Just gotten my second DEXA scan done today. I had my first one three months ago, before I started my fitness projects. The results are pretty amazing. In those three months, I dropped bodyfat from 28% to 18%, I lost 22 lbs of fat and gained 15 lbs of muscle. :o All I can say is: the system works! ;)

I've been wearing a Charge 2 for a couple of months now. It does absolutely nothing for my weightlifting specifically. All it does is generally track how many calories I burn, regardless whether it's on a workout, walking, or just sitting on the couch. If you're looking for a tool that's more aimed at weightlifting, I'd…

My height is 6.5ft (197cm), my weight is 200.6lbs (91kg), my age is 35 and my activity level is sedentary. That BMR of 2078 was determined by a DEXA scan.

I've been looking for a program that I can stick to for the next 18 weeks while cutting. I need a novice full body workout to do 3 x week. I like things simple and straightforward. That's why I was drawn to the Stronglifts program, but also a little put off by the high set count & doing squats every time. Then I saw this…

I don't really have anything new to add to the conversation, I was just reminded of something that I recently came across in the book 'New Rules of Lifting'. This subject is mentioned as something that grinds the author's gears: "Differentiating calories. I started this chapter by mentioning a statement that drives me…

I love whiskey. For cocktails I either take Maker's Mark bourbon or Old Overholt rye. On the rocks, I like single malts like Glenfiddich or the Japanese Yoichi.

I can only speak for myself, but what helps me in that area is dark chocolate. I think there's some science to back that up, like that it diminishes the hunger hormone or something. I'll usually pre-program a few pieces into MFP, just to make sure. I find that it really deals with cravings and gives a fulfilled feeling.

Thanks for the great advice guys! I suspected that it was the best option to go for the unaltered SL program, but it's good to be sure.

I'm going to start lifting soon, so I'm looking for a decent starter program that I can stick to for a while. The goal is to gain some strength and build muscle. I found the SL 5x5 very appealing because it's super simple and straightforward, I only have to learn how to do 5 moves. In reading up on it, I accidentally…

Thanks for the tip, will definitely check those out!

I have a question: if he's required to eat 3070 calories a day, wouldn't 220 g of protein just be about 29% of this total daily calorie goal? I thought 35%C - 35%P - 30%F was pretty much a standard stetting? Or is the point in this case that he should lower his entire daily calorie goal?

Just to add to the topic, MFP user @vismal spoke about his opinion on this in a YT vid: https://youtu.be/tTb7lEs_6BU

That's easy, in that case I would literally put my foot in my mouth.

The misuse of the word literally. Like "OMG I was laughing so hard, I literally just died." Come on...

Hey dude, I've been checking out your vids on YT and saw your opinion on not eating back any earned calories. My question is: do you feel the same about so-called "refeed days"? Say for example, I cut at a daily 500 calorie deficit and I workout 3 times a week. Since my diet is already in place for my cutting, would it be…

Premium doesn't offer a mind-blowing difference. Still does the exact same job, tracking calories. It just lets you customize a few more details like setting macros by gram & different goals on different days. Personally, I like that you can set the front page to show macros on opening and I like the stats that show the…

I'd definitely take advice from someone who's not in great shape. This dude has clearly been there and knows what he's talking about. A guy who has a great physique might be someone who relates much less to me. Maybe that guy is a natural born athlete with godlike genes, who's been effortlessly sporty all his life. I'd…

My personal experience: going to the gym is pretty intimidating at first. People are checking you out and you feel out of place. It sucks, but that's just the way it is with everything new. After a month of hanging in, you'll realize two things: 1) No one is there to laugh at people or to see others fail. Gym people are…

Same here. Use cottage cheese, put in a little salt and a lot of pepper, throw in some capers and slice up a few black olives.

Alcohol is TOTALLY fine, it just has to fit your diet allowance. Your calorie budget is your playground. I just choose wisely, because certain alcohols will play a little nicer than others. ;) For example: if I drink beer, I'll drink light beer in the general range of 100 cal. If it's wine, I'll stay away from red, but…

Sorry to break it to you, but that's all true. Exercise doesn't cause weight loss, it just burns calories. But everything you do burns calories: just by living and breathing. So you don't need exercises to burn calories, your body already does that. Exercise is for building muscle. Weight loss comes from eating less…

Could be that certain medications like those steroid injections make your metabolism slower. That could cause you to stop being in a calorie deficit.
