  • I've tried the fad thing in the past. None of them worked long term. Anything that doesn't allow you to have the foods you love is doomed to failure. I'll even partake of carbs!
  • Sweat. As Anvilhead said, you can't spot reduce. Keep up the exercise it will go away.
  • If you aren't hungry don't worry about it.
  • I do the gym but I'm not big on it. Find it boring. Same with swimming. I prefer to get outside and run or bike ride. To push myself, such as yesterday, I wanted to run 16 miles. I ran 8 miles from home. Doesn't leave me much choice, either run 8 miles home or have to admit defeat and call my wife to come get me. That…
  • Hey Youngster. I'm 53 and lost most of my weight over about 8 months so its doable. You will have to stay committed.
  • Ain't it great!
  • Started about a year ago eating less and just trying to walk to the park and back, a whopping mile. Joined MFP to make it easier to track calories on my wife's advice. Worked my way up to walking 3 miles. Than running a mile, sort of. Worked my way up to run a 5K, then a 10K. Started biking, then decided to get into…
  • Excellent work and thank you for your service.
  • Not a lot of music, mostly 70's rock, country, etc. Love Jimmy Buffett. Radio in the pickup is usually on the talk shows, local and national. Political news from Rush, Sean Hannity, Robert Pratt of Pratt on Texas. Regular news from Fox News. Probably guess my political leanings.
  • Keep at it, the pain will eventually subside and the results will be worth it. Also, start off at a lower weight. Don't start pushing the limits until you've been working out for a couple weeks. Give your muscles a chance to wake up and realize they have to start earning their living. The beer gut and moobs will go away…
  • I would eat back my calories until I was full. I didn't force calories down and I didn't run around looking for something with 37 calories in it.
  • I love my sugar, breads, pastas and other occasional junk food. Any diet that forces you to give up the stuff you love is doomed to failure.
  • As stated on here in various forms, the magical secret to weight loss is "move more, eat less". Yep, that's it "Move more, eat less". Very simple and easy to follow. I've tried fad diets, they all fail eventually so I created my own, The David Bass Diet. I eat what I like because I have to do this for the rest of my life…
  • 123/65 after activity isn't very high, especially if it is only one reading. I've had it done at the doctor's office and had it reading a little higher than that. The doctor wasn't concerned. You are supposed to rest for 1/2 hour before taking it to get an accurate reading.
  • 1. Normal cholesterol 2. Normal blood pressure 3. No sleep apnea 4. No snoring 5. Run for 10 miles.
  • Ummmm......I don't worry that much about it. I very seldom eat all my calories back. I eat till I am full and stop. When I was doing weight loss, the idea was to loose weight. If you eat your exercise calories back you don't loose weight . Don't buy the "You got to eat your exercise calories back to loose weight faster"…
  • Congratulations
  • Did my first tri about the same time you did, up in Plainview, TX. It was a wonderful feeling to finish. Went out last weekend and watched the Buffalo Springs 1/2 Ironman. That's my goal for next summer.
  • Between the wife and I we have lost 1 of our daughters, i.e., our combined weight loss is more than what one of our daughters' weighs. She is probably more supportive than I am. She is low carbing it and I just can't do that. I love Mexican and Italian. Makes it hard to do meals sometimes.
  • FYI, Laws of Physics states for an object to move faster requires more energy for the same distance as an object moving slower.
  • A lot of us started out walking with no intent on running. I started with a 1 mile walk. Just wanted to get to where I could walk 2 miles. Then it was 3. Decided to run one day. Got up to a mile and thought I was awesome. Started bike riding then swimming. Now I am running 25 miles/week, bike riding 70 miles/wk and…
  • You don't have to go to the gym. You can exercise at home. Most of my exercise is running and riding bikes, although that isn't how I started. I started just walking to the park and back.
  • The two lunches idea might work. Hadn't thought about that. My daughter can see my ribs is why she compared me to the holocaust victims. Knowing how schools think these days they probably aren't allowed to show pictures of the victims, only describe them.
  • I usually have oatmeal or cheerios for breakfast for the oats thing for my cholesterol which is no longer a concern. I could add eggs but I have found if I eat a protein breakfast I'm not real hungry at lunch.Lunches are usually light, cottage cheese, yogurt and a banana. Yesterday I had chocolate chip cookies because I…
  • Broccoli, radishes and beer? Glad I don't share an office with you.
  • As long as you keep your calories down your fine. I go over my protein all the time.
  • I don't buy into it. Only real study I could find says 8 cups from all sources, including vegetables, fruits, coffee, etc and it wasn't that conclusive. I have hardly ever hit 8 cups and I have lost 75 lbs fairly quickly. I drink enough to stay hydrated and that is all. Just have to keep the pee a light yellow.
  • I was going to post how to fix your post but you already got it. Great work on your weight loss.
  • Old school here. The guy should always pay on a date and should hold the door for his date and any other female entering at the same time.
  • I'm not real sure what the definition of cheat is. I very seldom go over my calorie allowance. I eat one I want, some of it in moderation and I burn it off. Like a lot of people if I cheat or binge once, it will lead to another and so on. I will get into the 'I'll start tomorrow' routine. Except for Thanksgiving and…
