Welcome. Congratulations on setting your first goal, getting your journey started

Welcome. I joined MFP for the exact same reason. Ex-smoker, who gained 15-20 pounds. I dropped a few pounds before I joined. I worked very hard and got within 5-7 pounds to my goal. Then I quit logging for about 6 months and gained a big portion back. I've then started back and have logged every day since. My diet is my…

Thanks for the "skinny fat" lesson. And you are correct, I'm NOT skinny fat like I thought
-
Like someone earlier said, I've learned a lot from reading this whole thread. I love it. I came across someone who said they were skinny fat and you advised them to do a lean bulk. I've been wondering if that is something I need to do. I would consider myself as skinny fat, since I don't weigh very much but I have what I…

I'm 4' 11". One thing you must be strict about is accuracy in logging calories. Short people don't need very many calories to begin with, so we don't have much room for over-indulging unfortunately. Even if you allow yourself a cheat day, try not to go over your goal by too many calories else you'll undo your weekly…

I avoid fried foods, high fat foods, & sodas. Before upping my activity level my acid reflux was controlled (with medication). Also, I have what is called "silent reflux". I didn't have typical heartburn. Just throat problems from the acid reflux. Now, I'm experiencing heartburn throughout the day and feel certain it's the…

Thank you

I agree with everyone else...awesome results! You have a very nice approach and attitude to answering all these questions. I like how you've handled all of them (including the bad ones) as they really define the kind of person you are. I would be interested in knowing what your guess would be for daily calories for petite…

It worked for me. I'm not much of a "breakfast" eater. Never have been. So omitting a meal wasn't hard for me. I've went as long as 24 hours between meals. One positive outcome for me for doing that was my stomach shrank so it didn't take eating very much to make me feel full the next time I ate. :-)

At your age, your metabolism is going to burn off many of the calories you eat - no matter how inactive you are. That will change with time. I am 4'11" and I will gain weight if I eat 1300 calories a day. I'm fairly active. But I'm also 54 years old. I say enjoy it while you can ;-)

I do best running on an empty stomach in the mornings. If you must have something, carbs are better for fueling a good run.

I'm not from Austin but have a MFP who is, busywaterbending. Look her up on myfitnesspal. There's lots of fun, cool things to do around Austin. I had a work-related class in Spicewood, TX. ( northwest of Austin) there's 's a wonderful restaurant there called Opie's Barbeque. You gotta try it. Absolutely BEST brisket I've…

That gives me a "good push" in the right direction. :-)

You have done a fantastic job! You definitely have been disciplined and have seriously applied effort and dedication to reach your goals. Congratulations on your success. You've managed to do what millions struggle to achieve. You have a wonderful story. It's very inspiring. And it's very commendable of you to change the…

I can't stand to step where I can't see what my feet will touch (murky water, down into a dark cave, walking in total darkness, etc). Absolutely can't stand to see cabinet doors or closet doors left opened. You're suppose to close them, people..or you wouldn't need a door there to begin with... Just saying. I correct…

Great thread. I agree with everyone's advice. It's not so much as WHAT you eat as it is HOW MUCH you eat. It's too many calories that makes your body store them as fat. Doesn't matter if those calories come from junk food or so-called clean food. Too many calories from either group is still TOO MANY CALORIES.

Hahaha. Great writing! You definitely have a hidden talent for storytelling! I feel like I had the experience "myself" after reading this. I agree with the others...hilarious! Sounds like you were saved from catching something bad in there.

The scale will NEVER reward you when you NEED it. That always happens as a surprise! I'm in the same boat as you! Trying to start over. Feel free to add me!

You seem to do well with life guarding. I'm sure you just haven't found other activities. There ARE activities to do that are "enjoyable" and considered as exercise. Take hiking for instance. You can set your own pace...hike where you want....when you want...and how long you hike is also up to you. Maybe playing ball would…

Thank you! Very helpful!

I'm starting over, too. Feel free to add me! Anyone else too. :-)

I do 1200 a day. Feel free to add me. I have my diary closed right now though to help me to be honest in my logging. :-)

I am in the same boat :-( I did really well up until may/June this year when I went back to work after being unemployed for two & half years. Now I'm starting over after gaining back nearly all the weight I lost. Feel free to add me, anyone

Sounds like you're rallying a great group of ladies for support on here. That should definitely help. I don't have alot of success with weight loss. So you may not view my opinion as credible as some others. However, your statement, "through a very bad emotional trauma" is what caught my attention more than anything. I…

Yeah...if you figure it out, be sure to share your advice! Like you (somewhat) I've been gaining and losing the same few pounds for MONTHS!!!! I know that's probably because I'm basically satisfied with my intake level and my output level. I can up my output level with more activity, but it usually causes enormous cravings…

It really comes down to calories in vs. calories out. You'd be surprised at how much you take in when you don't log.
