  • It looks like they softened her arms and her face to add more curves, made her waist smaller and left her teeny tiny legs, reinforcing the desirability of less than realistic proportions. They also seem to have toned down the slightly bony look to Katherine's chest, again projecting that it's possible to be that skinny…
  • This. You've been eating below your BMR, so some transient water weight gain is pretty much inevitable. I'd give it 3 weeks at least before even weighing again. Good Luck :)
  • I just wanted to add that I saw a similar stall in losing inches (even gained in my thighs and waist) when I upped the weight I was lifting (FWIW we're pretty much the same size- I'm 5'5 and 129 lbs with a small frame). The inches pretty much fell off after a recovery week, so I think that I was holding on to a lot of…
  • The only thing that has really helped my BF% is lifting heavier weights and eating at a deficit but a small one. I also tend to be skinny fat, and, like some others people in the same situation, I tend to have a pretty fast metabolism that I, if left to my own devices, manage to out eat. When I ate at a larger calorie…
  • We're the same height, and I started at 142. I probably work out 4-6 days per week and eat over 1200 calories, probably 1400-1800 and have cheat days. I'm down 13 total lbs so far (to 129). I'd definitely think you's need to more, so I hope upping your calories eventually works for you. I lost the most scale lbs by doing…
  • I didn't read the study, because I don't have access from home without buying it, but from the abstract, I'd say not to scream about the sky falling. It's a correlation study, and there doesn't seem to be much about other dietary factors. Because eggs were demonized for so long, a lot of older people who regularly ate 3 or…
  • I just made banana bread with seriously over ripe bananas, leaving out almost all of the the sugar and substituting a mix of oatmeal and almonds turned into meal in the food processor for white flour. It was moist and amazing and filling.
  • I got good results with Slim Series, especially in my legs, but I never managed to complete a SI6 rotation, so I can't speak specifically to SI6 results. I tried, but I cannot do the same video everyday.
  • I went from around 31% to 25.6% (by calipers averaged with 2 circumference formulas- all have pretty close results). For the circumference formulas, they are also way off for me if they use the natural waist, because I have a small waist. I tend toward getting "skinny fat". At 5'5 141 lbs I wasn't overweight, but I was…
  • I did a home adaption of Jamie Eason's Live Fit for Phase 1 and Phase 2. I didn't do Phase 3 because I don't have an event to prep for and wanted to continue with strength building instead of dropping weight fast. I liked the first 2 phases, and I like my strength increases. I also dropped significant body fat without…
  • It depends on the video. Some of them are cardio, some are circuit, some are intervals. Some of them are slow enough that you can lift pretty heavy and others not so much. They, at one time, had their own classification system. Tortoise workouts had 75% weights/25% aerobics; Hares: 75% aerobics/25% weights; Classics:…
  • I really like http://blogilates.com/ Cassey is fun to watch, and she has some great workouts. Unless you've done Pilates before, however, start with her beginner workouts, because she doesn't really explain form for the basic exercises in her other videos. She has a ton of free videos, and many are short, so you can string…
  • I think you're doing great :). I had to work up to about what you're lifting over months and I couldn't curl 10 kg for more than a rep or two I don't think. Also, if you're squatting with 33 lb dumbbells in each hand, you're squatting with 66 total lbs of weight.
  • I like Crunch Candlelight Yoga for a stretchy/ relaxing workout that makes me feel great.
  • Also try Pop Pilates on YouTube. Cassie has some great workouts that are tough. Make sure to run through the beginner ones a few times, though, since she isn't always great about carefully explaining form in the advanced workouts.
  • At first? My sister has a baby 4 months ago and was thinner than me, a fact I found appalling. Now, just generally to look good and be happier about my body.
  • This. The glycogen stored in your liver is bound to water. When you start eating at a deficit, your body uses the glycofen and dumps the water in the process. This effect is especially exaggerated with low carb diets, but t happens with low cal diets in general.
  • I know a lot of people swear by it, but I can't stand the taste. My sister loves it and made me try it. I tried some in unsweetened yogurt and some in a recipe. I had to throw both out because I couldn't choke them down. I actually don't even think it's especially sweet, just kind of metallic.
  • This topic interested me. It seems alarmist, but I was really curious about the data and reasoning. Unfortunately, I couldn't really get through the book excerpt because it screams for a good copy editor. "Pidgeon-holed" alone was enough to turn me off. There were also fragments and weird punctuation in the little bit that…
  • I'm 5'5 and 129-130. I started at 142 and would like to lose another 9ish pounds. Mainly I want to lose about 5% of my body fat. Fell free to add me if you like :)
  • Without resistance training, you aren't going to get that lean look. A better measure of success than scale weight, especially now that you are at goal, is body fat percentage. If you are thin but with a relatively high body fat, you will look flabbier than someone at a heavier weight but with more muscle and less fat. I…
  • I've been adapting it to do at home and to fit my schedule, and I really like it a lot. I'm halfway through month 2, and I have to admit to taking longer than a week to finish each week because by this point it's 6 days per week, and that's not always feasible. I'm still getting good results, though.
  • Ellen Barrett might be a good choice, especially if you like a little mind body fitness and a soothing, upbeat manner. I like Bikini Ready Fast, Fat Burning Fusion and Slim Sculpt. I also really like Leslie Sansone. I know a lot of people think it's easy, but her newer "boosted" workouts are great and easy to fit in. I've…
  • It's funny, because, for me, that one is closest to what I get with calipers and visual estimation. The military one, for me, is ridiculously low, because I have a small waist relative to my other measurements. Body shape seems to play a pretty role in which one works best. I usually average my calipers plus 2 online…
  • What are you looking for? It's hard to recommend something without knowing what your goals are or what level you are. You can have a look at videofitness.com for a lot of reviews and search the forums. There is info about pretty much every workout DVD somewhere on that site.
  • Did you use your natural waist for the calculations? Some of the other calculators seem to want a measurement around the navel. The military one wants women to use the natural waist (Minimal abdominal circumference).
  • This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking but put better. IMO to call her "overweight" or even "over fat" , objective terms, when you mean "not ideal," a subjective judgement serves to perpetuate body image stereotypes that are damaging.
  • It seems to ramp up my anxiety by a lot if I have too much. I also get nauseous and light headed. If I eliminate it entirely, everything goes back to normal. If I have it again, the problems come back. I don't seem to be able to tolerate occasional small amounts without noticeable distress, but I've had such weird issues…
  • I also would have taken it as a general comment or even something she meant to apply to herself in self deprecating humor.
  • The 33g recommendation is based on an old proposed recommendation for "added sugar" a nebulous category that MFP doesn't track, making the number useless for most people. Basically if you stick to your carb level and get the majority of those from veggies and a moderate amount of fruit, your sugar will fall in line. That…
