  • Good morning ladies- I am just getting back on this journey. I need to lose 40-50'total. Right now -5 would be uplifting. Just lost my job, and am feeling that employers will not "lean" towards me due to my weight and age. Anyway- would really love some support and accountability
  • I just ran my first 5k yesterday (The Color Run.. look it up on the internet.. they may have one in your area). It was a super fun race and my goal was to complete it with no stopping. I am a super slow runner.. but , running none the less. I also followed C25k--after reading many posts on MFP. I have taken 2 groups of…
  • I want to thank you all for your comments. I am adding my time to my jogs slowly-- I add 2 minutes each week.-- I did have my shoes fit at a running store, but while I dont think they are worn out, I think I will check that out. I DO only wear them for running. I think the big thing, is strengething the calves. I am going…
  • I agree with sevsmom :) On all of it. A short suggestion - compression shorts. You can find them at a Sports Authority - I always buy Champion. They are $20. I like them alot-- and wear a longer shirt with them. But, so many shorts bunch up on me.. because of my large thighs. ANd you dont want "the bunch". Water. I am not…
  • I've noticed people loose weight before and I am ALWAYS scared to say anything about it. If I say you look good now, I am inferring that you didn't look good previously. You can bet people notice. There was a post previously (listed above) .. and I completely agree. Sometimes folks just feel awkward. Congratulations to you…
  • What a great question. I am really addicted to Coke. Love it. I have recently changed my strategy. I used to drive through McDonalds and get my treat for the day -- 1 large Coke. Because why would I pay the same for a small coke when I can get a large? And, I will admit-- one Coke a day for me feeds my craving. I would…
  • There IS safety in numbers. And there will be hundreds of folks running in the race with you. The crowd and the volunteers are always super supportive---and will help you out :) I like running alone--even if I go with a friend, I would not run with them. It is important to go at my own pace-- listen to my Ipod and enjoy .…
  • Hard to Handle- Black Crows Touch Me- Katharine McPhee I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas Michael Jackson-- may not love the person, but lots of upbeat music Believer- Smash Mouth (Or Monkees.. ) Jet Ariliner - Steve Miller Band Rock N Me- Steve Miller Band Never Been Any Reason - Head East Great question-- love all the…
  • I like the Luna Bars-- Peppermint chocolate also. I usually cannot eat a whole one. I don't exercise as much as most of the folks replying.. not there yet :) But, when I teach 2 Spin classes in a row-- I will bring a Luna Bar with me to nibble on between the classes. Even then.. it is so filling, I cannot eat a whole one.
  • Thanks- the recipe looks good. I have never heard of that dressing before. Hope I can find it
  • Are you able to ride a bike--- or take spinning class?
  • I think that they will all vary. I do think my HRM is most accurate. But, i would pick one tool- and stick with that. Also, I agree with the prior post- underestimate. .. the worse thing that could happen is that you really burned more calories than you thought :)
  • This may be a stupid answer-- as I am not a trainer of any kind. But, it has always been my understanding that you want to do weight lifting to keep your bones strong- or build bone strenghth. That really doesn't address your question about muscles-- but, I wanted to throw that in, since I think weight lifting is important…
  • So, I love the running too. (as you know). So, I say keep it up. It is good for maintaining the weight---and has so many other beneficial factors (e.g. heart). I would switch it up -- or add- other things. Have you tried Spinning- AMT- ? And, weight training is really important. But... in weight training-- keep your heart…
  • well, there are so many responses--- WE all can't be wrong :) The problem is others..not you. You know, there are just people who have evil in them. Dont let it take away from all of the positive you are getting in other ways. People on this site.. and your friends. AND.. most of all..don't let them ruin your enjoyment.…
  • I love my HRM (which is not really what this post is about.. ;) ) But, I found that I was estimating calories burned based on what was int he Fitness database or averages on line. I found that I wasn't burning quite as many as I thought. But.. that's ok. It's accurate.. and that is what I needed. It was also interesting…
  • I am not sure I understand your post. But, the C25k was great. My plan is to do a 5k this year ( a few of them).. and then start work towards a 10k. Not sure that I will ever be interested in running further. I have some painful tendonitis right now.. so running is on hold for a little while. But I am now hooked on…
  • I am in the same club as you .. and I don't have a small waist.. which makes the whole tie back thing on a shirt not an option. However, I NEVER wear anything with a Square neckline. AND, patterns are your friend (though, I agree with others... no horizontal stripes). Also, to jump on the bandwagon- do invest in a good…
  • as many others have said.. not true. My "ta-tas" are bigger and I weigh more than you do. The trick is a good bra. I have found one recently that I really really really like-- Moving Comfort- Fiona Bra. Go to a sports store and have them fit you. It is worth it. Not cheap... but easy to hand wash and take care of. If you…
  • I LOVE C25k ! I just got done with the training and am just adding a little distance so that I can run my first 5k in Sept (cause I want to make sure I am really ready)- But .. your toe-- or your knees, ankles.. etc. When they are sore. stop.. skip a day. rest. ICE ICE ICE. Stretch. Yes .. even your toes. Try picking up…
  • what i cannot tell from reading your profile and this post is how much did you need to lose? If you only had 15 pounds to lose all together.. then you are really doing great. If you have 200 pounds to lose.. then 12 pounds in 3 months may be slow. But, from your pic.. it doesn't look like 200 pounds is the case. I think 12…
  • I love Spinning and teach a beginner class at our YMCA. You will be surprised at how much better you feel even after a few classes. Remember.. take it at your own pace. You don't have to keep up with those that have been doing it for longer. Your instructor gave you a goal-- but you don't have to do that your first few…
  • .... post #2--- OK, I may have been wrong on the sugar. Pick a few things to cut out... our just cut some of your sweets in half. That may help also :)
  • I would agree with the sodium . Your diary looks great though. Not sure that i agree with the sweets being a big deal. This is a lifestyle change, so you dont want to feel deprived. Also, I didnt take a look at what you are doing for excercise--but, make sure you are switching that up. Be patient-- I have seen many hit a…
  • You are strong. You are stronger than food. Also, you are not alone. There are many of us on this site that suffer with this whole sabatoging thing. The gym : Find something you really like to do. Because if you go because you "paid for it"-- you will not continue. Have you tried Zumba ? or Spinning? Step class? I am not a…
  • I used Kettlebells a couple of times with a personal trainer. My legs were sore to the touch the next day! It was an awesome workout.!! I want to start using them again. I have also been to a kettlebell class which was done poorly (in my opinion) and was a horrible workout . (She really geared it towards Seniors and/or…
  • I have just started running-- using C25k after I started having some issues with my knees. I think you are getting some good tips here. Just wanted to tell you how much the ice is really helping me. Also, I dropped it down a couple of notches.. slow and steady seems to be the way to go :) I am not hurting and I am…
  • very funny! I like it!
  • Oh my gosh.. I could have written your post. I lost 15pounds , have about 25 more to go. Was doing well, excercising and staying at 1200 calories. Was able to buy some new clothes. THEN.. broke my foot. Ever since then, haven't been able to get back on the food track. Just now starting to excercise again, and getting in…
