  • I have been a member at both. YMCA: My YMCA has a pool which is the biggest factor for me. They also have fitness classes that I can try out at my pleasure. Depending on the size of your YMCA you may not have access to as many machines or weight racks as you would like. A single adult membership in my area is $40/month.…
  • That is exactly what I was saying, that doing Keto - I was not in deficit because of the calorie dense high fat foods. By lowering fat and increasing protein it was much easier to get into deficit.
  • I did keto for a month and found that the high fat/calorie foods were not helping my loss at all even with almost zero net carbs. I changed it up and instead of doing high fat, I went just to general low carb (less than 20-30 net a day), moderate protein, moderate fat. This has been sooo much easier than trying to get…
  • Legit, the third picture down on the left in the scooby doo (?) tee.... I thought you were me, I even have that same headband. If you can get a crazy defined jaw there is hope for me after all!!
  • With his rugged looks and flannel shirt - he asked if I wanted to go on a hike. I said... it's 10pm. He said "yeah I understand, I have a awesome cabin up near the lake" I hesitated and excused myself to the bathroom. I snuck out under cover of shadows and never saw him again.... until.... I saw that cabin on the news. aww…
  • I am having a hard time getting to sleep early enough to wake up at 5:30 to go to the pool. Time change has messed me up! I should love it, dark early so I can go to bed earlier.. but nope my body is still stuck in DST.
  • Unfortunately, there's no on/off switch to temptation - and for people like me it is easier not to allow the temptation to be around me than to allow a small portion and then stop myself. Every holiday, I would snack on my kid's candy, bake cakes and devour starch heavy veggies. I always felt bad about it after, physically…
  • I am still pre-surgery, posted earlier in the thread... One of the things about the requirement to lose weight and modify behaviors is to show that I can actually do it for post surgical compliance - for my own success. I changed my eating habits six months before surgery was on the table and I lost about 18lbs but I tend…
  • I am in the process of being approved for surgery. I have lost weight on my own (5-70lbs at various attempts) but gained it all back - Ive been overweight since I was a child. My BMI is at the low end of the surgery minimum but I have 100lbs I could stand to lose. I have weight related conditions that make me hurt every…
  • I hate that I don't have my own pool so I didn't have to wait for lanes at the gym. Also - I hate people pointing out that I lost weight.. like several times in a month. Yeah I am trying to lose weight, I don't need the outside "encouragement" which actually makes me feel awkward trying to acknowledge.
  • MFP does total carbs, however you can change your macro columns through the website (I don't have premium so this is a free feature). Currently I have total carbs right next to fiber so I can just mentally subtract the fiber out to know my net carbs for the meal/day.
  • I'm needing to lose 100 also! I'm about 15lbs in right now - you can add me. I tend to eat low carb/high protein, open food diary for friends. Right now for workouts I am swimming 4 days a week and yoga 1-2. Good luck to you!
  • Your friend may be experiencing self confidence and freedom to do things she may have never been able to do before. Shopping in a "normal" store? Fitting in amusement park rides? Playing with her kids without getting winded? Her journey is purely about her and your journey is purely about you. It's not WRONG to say you are…
  • If you can live without carbs that are in the form of refined sugars, white bread and potatoes (among other items).. then why not try it? I love meat, cheese, non starchy veggies and fats from things like avocados, coconut oil and certain fish. I have noticed that my skin looks better, I have WAY less gas and bloating, I…
  • One thing that helped me was downloading a "countdown" app, it can count the days since an event. It was nice to watch as my days, hours and minutes continually count upwards as a reminder that - I've gotten this far, I can keep it up. Stay Tough!
  • No judgement man, I used to love this as a kid. The grittiness, the condensed chocolate flavor that dissolves in your mouth it's like eating brownie batter (if you close your eyes hard enough).
  • Shirataki noodles! Skinny pasta brand has several "shapes". I've tried the rice and ramen shapes, they don't have the traditional "smell" most brands of shirataki do. Kind of pricey, $20 for six bags and I can eat one bag myself at dinner. 20 calories a bag, 0 net carbs and I can put it with any meat.
  • Day 24 here. I am no good at moderation. It is all too enticing to not indulge sometimes.. then the thought of 'lets keep this party going!" ends up with me being sick. I have started eating keto for the past two months and although I can drink liquor on keto if I overdo it my calorie allotment is blown for the night. It…
  • The best way to do this is change your macros to show Carbs and then Fiber.. You will have to mentally subtract the fiber from the total carbs but it is the easiest way to do it on the non-premium version.

  • I am a perfectionist at work. I work hard, get it done right and am recognized for it. When I am at home I am so damn lazy. I hate doing dishes, my laundry is perpetually in "clean" and "dirty" piles, and as a part of my weight problem, I am too over the day to exercise. I'm so exhausted from giving my mental and emotional…
  • Keto, day 33. Lost 5lbs total so far. I am great at tracking breakfast and lunch but cooking when I get home.. I usually just mentally calculate the grams in my head at dinner time, I will have only had 15-20g net carbs so staying under 10g for dinner is usually very easy. I didn't know about Gluconeogenesis until last…
  • ground turkey, eggs, chicken, bacon, pork chops, most fish, avocados, most cheeses, olive oil (though I prefer grapeseed oil because it does not affect the taste of what I'm cooking), most dressings if you moderate the use. Its really not that hard. I just re-started keto after a looooong time away from it, and I don't…

  • 2 tbs of sugar free liquid creamer, which is 30 calories and does have artificial sweetener. I just started IF, so I'm no expert but I need that cuppa joe at work.
  • "I love running, you should try running. I'm doing the Marine Corps marathon this year, sign up with me" 1. yes I have tried running, even when I was smaller than I am now I cant run a 5k straight. 2. Marathon of hot military guys? While my loins say yes, my arthritic foot and fat booty says NOOOOO.
  • Personal experience, don't do it. caveat: I guess it depends on the type of treadmill. I was walking on a home treadmill that has the plastic covering across the back two corners where the belt goes over rollers. I stepped too far back and my foot got caught on that plastic and ripped a 2 inch square of flesh off the ball…
  • I lost a good 70lbs in 2011-12 and I remember my {male} boss actually saying "Hey skinny! when was the last time someone called you that". I said "never". I was also still technically overweight because even after losing 70lbs, I was still at 170.. no one had ever seen me that small and it got annoying that people thought…
  • I was on the clinical trial for Saxenda before it was approved by the FDA. It is a daily injection that I took for about 13 months. It was an appetite suppressant and during the year I was on the program I lost 70lbs, I was also exercising and had monthly check ins with a nurse and a nutritionist during the trial so there…
  • quit drinking December 11th and there are events (like a concert last weekend, or st. patrick's day celebrations) that I feel would be more "fun" with alcohol - but I know that I over indulge when I do drink. Not helpful for weight loss or my life in general.
