People are so accustomed to seeing others overweight that they don't recognize what a healthy weight is or why someone would like to have it. And some are just uncomfortable with seeing someone else strive for a goal. Let your mind take over and brush their comments off.

What I do is only borderline fasting. On Mondays and Thursdays, I don't eat until 5PM or later. Some call this 5-2 fasting. The other 5 days of the week I just keep it under 1800 cals, which is significant because I'm nearly 6'3 and male. The combination allows me to lose 2 or 3 lb a week, and I'm happy with that. Believe…

You're really doing very well! You should feel proud.

First, congratulations for a truly remarkable weight loss. I am always hearing from my female friends how difficult it is to lose weight if one is a woman, middle aged, whatever. And then I read a story like yours and scratch my head a little. I know, everyone is different. But you are an inspiration.

Exercise should be a part of your program, even if it is just walking. If you must reduce your food calories, why not split the difference and try 1400 or 1450. It is an unfortunate fact that women tend to lose weight more slowly than men, so some patience is required no matter what. Good luck!!

I reached my goal weight about 4 weeks ago. Now, I'm up about 3 lbs since then. There's a lot of variables, really. What I call "springback" effect, holiday eating, etc. Nevertheless, when I average my intake and exercise calories over that period, I "should" have lost about a pound. I think I'm going to have to stay 300…

I got to my goal weight of 187 about three weeks ago and of course I am pleased about that. I thought it would be great to drop another 7 pounds, but with the holidays.... Anyway I'm still logging, eating under my maintenance cals and exercising, although maybe my activity level could be higher. My weight doesn't seem to…

I know that BMR, or Basal Metabolic Rate, is the starting point. BMR is the number of calories necessary to maintain weight with zero activity. This is relatively standard, though never exact, among people with the same height and "build". I'm not sure if there is a difference noted between men and women or old and young.…

Great work! Hope the trainer deal goes well too. BTW, you looked OK "before" too.

Interesting story! Keep pitching!

Proud accomplishment and good story too. Congrats!

Terrific!!
-
Congratulations. You look dramatically better. I don't blame you for resisting goals and other metrics, especially since your way is working for you.

Can it be that your enthusiasm for your new health routine has affected you emotionally? Realistically, 1200 calories is not a lot, and you should be enjoying every one of them, IMHO.
-
No question you look way thinner. Great job.
-
Woww!! A complete transformation. Great work!!

I had to lose about the same as you for people to say something. First, my best male friend said "You're starting to make me look bad"... later hesaid that he suspected that there was something wrong in my head, So much for male support systems!! Later on some folks at church noticed, mostly women. That's nice, because I…

I know it's corny, but "Patches" by Johnny Cash always gets to me. Also, "Operator", by Jim Croce.

I made it! But just barely--I had trouble motivating myself to exercise enough this last week of the challenge. But I scored in my regular categories of work-related activities like carpentry, moving boxes, etc and also did a variety of walking speeds. Anyway, I got to 5003 calories somehow, as shown below.…

Interesting discussion. I see elements of truth in most all of the responses. However, I am not disposed toward extremes. I liken your social situation to situations in my own past. For example, I quit smoking almost 10 years ago (hear the applause?). But I knew that this would distance me from my smoking friends, as…

I succeeded in burning my 5000 and more this week--it's a lot easier when exercise is tied to productive work. October is a great time to get outside work accomplished, so I racked up my 2nd highest tally in gardening, which in my case consists of digging thousands of weeds (the "stickyburr" type) out of my recently…

I think there's too many variables. Maybe we could find a giant laboratory scale??

Hi. Below is a fairly incomprehensible matrix of numbers in supposed date/daily calories burned/cumulative weekly calories burned. I gues the important thing is that I've exceeded the 5000 cals burned per week for the 2nd straight week. More of the calories came from carpentry this time, as I've been building a large room…

Congrats!! You and I have similar goals and I'd like to get to 180's myself (202 now). Just curious--how tall are you? Phil (friend me?)

Hi. I logged 5463 calories burned this week, mostly on my elliptical machine but also from yardwork, carpentry, slow walking (shopping), and light housework. I was doubtful about my ability to do this challenge at first but I can see now that it's achieveable for me and worthwhile. Best of luck to the rest of you. Phil
