  • My Dad sold those vacuum cleaners. It is a Lewit. Never thought I would see one again.
  • 966 Obviously, some people have more spare time than others. Some of us have more spare tire :(
  • I became more successful when I started to have more unprocessed food. It took a while to become accustomed. Processed food like breakfast cereals and packaged meals are often high in sugars, simple carbohydrates, salt, and fats. Those sell the food. Selling is the point, not your health. Same marketing philosophy goes for…
  • It would be extremely good to see your primary car physician about this. Often it is not something trivial that can be shaken off. My spouse developed plantar faciitis over a year ago and still has it. The healing can be a long term process or it can be chronic. Or you might be fortunate and resolve it in a month or so,…
  • What kinds of strengthening exercises do you prefer?
  • Whatever gets you started is fine by me. The only way to lose is have a calorie deficit. Slim Fast is not a calorie deficit, it is a collection of products. Their 3-2-1 plan requires you have a "sensible meal" which they define as 500 calories. 3 snack bars at 100 calories each = 300 . 2 meal bars at 220 calories = 440 1…
  • It does take time to get used to going without one's usual snacks. After a a few weeks I really did not miss the snacks. Supposedly, habits take 6 weeks to get established. you set a 6 week target for yourself. Just at the end of that period you should be really into the habit of not snacking.. Then would be a good time to…
  • Thread was worth it for the dog picture. Nothing else.
  • you can add me. I will accept friend requests if the diaries are open.
  • You are operating much more accurately than I ever have. If it works for you, it is correct. You are already aware weight loss will slow as you approach your goal. Sound like you have this pegged.
  • Interesting. So HRMs are only valid for people in shape? Which oddly enough is not the target market. I am out of shape and use the machines' estimates, not an HRM. Their estimates may be worse. Still, it is something. Over time I adjust my consumption and exercise. If I am a little wobble-legged after a cardio session or…
  • There are various HIIT interval cycles. Regardless of the cycle, the heart rate suggestions sound right. HIIT and burning calories - Calories burned are best measured during steady-state cardio exercises, working at a steady effort over time. Even so, I use the estimates provided by the exercise equipment during my HIIT…
  • Happens. Frequently. Go for it - looking forward to your post in Success Stories and, especially, Maintenance.
  • JB had a great suggestion with walking. Just moving around is enough to start. It was for me. Slowly over months I was able to do more than a few minutes on an elliptical machine. This is not a race. Logging is the best thing you can do - it will encourage you to do more. Specifically for your back, I would lift things…
  • Nice. very good start. Check in next week. Be honest. No big problem if you go over. Honest recording will produce more progress than not logging because of guilt.
  • Get a meal card. Here at UMass I cannot believe the fantastic choices they offer! From hand-rolled sushi to salads, vegan, noodle soups, and all the way to burgers and pizza.

  • Currently lost 19%. At goal will have lost 23% Sheesh. Now it seems like a lot.
  • Start logging now, even before your calculate your TDEE. Then calculate your caloric intake for 1.5 lb loss per week. Then plan on making it a lifetime change, easing into maintenance. A wedding? Vacation? Bikini? Meh. Those are gone in a day, maybe a month or two. Then you gain the weight back and feel like a sea lion.
  • Actually, that is fast. Please try not to be discouraged with a drop of .5 to 1 lb per week. That is also a very good pace.

  • Don't consume them in the first place. You can't out-race your fork. reducing calorie intake is 80% or more of weight loss.
  • You are not weak, you have strongly established habits. It takes time to change habits. I find it easier if snacks are not in the house. If it ain't there, I can't eat it. Of course it does not help when spouse is not on board and keeps bringing junk food into the house.
  • This might help although it does not directly answer your questions about particular foods. I am also terrible at "dieting" for the same reasons. You happened to use the words "aware", "think about", and "convince". I believe you are correct, most of the work is in our heads and permanently changing the way we think. This…
  • Nothing beats planning ahead and cooking extra, as others have said. But if you are really stuck, try London Broil. Really. 3 minutes per side in a hot pan, 7 to 10 minutes in a 375F oven. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and it will remain juicy. Slice as thin as you can. Spiff it up with some ground pepper before…
  • Wonderful! Congratulations! You must feel so much better.
  • * There are no diet alcoholic drinks. * Have what you like. * If people gotta slam it down to be social, let them * Cheat. Ask the bartender for diet soda and float a spoonful of liquor on top. Smells and looks like a drink to other people. The calories in hard liquor is based on the alcoholic content. A 1.5 oz shot of 80…
  • "It's impossible to count calories" - Gary Taubes.
  • Superfoods. Ok, maybe not the worst advice. Just the most obnoxious.
  • OP - Good for you for noticing it! That means you have been logging consistently and are really aware of your intake. It is a blip. Keep up the good logging!
