by my house that is $30ish per month. I could go to a place 25 min away for $10 per month, but to me the convenience is worth the extra money. I always see people bashing Planet Fitness, and I just want to make sure Anytime Fitness doesn't have a bad reputation either.

Is it too soon to do a half marathon?
I was a runner in high school but I only did 5Ks. Then 7 years went by and I started running again last March (so I've been running about a year). At first I planned on doing only 5Ks, but I started to do longer races, I did 5 mile races and trained for a 10K in October. This year I was planning on doing a 10 mile race…

Too much fat?
I try to eat relatively low carb (under 100 per day) and eat more protein. Inadvertently I end up eating about 40 - 50% of my diet as fat. I know there are good fats and bad fats, and that fat doesn't make you fat...I'm just worried...is this unhealthy for me in other ways?

How many rest days do you need?
I'm in the middle of stage 1 (I know not very far, but I quit and started a couple times before I really got into it). I heard your muscles need 48 hours to recover, so you should be able to go 3X per week (that's what the book recommends, too). However, if I lift on Wednesday evening, I'm really sore Thursday and still so…

Need help from runners...
After seven years of not running, I started again last March. I improved a lot and I was doing 5Ks in 24 minutes and could do five miles in under 40 minutes. I did a five mile race on Thanksgiving, but somehow after that it all went downhill. I'd go out for my usual runs and instead of running 8 minute miles, somehow my…

Side Stitches while running/walking
So I've been running fairly seriously for 5 months now and I've gotten fairly decent at it. Last week I did a turkey trot on thanksgiving, and I only ran lightly a couple days. When I ran on Sunday, I got an awful side cramp, but thought maybe I didn't wait enough time after eating. Tuesday I ran fine. Thursday I ran 3…

How often do you take progress pictures?
Weekly? Monthly? When the scale says you've lost a certain amount of weight? When you get an NSV? I never really took any pictures, but I started a new plan about 3 weeks ago and I decided to take some before shots. I don't want to take progress pictures too often, because if I don't see results I may get discouraged. Then…

How much strength training do you actually have to do?
So I know that strength training is an important part of being healthy, as well as looking toned and burning more calories. I'm just wondering how often you have to go to be able to see some type of result. I'm not trying to look like Arnold or anything...just want a boost in my metabolism and to not be so jiggly. If I go…

Question for runners! Time improvement!
I just finished a big goal race I trained for starting in July - I wanted to run a 10K in under 58 minutes. I did it on Sunday and exceeded my expectations. I would like to do a half marathon some time in the spring, but it's too early to start training for that. I needed some shorter term goals. I decided to do a 5 mile…

Help me find Studies
Does anyone know where I can find reliable studies stating that nobody loses weight the same way? Like what works for one person doesn't work for another person? I'm working on a note I'm trying to get published and it would help me out a lot. Thanks!

Runners - what's the hardest part of running for you?
I was a runner in high school and started again this year. I know a lit of people have lung issues which is what makes running hard, but all my life, in ever really had lung problems. What keeps me from being fast is my muscles/feet/tendons hurting. Sometimes stretching helps, but it's still those parts of me that are…
