As a runner I have been using HRM's for some years, both chest straps and recently a Mio Link wrist strap. I bought the Charge HR because of it's ability to monitor resting heart rate 24/7. I must say that like many other athletes I have found the Charge HR to be wholly inaccurate for monitoring heart rates when…

Normal. Absolutely.

Runkeeper is a great app which I use every day. You might also consider Digifit or Garmin Fit if you use a Garmin fitness device.

Although I now use a Garmin 910TX before then I had a Polar FT7, inexpensive, reliable and easy to use. It's a watch and chest strap that shows your current heart rate, calories burned, maximum heart rate etc and can be uploaded (via an add on) to the Polar website.

It does sound good...

As others have said, there is never going to be a completely accurate way of determining a base figure for your personal calorie burn before exercise. It will vary quite a bit from day to day. It's not an exact science. I use a Fitbit Flex (and before that a Fitbit Ultra) and that is useful just as a general indicator of…

I had the same problem and it is a drag because it can last for ages. You may have to just try running or swimming until it rights itself. Time is the best medicine and don't try and push the arm until it is better or you will regret it.

Just have a drink, go along and have some fun and make sure your husband knows what a lucky guy he is. If you go and don't have fun then make sure your husband knows this and don;t go again.

An HRM is probably the least inaccurate way of measuring your personal calorie burn. I currently use an Garmin 910 with HRM and before that a Polar FT7, which is inexpensive and pretty reliable. I also have a Fitbit Flex, which is good fun and an effective motivator but not much use as a guide to calorie burn.

I use an HRM and find this gives probably the closest to an accurate rate of calorie burn since it is programmed to the user's weight, height, etc and should be equally accurate no matter what form of exercise is done. Of course even an HRM can never be fully accurate. Finding a good HRM is no easy matter as I have tried…

I have one and it is great. The only real issue with it is that it is not really practical to use it as a day to day watch. It can be set up to display the time of day as a custom screen but this can be awkward and of course the battery life is not really suitable for this. It has a vast range of features but if you are…

Request sent here and on Garmin Connect.

As a new Garmin user I have taken the liberty of sending friend requests to you both on Garmin Connect!

You look great, so go for it!

The Fitbit is a great little device and I would be lost without mine. Personally, I have not found the integration with MFP to be that good and so no longer bother with it, although many other people have no problems with it. The Fitbit website when used in conjunction with MFP is very useful also. The Fitbit is great…

I use the Fitbit Ultra (now replaced by the Fitbit One) which is a good motivator and keeps you on the move. I also use a Heart Rate Monitor to track my individual workout sessions and to give a more accurate estimation of how many calories I have burned. Currently I am using the Polar FT7 HRM watch, previously I used the…

Carol Vorderman of course!

Thanks for the low down. I was thinking of getting one to replace my Fitbit Ultra but now I will hang on until the FitBit One works with my Nexus 4 phone.

Hey, I've been a veggie since 1982 and still loving it!

HRM's are prone to inaccuracies as many variables are involved. Try performing the same exercise routine over a few days and note the HRM readings for each day to make sure they are consistent. As has been suggested check back over each day's log to look for sustained low or high readings that may point to a connection…

The first one is the best.

I will.. just try and stop me!

You could try using an app like Digifit with a HRM to more closely monitor your exercise as well as keeping a detailed list of your food intake here on MFP. Just keep on with it and good luck. You will find friends here with the same problem that can offer help and encouragement.

I have a Fitbit and find it great for general motivation and encouragement. I also have an HRM which I use to track individual sessions as the Fitbit is not a reliable guide to actual calorie burn. I would certainly suggest anyone who wishes to lose weight add it to their toolkit.!

I have a Fitbut Ultra and a Polar Bluetooth 2 HRM, previously I have had Scosche MyTrek and Scosche Rhythm HRM. HRM's will always give a more accurate calorie burn estimation than the Fitbit for a particular exercise session but they can be flaky in use and can be a pain to put on, calibrate and install. The Fitbit clips…
