  • It's a marvelous feeling! Good for you!!
  • Opt for only whole wheat bread and pastas, add lots of different veggies to your meals. Eat a small handful of nuts. Add cooked legumes or beans to salads and soups. Chia seeds are fabulous sprinkled on yogurt! Eat fresh fruits when you want sweets. Seriously, fiber is easy to add to your diet and the best thing is it…
  • Doing a pull up is my #1 fitness goal. Getting closer, but still not there. Wow...42 push ups is AWESOME!
  • I had two fitness goals last year and both were equally important to me. #1 Last August I joined a team of swimmers who swim across and back the Willamette River. Mostly it was to overcome my fear of open-water swimming. But it was also an endurance swim for me as well. #2 In September I hiked 15 miles with my youngest…
  • Excellent accomplishment!
  • I don't use a trending app, but if my daily weight is nudging near my upper limit number (154) for three days in a row- it's deficit eating time for a couple of weeks. I opted for the three days in a row option because my weight can fluctuate by 2-3 pounds just from higher sodium and mega carbs eating: thus, it could just…
  • Wonderful accomplishment! I gave up highly processed and simple carbs and added sugar about a year ago...it had a tremendous effect on my weight loss journey here. On rare occasions I'll have a sweet treat, but for the long haul-this is my way of eating. Congratulations!
  • Yum...and that's a BIG serving to fill you up as well. An aside...I read this awhile back and I now always add an egg or eggwhites to my oatmeal. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/09/protein-oatmeal-add-an-egg-yall_n_6288246.html
  • Definitely thinking of it. But going to wait at least one more year. I lost my weight pretty slowly- it took three years. The loose skin really showed up with the last 40 pounds gone. Not only the stomach area, but my chest...oh jeeze, lol! Oh, and the ever so lovely 'bat wings'. But no matter what, I LOVE how I feel being…
  • Congratulations! I did the same in December, and boy it's a wonderful feeling. Excellent accomplishment, well done!
  • Awesome accomplishment, congratulations. Isn't it amazing how good feeling healthy and fit is? Doing active things that weren't possible before; such a delight! Good for you, I'm so happy for you.
  • Welcome! Today is actually my 3 year anniversary of being part of MFP. I've lost 146 pounds and have been in maintenance since December. Can't find a better app or people to encourage you along the way. Sounds like you've got the right attitude and are ready for a real lifestyle change. Good for you!
  • I would suggest like the others have that you talk to a professional. We can certainly develop very unhealthy relationships with our foods and fitness. I think too, that those who've succeeding in losing the weight can be prone to have these problems; we know we will forever have to be aware of and monitor what we're…
  • You're doing it right...using the evidence in front of you! You weigh two pounds less, yeah! But, even if the scale hadn't moved-you still need to have a good mindset that continuing your healthier lifestyle is STILL a good thing! Many of us who are long time losers (hahaha!) come up against weeks long plateaus- talk about…
  • I'd definitely use the MFP calculations to begin with. When I started here almost 3 yrs ago, I stuck with the numbers MFP allotted and I consistently lost weight. After the first 100 pounds were gone though, I've used several different methods of calculating, trying to find the best one for me. MFP was just too generous…
  • Congratulations and welcome! The combination of MFP an Fitbit have played a huge part in my losing 145+ pounds over the last three years. It may seem overwhelming at first to log all your food and exercise, but truly...it is worth the time. It becomes so much easier within a month's time and then it becomes a habit. I…
  • Congratulations! You give some great advise to those just starting out. Go slow, change your habits to new healthier ones, and 'Just do it'. And keep on doing it. The change has to come from inside with a strong desire to change one's lifestyle-forever. I'm so very happy for you! Feeling fit and healthy is just awesome!…
  • Congratulations on the weight loss, that's fabulous! Now would be a good time to start counting calories so you can see exactly what your body requires to either maintain or continue losing. With your much lighter body weight you require much less per day. Exercise will definitely help rev up your metabolism. If I were…
  • Like one poster above stated...it's more likely your stroke/kick is too fast or inefficient. I've seen super fit, but non regular swimmers gasping for breath after one lap. Exactly what I'm like if I try to run! Perhaps use a kickboard for a length or two of the pool to use only your legs, then a couple laps using only…
  • That's the right attitude! Well done on the weight loss. Sometimes it takes a health scare to motivate change. 3 yrs ago I was turned down by a surgeon for knee replacement-in the kindest words possible I was told I was too fat, I smoked, and had high blood pressure- so not a good candidate. It was exactly what I need to…
  • Hmmmm, seems the count on your eggs is way off. One large egg has about 70mg. The correct number for 2 cups of eggs (10?) should be 700mg.
  • Oh man...sounds like dinner to me! Protein, protein, and more protein and it sounds great too. Thanks!
  • Oh yes! For those who don't eat beef- try Sloppy Lentils, same savory/sweet flavor and great texture. I actually prefer the lentils to ground beef. Yum! http://jamieoliver.com/news-and-features/features/vegan-sloppy-joe/
  • It's more about your personal satiety than the macros themselves. Being aware of what makes you feel the best is a good step to finding healthy lifetime eating plan that you will stick to. Some people swear by oatmeal for breakfast and how it 'sticks to their ribs' and keeps them full. Holy cow, if I eat just oatmeal for…
  • Donuts. That is the ONLY food item that will never pass my lips again. Crazy? One of my lowest points in my morbidly obese life was once eating a freaking dozen Krispie Kreme donuts...in one hour. And, I'm not what one would have described as a typical binge eater. I always just ate what I wanted and as much as I wanted-…
  • Name: Shelley Starting weight: 296.5 pounds Total weight lost: 147 pounds Time it took to lose: 999 days How long in maintenance: 63 days Maintenance range: 149-154 January average was 151.02 2/6/17 151.9 Success/Struggle for the week: Did great on my fitness last week. Missed one day of goal on Fitbit, but nailed the…
  • Boredom for me! When I'm really busy doing anything I never think about food or eating. I have to remind myself to take time to eat if I'm involved in something. But the minute I'm just sitting around, oh man- eating becomes foremost in my mind. Even more so since I quit smoking 2.5 yrs ago. Before I'd grab a smoke, now I…
  • I do not, but one of my MFP friends has one and loved it. I've often entertained the idea of using one when doing my laps, but I already have the goggles, cap, ear plugs, fins, water gloves....I don't think I can deal with any more accouterments. ;-) A couple of people at my pool use them, but not doing laps- they do water…
  • You deserve better. It's as simple as that. Keep up with your weight loss (if that's what makes YOU happy because YOU want it) and perhaps some therapy to boost your self esteem. Truly- you are worth it. <3
  • It takes me about 2-3 days to drop the water weight. I normally keep my carbs at 25% of my daily calories. A weekend of higher carbs + higher sodium can put me up 4 pounds from water retention on Monday weigh in. Usually by Wed or Thursday I'm back at my maintenance weight if I eat my norm and drink a bit extra water.
