Yep, for mere weight loss, eat whatever and maintain a deficit... For optimal health and peak fitness, it actually does matter what you eat, but again, if your only interest is weight loss, whatever...

Food Binges! I used to just eat all day - my God! The first few months were hell, and after that, my results trumped my desire to eat everything on the McD value menu.

I toss one in every smoothie. That sure beats that half gallon of ice cream I used to slug down my fat throat after lifting...you know...for "muscle recovery"... :*

No, and you might want to consider taking some days off to allow your body to recover. It's great that you're weight training. Good Luck!

Just look at the end of that chapter as the beginning of your new life where you'll get fit, look good, feel great and soar to new heights. Godspeed in your journey <3

^^^THIS! :) Yes, I know tofu wrapped in seaweed, thrice dipped in kale juice is the healthiest food on earth, but how much good will it do my body rotting in the fridge? We all need to strive toward our personal ideal for "clean eating", and we must also allow ourselves to be human.

My injury recovery go-to exercise has always been swimming. I tore a hamstring sprinting in a race, and that stifled my running, squatting, dead-lifting and lunge career for a season. I swam, then slowly worked back to strength training on machines at first, then light weights that got progressively heavier until I was…

I trust MFP to a point. Their calorie estimates for food intake and exercise burn are just that: estimates. I found that my metabolism was higher than their numbers, so I made adjustments. You must try their numbers first, then correct course only if needed. As you can see below, MFP worked for me once I found my zone.…

Well done! The herd wants the gain but won't suffer the pain....

Well, you could not tell them much, because kids learn habits from parents both good and bad. It's like my uncle preaching against the evils of smoking...as he lit up a cigar... :p

That was 1200 NET calories and 1200 as set by MFP is the lowest calorie amount the system will input. The post you responded to even floated the notion that 1200 is too low for most. The forums have a bad reputation for those who can't seem to read.

Your trainer is a dolt. Fire him! :)

Dude, your calculations were nearly identical to my own I derived through experience and learning my own body requirements. Well said! :)

I precook chicken, turkey and fish on Sunday and store it for the week ahead. The night before, I take a trey from the freezer for the next day. It's really very simple but just requires ongoing discipline to plan ahead and take the proper action. One final suggestion: don't run out and buy a bunch of junk-supplement bars…

WELL DONE - congratulations! :)

When I used to work long hours, I found creative ways to sneak in my workouts on the job. It wasn't like my co-workers don't play games between duties or crowd the water cooler for office gossip. I see exercise making me a more productive worker. Push-Ups here, knee bends there, chin ups outside, leg raises in my chair and…

Best of luck to you; and welcome!

Diet and exercise is a function of the goals we set; that was my point. Sometimes the internet is a bad place to convey intentions. Just take what you can, and don't get offended. Good luck to you in reaching your goals. :)

I'd be honored to have any of you folks as MFP friend for mutual support and idea sharing. ALL IS POSSIBLE!
-
Yes, but you lose weight - not just "fat". And the exercises you engage will determine fitness levels and affect health. For mere weight loss, do whatever...eat whatever but maintain a calorie deficit. I always desired so much more than mere weight loss B)

Yep, ^^^THIS The whole desire to get swole has been a true stumbling block. As I age, being big is getting trumped by a desire to be healthy. I realized years ago that at 5' 9", my old "Strong Guy" weight of 205 was not a healthy weight for me post age 40. Today, I am 30 pounds lighter and still feel too blubbery at 17%…

I know a bunch of folks who just don't like breakfast, so hey, if that works, cool! I know IF is hyped to do so much more, but at day's end, I just don't know...

I am always interested in trying fitness principles. You get those who swear by intermittent fasting, and others who say it does nothing. I tried it along with other such routines in an effort to maintain weight and cut body fat. I was successful, but the progress is slow, and I really don't know which routines has the…

Yes, and after friending somebody, it takes a day or so for me to be able to LIKE and comment...

WELCOME! :)

Usually, challenges that make me want to quit are exactly what I need.

^^^THIS It takes time, so just stay on track and avoid infomercials.

I make my own smoothies with coco powder, nut butter, greek yogurt, fruit, coconut milk and some veggie juice. That's like a meal, and I drink this concoction before bedtime most nights. A friend got into herbalife, gave me some samples, then tried to recruit me into his MLM pyramid. No thanks to that! :o

You should be there by x-mas! :) I remember well that half way point.
