  • There have been many protein powders that I have tried that gave me horrible stomach cramps. Even some of the popular brands like Optimum Nutrition and EAS. Some of the ones that I found that don't and still taste good are MyoFusion, Muscle Milk, and one that tastes really great but is more expensive, Trutein (especially…
  • Coffee instead of water and chocolate protein powder is awesome.
  • I have had many, many different kinds over the years and by far the best tasting one I've had is Trutein, mostly the Cinnabun flavor. It's a little more pricey, so I usually go with Muscle Milk. Also liked Gaspari Nutrition's Myofusion.
  • Pretty good article by Lyle McDonald about whooshes. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html
  • Agree with above. Any sources of carbs are fine, especially when bulking. Just stay 200-300 calories over TDEE to minimize fat gain. Make a PB&J for dessert or something or even frozen strawberry bars or Skinny cow ice cream sandwiches.

  • Definitely the sweetener they use. I had the same problem with many different kinds of protein powders. Took a while to find some that didn't make me feel like I had a basketball in my stomach. Hurt for hours.
  • What's wrong with fats? (other than trans-fats) Dietary fat is essential in producing testosterone. 0.5 grams of healthy fat per pound of lean body weight is what is recommended, especially if you're bulking. Healthy T levels = GAINZ
  • Well, one calorie calculator said your maintenance was about 2,450 calories. Myfitnesspal should give you something similar. For a slow steady bulk, try and eat 300 calories or so over your maintenance (2750 ish) and see how your strength improves over a few weeks. If you are gaining too much fat lower it a little, not…
  • This is a good book that uses intermittent fasting principles. http://www.engineeringthealpha.com/
  • Skip the cheat days and just fit foods you enjoy into your macros.
  • It's 0.8g-1g per pound of lean body mass, not total weight. If you are around 6 foot, your LBM will probably be somewhere between 160-180ish.
  • Cottage cheese with some fruit in it?
  • Plateaus? No, but fat loss is not always linear. Good read by Lyle McDonald. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html
  • The best ones I have tried (and there's a lot of them) are Myofusion, Muscle Milk, and the best is probably Trutein (the cinnabun flavor is amazing) but it also the most expensive.
  • You're on vacation, enjoy yourself. Read this if you really think that 1 week of enjoying yourself will ruin your body. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=144179471
  • Working out sore is fine. Just know the difference between DOMS and an injury. Make sure to eat lots of protein to help recover faster.
  • It took 9 months to lose 100 lbs and slowed from there. (lost 150 in total) That was with weight lifting and cardio. I was averaging 3 lbs a week. At higher body fat %, it is ok to lose more per week than when you get to lower BF%.
  • I had a similar experience last year as I had a seizure (with no history of them) and they found a brain tumor. Had it removed and had to do radiation treatments all summer. For a few months afterwards, I was convinced that it was aspartame or sucralose that caused it, so I avoided them like the plague. But after really…
  • The "based on a 2000 calorie diet" is just so they can give percentages for sodium, vitamins and stuff. It doesn't change how many calories are in a serving. Ignore the percentages and just look at the nutritional info.
  • If you are anything like me, breakfast, especially carbohydrates for breakfast, make me hungrier all day long. If I eat breakfast, I am starving by 9am. If I skip it, I can go until dinner and feel fine. It has to do with cortisol levels. Read this if you are interested.…
  • I had brain surgery in April and radiation therapy for 6 weeks this summer. With the steroids they had me on and lack of activity for months, I gained back 65 pounds. I'm just now to the point that I feel "normal" and starting to go to the gym full time. I remember going mountain hiking 1 month after my radiation. Last…
  • Trutein Cinnabun is amazing. I make protein cheesecake out of it. For a cheaper powder, I enjoy the Muscle Milk Brownie batter.
  • I never eat breakfast. I find eating breakfast makes me hungrier all day. If I skip breakfast, I can go longer without eating and just have a big dinner and dessert. I like going to bed on a full stomach better anyway. Do whatever works best for you!
  • This^ As far as weight loss goes, a calorie is a calorie, but overall health and body composition is affected by the vitamin and minerals in the foods you eat.
  • Dietary fat is good for you. It helps regulate hormones and is essential for vitamin A,E,D and K absorption. It will also help you feel fuller longer than carbs, which is good, especially when dieting.
  • As long as you are roughly getting 0.8 grams of protein per pound of lean body mass and 0.45 grams of fat per total body weight, you can fill the rest of your calories with whatever you want. Fat, carbs or protein. Doesn't matter.
  • Interesting read. Definitely something to think about. I don't drink or smoke, never have, but was recently diagnosed with an atypical meningioma (brain tumor). I suppose it could be from pollution, fluorescent lighting, pesticides or something else, but I really do go to town on the "diet" stuff and splenda to save…
