Here's a parable for those who have had "friends" become very negative as you've succeeded in your weight and fitness goals. THE STORY OF THE CRAB BUCKET One time a man was walking along the beach and say another man fishing in the surf with a bait bucket beside him. As he drew closer, he saw that the bait bucket had no…

I am proud to say I passed my test for Shodan rank (1st black) in Shotokan on Saturday. Still hard to believe it. The black belt class studies Shorin Ryu, so I'm having to change everything I've learned. It keeps you humble. :D

Shotokan karate, testing for black belt this Saturday!
-
That sounds well-reasoned to me, and is a good number to work from. It's not too many calories for weight loss. Good luck!

I'm studying Shotokan karate right now, and preparing to test for my black belt. We cover defenses, one-step sparring techniques, and arnis in addition to Shotokan katas, blocks, kicks and strikes.

I hope your test goes well! Be confident in what you've learned. I'm on only my 3rd day of candidate training before the black belt test in about 5 weeks. I've already discovered all kinds of things I've been doing wrong with my stances, punches, and kicks, and how much fun it is to hold a really deep horse stance for long…

Sounds delicious, thanks!

What a great accomplishment! :flowerforyou:

Every day in the morning. I record it on a site that figures a moving weighted average to get a more real value out of the fluctuations. It helps me keep track, and to see what the current rate of loss is. If the curve is flattening out over a week, then I need to evaluate what I'm doing. I like graphs because I can see…

Your weight loss shows a lot! Don't be discouraged. Have you gotten any new clothes? Thriftstores are great, or your old stuff in the back of the closet that hasn't fit in awhile. Enjoy a special meal out, then be ready to get back into it. Focus on one day at a time. I know it's tough, but your efforts are paying off. The…

You can change your protein, fat, and carbohydrate settings on MFP. From the My Home tab, click on the Goals tab. Change your goals manually to reflect the amounts of each nutrient. I raised fiber, protein, and sugar. I lowered carbs overall. The sugar setting was so low, having a cup of cherries would put me over. The…

I like this idea. I think your brother might be jealous of your progress. Make a public contest of it, and either he'll be found out, or he'll genuinely start trying to lose that weight. Either way you win.

I get Muscle Milk Whey in chocolate and vanilla at Costco. I recently got some Syntrax nectar whey and like it. They have fruit flavors like grapefruit or fuzzy navel. I got a sample pack from netrition.com so I can try different flavors. So far so good. They dissolve pretty well in water. I also got the Syntrax in…

I agree with plantain chips being a great substitute, or sweet potatoes if those are allowed.

Welcome! I think success depends primarily on mental attitude. My belief is that we are changing how we are going to eat pretty much forever, but that there's no such thing as a forbidden food (allergies notwithstanding). It's fine to have a cookie, a piece of your birthday cake, or Aunt Katie's spaghetti and meatballs. So…

From your ticker it looks like you're doing great so far! We're all in this for the long haul, so just make a progress post on "Success Stories" or "Motivation" and lots of us will chime in. Encouragement isn't hard to find around here, which is why I spend time on the forums. It's so hard to talk about a weight loss…

Congratulations on reaching One-derland, and thank you for your service.

I think the comment referred to how hard it is to both lose fat and build muscle at the same time. Pick one and make it your priority, then work on the other. Cut and bulk cycles.

Definitely. Science fiction, fantasy, conventions, was in the SCA for over 20 years before being part of a Worldcon. Still raiding in WoW, and playing D&D this weekend. I think I qualify. :)

Congratulations on doing souch a great job and making your dad's jaw drop! Great story!

Being flexible in what you eat is better in the long run. There are no forbidden foods! Just some high calorie foods you should eat in moderation, like ice cream. What you do 90% of the time will determine your results, not that last 10%. So don't worry about an occasional treat. If you think you can NEVER have a food you…

I count net carbs, not total. When I did true low carb 12 years ago, I followed Protein Power, and limited myself to about 30g a day net. Now I'm trying to stay a bit more balanced between protein, fat, and carbs and eat closer to 60-90g of carbs per day. I'm trying to get my weight moving after a long stall, so my…

Some people respond better to low fat high carb diets, while others do better with low carb. I had heartburn all the time on a Weight Watchers diet many years ago (the plan has changed a lot since then). The version I did was very low fat and high carb. I was constantly hungry, felt lousy, and lost very little weight. My…

Fantastic job on becoming healthier! Best NSV possible!

Juniors vs Misses departments are more a matter of style than size nowadays. If you like jeans cut lower at the waist and with more embellishments, you'll find those in Juniors. The sizes are odd numbers, and Misses are even, but both cover pretty much the same range of sizes.. Theres a girl's department for children. I've…

Congrats on your smaller size! I lost 10 inches from my hips and had to replace all my underwear. Fun, isn't it? :)
-
Great weight loss, and congrats on the smaller size! Keep on rockin' it out! :flowerforyou:

Great curves! You look amazing!

I weigh once daily in the mornings and record it on physicsdiet.com. They have software that calculates a weighted moving average of all your daily weights. It smooths out the spikes up and down, and shows graphs of what your weight is averaging over time. It is motivational for me, because even a spike upwards will have…

I want to get to 150 or less, which is a loss of 13 lbs from now. I want to be able to do 25 real pushups. The rest of what may happen I will find out on the 15th at the black belt pre-test. Either I will be do well enough to join the candidates class for the October black belt test, or I will have to wait to try again in…
