  • I've used them here or there over the years, never had a noticeable difference other than the caffeine some of them pack. A cup of coffee is just as effective and heck of a lot cheaper. The only thing that helped me drop weight was consistent calorie restriction and exercise.
  • Tell your roommate to hide the junk? I have the same problem though...even "healthy" foods can be detrimental in excess. I am a big fan of the frozen veggies that you can microwave - some of the green giant ones in light sauce you can eat the whole bag for ~100 cals and its enough volume to keep you full for a bit. Another…
  • I have the Charge HR, with the Charge HR2 on its way. Overall I like it, mostly for activity and sleep tracking. If you know people with a fitbit that also helps as you can do challenges which can be motivating. It all really depends on what motivates you - if you are a competitive person who likes to track progress and…
  • I tried it but I don't think it worked any better than eating on a normal schedule. Not really worth the discomfort of being hungry all the time and the lack of energy.
  • Cheat day? Probably a bad idea. A "cheat" meal once a week, has helped me control cravings and keep on track the other 20 meals of the week. Still you need to keep it reasonable...ie...blowing out on 5 plates worth of food at Golden Corral will probably not be in your best interest.
  • I think the study only disproves the myth that if you start working out you can eat however much you want, especially if it is a "healthy" food. Unfortunately the information will be misused as an excuse to not exercise. Optimal health is achieved by a combination of diet and exercise, period.
  • Try dropping the dairy altogether and see what happens. Also keep a close watch on your sodium. You'd be surprised how much is hidden in foods you wouldn't even expect. It is easy to consume way too much without ever adding table salt to your food.

  • That's ridiculous. I think I would've confronted them about it. But then again, back in my heaviest days probably not. Don't let idiots like that discourage you though. If what you're doing is working keep at it. In a few months time you'll be much improved and they will remain the same indefinitely. Walking at 2 mph on…
  • I noticed my weight drop within the first week, on the scale anyway. Cleaning up your diet usually causes you to lose a lot of water weight the first week then the second week the rate of loss will slow down (typically at least) my opinion: 1200 calories is fine. People on here act like you will kill yourself going that…
  • Me too!! And if they leave a voice mail I get anxious about listening to it and delay as long as possible. I don't want to "call you back" or do whatever it is you're trying to get me to do.
  • the latest: -My weight has fluctuated a lot the past few days. I know it is normal to fluctuate day to day with water weight. All along it has fluctuated a few pounds here and there and I never let it bother me. But when it goes up 13, down 8, up 3 - all for now apparent reason.... yeah it starts to mess with your head.…
  • Keep it simple and repeatable. It makes it easier to track in MFP and make it part of your routine. Breakfast: Eggs or Egg Whites Lunch: Leftovers from dinner Salad Dinner: 1 each of the following 3 categories 4 oz lean meat- chicken breast, pork chops, lean ground beef or turkey, lean cuts of steak, fish veggie- broccoli,…
  • -chew gum -drink water -drink hot tea (green, black, oolong, etc) -drink black coffee -ignore it "Hunger is like a Jehovoah's Witness. If you ignore it long enough, it will eventually go away." -My Wife
  • Another runner checking in. I don't actually "enjoy" the time I'm running but love that feeling as soon as its over knowing you hit a new PR and did something you've never done before. All those thoughts that go on during a run...yup...
  • I've just hit 3 months in that range with maybe a handful of exceptions (which were due to planned cheat meals). I'm down 32 pounds. I don't plan on keeping it up for too much longer - not because it is unsustainable, but because I'm getting close to the look / bodyfat range I was seeking and will be trying to gain muscle.…
  • Confession: These people who are into outlandish conspiracy theories really baffle me. I don't know how some of this stuff can even be believed and I question the judgment of those who do. My personal theory is that they would rather believe things are beyond their control and it gives them a sort of excuse to not live up…
  • Confession : I take my shirt off and look at myself in the mirror almost every time I use the restroom at home. I'm really not a narcissist and don't like attention from others. I think I do it almost because I have a hard time accepting how much I've changed. I don't recognize myself in pictures sometimes. It is a very…
  • How did you come to be an atheist? Very curious about this I was raised Christian, Christian school, church everytime the doors were open (Baptist at that). I've slowly gone from identifying as Christian, to deist, to somewhere between agnostic/atheist currently. **but I'm secretly thinking about converting to the church…
  • They are definitely out there. I used to deliver home medical equipment, we specialized in wound care. Most patients were paralyzed or amputees or otherwise bed ridden for some reason beyond their control. But there was maybe 5% or so that were in this super obese category. Very sad. Medical equipment companies make an…
  • That's the mantra I'm seeking! So hard not to fall back into old established patterns of behavior - and not just this but anything - diet, addictions, relationships, etc. Coming to terms with myself and beliefs has already been very liberating. I haven't had to face the confrontation with family yet since I've been living…
  • Confession: My views on religion and spirituality are vastly different from those of my parents and what they raised me to believe. My family has no idea who I really am in many ways. I'm a chronic people pleaser and confrontation avoider. It has caused me a lot of unhappiness over the years as you can imagine. Only…
  • I'm currently down about 30 pounds in 3 months.
  • Confession: -I really really want to have an abdominoplasty to get rid of this loose skin flab I have. My skin isn't that bad compared to some others who've lost greater amounts but I still feel like I need it to feel "whole" again, to put my identity as a fat person behind me and move on from it. It is always there and I…
  • congrats guys I'm in the same boat! Not a drop since 1/1 my life has totally changed for the positive. even if there were some more good times to be had, they wouldn't be worth what I'd be risking or giving up.
  • -I'm in the introvert / low friend count crowd. Used to bother me, but not so much anymore. My wife and I are very close. Other than that, I can count the people I consider close friends on one hand and still have a finger or two to spare (family included). Having lots of friends that you can't relate to or don't have much…
  • confession: (and this ties in to the past 2 or 3 topics in this thread somehow) I used to be pretty judgmental of people with mental health issues. I'd dismiss it as weakness or attention seeking. Then about 2 years ago I started having panic attacks and anxiety. Fought it for a long time, tried to "fix" it on my own,…
  • binge drinking 3-5 nights a week... probably anywhere from 900-1500 calories in beer each time + all the junk food I could get my hands on. Yeah, bad habit... sober since 1/1 and down 30 pounds (also increased exercise and restricted diet, but yeah you get the point)
  • Don't even know what you're talking about...
