How often do you weigh yourself?
Yesterday was my first time on the scale since my pre-op meeting 2 weeks prior. The only time I weigh myself is at my doctor or surgeon's office. I don't own a scale and I'm not sure I really want one. I'm trying to focus on the healthy new habits I'm developing. (although I was anxious to see how much I'd lost) So, how…

I gained weight this week and it's a good thing
I just weighed in today and gained 5 pounds but I'm not worried about it. My goal weight is 175 pounds and as of today I'm 185.5. But the exercise I'm doing will develop more muscle mass, 60 minutes of cardio two days a week and strength training three days. I have increased muscle in all of the major groups. So what is…

Has anyone had their extra skin removed?
Hi - Has anyone had surgery to have the extra skin removed and were you able to get it covered by your insurance? My highest weight was 433lbs, my surgery weight was 385 and my current weight is 245. I have A LOT of extra skin which I did expect. I am not so worried about my arms, but my stomach and inner thighs are…

Vitamix for green drinks and protein drinks
Does anyone use a Vitamix to get vegetables in? I'm thinking I could use mine with some pea protein powder and maybe almond milk to make a smoothie or green drink. That way I would be getting protein, fluids and plant based vitamins, as well as fiber. Would love to know if this worked for anyone and would appreciate recipe…

Really confused and frustrated..
I'm 8 weeks post op (I was thinking up until now I was 6, but I'm actually on week 8) and have lost minimal weight. I'm actually still the weight I was on surgery day, but a week later I had gained 15 lbs (water I assume). I lost that and lost a few more lbs, got down to 368. Last week I gained to 374, this week I'm up to…

Consultation
I'm having my first appointment with the bariatric surgeon on April 27th. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm praying that the insurance will approve it. I have Staywell Medicaid. I weigh 240 and am 5'4" but also have a list of health issues ie., sleep apnea, high blood pressure, copd, asthma, arthritis, etc. I'm…

Carbs in vitamins!
I have been taking Bariatric Advantage vitamins since my surgery in January. Shame on me for not noticing before! They have one carb in each capsule, and the dose is six a day!!! Just thought I would pass this along. I will be changing to a noncarb vitamin once I use these. That's half an avocado that I could have eaten! I…

Surgery today!
just wanted to introduce myself. Laying in bed about 13 hours after my vsg. I am so relieved the surgery is done. I'm in pain but it's mostly tolerable. I've been up waking twice so far. Any helpful hints/tricks I should know now or when I get home?

Alcohol consumption after gastric bypass
Just wondering for those who've had gastric bypass - have you drank alcohol since your surgery? If so, how much, what type, and how long after surgery was it? I was 8 weeks post-op yesterday and I've seen quite of bit of contradicting recommendations on the internet, as well as from my doctor's office...so I was just…

3 weeks post-op

Weird question
Ok so this may sound a little weird. But it doesn't matter how many times I brush my teeth use mouth wash. I still get a funky taste in my mouth. Has this happened to anyone else? It didn't happen before surgery just not sure what changed ....

Gastric Bypass Book Club
Once I had a date I got busy and started reading what I could get my hands on. Turns out that there are some pretty good books out there. Here's my current favorite: Stranger Here by Jen Larsen. It was a memoir of her life leading to the decision and then post surgery, and how she figured out how to love herself. So it…

Recovery Time and Return to work
Hello all! I'm pretty new here. I'm still about 2-3 months away from surgery but I'm trying to do some post-op planning now. I'll be getting the vertical sleeve and I'm curious about recovery time. Specifically how quick I can/should return to work. I'm a bus driver so my job isn't super strenuous but I do use my arms and…

Upcoming WLS
I thought it would be great to start a thread for people whose surgery date is approaching with advice from our post-op friends. What do you wish you had taken to the hospital with you? What should we plan on while in the hospital? What do wish someone would have told you about the surgery day and the few days after? (For…

Stopping by to say HI!!!
New to this group. Hoping to meet some new people who understand what a crazy life changing experience this whole thing is. I just recently had my surgery done last Thursday April 2nd. So far so good I'm just worried I'm not getting enough nutrients cause I'm hardly hungry at all. Still kinda hurts taking small sips of…

giant setback prior to GB
I started my process in January and was so excited to be judged "qualified" for gastric bypass. Shortly after that however, things fell apart. My insurance covers the surgery itself for a BMI over 40 and I'm there. Only one provider is authorized however. The hard part I've found is that the only provider they cover…

How long were you out of work?
My surgery should be scheduled for June or July. I don't plan on telling anyone at work and was hoping to be out only a week or two at best. Of course I will do what my body allows, but I'm wondering how long all of you were out of work. I have an office job so physically I can sit at my desk as easily as I can sit at…

Diabetes and Blood Sugar levels
This post isn't specifically about WLS but I know a lot of us are diabetic. I'm trying to get off my meds now that I've had surgery so I've been monitoring my blood sugar levels lately (quite honestly, I almost never did prior to a few weeks ago). So, I pricked myself this morning after about 10 hours of not eating. 103…

New Here. Hi From Texas!
Hi everyone. So glad to find a group on MFP that I feel comfortable enough to join. My story: I have been "chubby" most of my life. Well, except that short period of when I was a VERY busy teen and was rarely at home. After a failed marriage, being a single mom for 20+ years on a pretty small income, having a child with…

tat2cookie, you're a genius!
I had your protein puree today and it was soooooo good!! I didn't use the spice because I am a wimpy girl, and I don't have any unflavored protein powder. But the rest I made and LOVED it! I was able to feed my daughter, and she liked it too. I do want to add the protein powder, but wanted to know what kind of unflavored…

6 days since I had the sleeve.
It's been 6 days and I'm doing pretty well. Still working out the gas - joy, joy - but definitely feel like a human again. I sure do miss having big tall glasses of ice water. I've aleady lost 14 pounds but I'm sure that's just from my 3rd week of liquid diet. My mind is ready for me to do things but my body is slow in…
