I'm TOTALLY not biased AT ALL but Alaska

^^^ Also, on MFP, foods that *don't* have a star in front of them are taken from that database and are accurate.

Starvation mode is a very, very controversial topic on the forums, mostly because: - Different people have different definitions of what "starvation mode" is - We still don't fully understand all of the body's responses to changing caloric intake - Sometimes some form of "starvation mode" is blamed for a symptom that…

Your metabolism isn't ruined. It's probably still a good idea to increase your daily intake a little, though, as it can be difficult to get adequate nutrition when you're limited to 1200 calories. You may notice a slight initial gain, which is normal and temporary. (Also, adaptive thermogenesis will eventually occur if…

I'd do it for a Klondike bar.

No, supplements aren't necessary (unless you're deficient in something, I suppose).

Oh dear. No. No, no, no. Please do not do this.

As a recovered anorexic… This isn't likely to work. She needs professional help. Going grocery shopping with her, threatening her to "get better or else," etc. will not be productive; right now, she just isn't able to make decisions in the way that you or I would. But she's an adult and it doesn't seem that her life is in…

Doctor Who. A month could last, well, forever!

You're referring to John Walker's book, right? He's my favorite. In case anyone else is interested, his book is available from his website: http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/

Almond Joy, York mints, anything with black licorice.

I like Maranatha peanut butter. Okay, let's be honest, I like all the peanut butters.

how does anyone even hate NPH seriously how Anyway, I second Catelyn Stark, for the most part. Felt bad for her, still didn't like her. Same with Sansa. + Sarah Caulfield from Spooks made me want to punch things. Thankfully she didn't last long. + Betty Draper from Mad Men. + Anderson and Donovan from Sherlock, but you're…

Um. No. The nutritional quality of an individual piece of food doesn't really matter; the nutritional quality of your overall diet does. Special K does not have any magical, evil properties that will keep you "hungry and fat." Neither do frozen meals. If it fits within your calorie and macro/micronutrient goals, enjoy.

OP, you've already received some very good advice. Start weighing your food. You're probably overestimating your intake. In any case, what have you got to lose by breaking out the kitchen scale? Log daily. Seriously. I cannot overstate how important this is. Understand that your exercise calories are probably inflated.…

I think I just fell in love a little

OP, you may get better responses by posting this in one of the eating disorder recovery groups. To answer your question, no, Nutella does not have any special properties that will make you gain weight. Weight gain results from a caloric surplus, not from a certain amount of fats or sugars. Sure, it's not the most…

To be honest, ice cream > doughnuts any day of the week :-)

By "vegetables and lean proteins" I really meant "cram as much cottage cheese/vegetables/tofu/chicken/beans/whatever as possible into a bowl, and don't forget to hit the dessert bar on your way out. Unless it's pizza day, in which case, pizza." Ah, college cafeterias.

I've been in a position similar to yours, and it sucks. Sometimes you just have to turn up the music in your head and tune them out.

I don't have any pictures, but I'm 5'4", 117 pounds, too sedentary for my liking at the moment (the studying never ends)... and I'm still slowly losing weight while eating around 1600-1800 calories per day, sometimes more, but not less. I hit my macro/micronutrient goals, I structure my diet as much as possible, I eat…

Good advice.

Sure, the lap band isn't a magic fix. It does take a lot of work. Maybe your friend didn't fully realize that. However, I don't think she's going to be any more successful if you tell her that she doesn't have enough "motivation and commitment" to lose weight every time she eats a brownie. It's not going to help her make…

Vsauce did a video on this, actually. I'll post back when I find it. ETA: found it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD08CuUi_Ek (starts at 10:56) A 200-lb human in outer space would eventually become about 120 pounds of freeze-dried jerky, totaling 115,000 calories. So if we dehydrated and freeze-dried your body, you'd be…
